Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I hate that stupid o-ring. Bad design imho, rips every time.
Thwarted by a battery eh? Geez. MAP has a lightweight unit you should try out: http://www.maperformance.com/tomioka...i-tr-b600.html It hits 20psi in a nice spot but torque is still pretty low and slowly climbs through the pull, that's crazy. My car (and yours on ef4 probably) made ~400wtq (dynojet) at 4500rpm so this setup is a good 100wtq below that there....maybe with some tuning it'll come back, but I think that's where the really big snail is obviously showing itself...the power up top is gonna be hella! Will be curious to see how you like it on the street at this power level and then you know, what breaks when you start running some more boost :) |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I am going with the odyessey pc925 i think, putting some weight back on but a better/stronger battery with more reserve.
I am not sure about the down low yet, keep in mine pull wasn't started til after 3500 rpms and it got up in there in 1000rpms. We couldn't get into down low very well with the fueling problems down there. I think it will be better with more boost and some actual mivec and tuning etc. This is still very preliminary :) It feels like it hits hard down low still. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Amazing awesome how early the power comes on. Can't wait for 35psi pulls.

Just bought a new boost gague to match my AEM wideband. Going to install that this weekend when I move all my gauges up top to my new gauge pod. Also ordered the PC925 battery, hopefully its here friday or monday at the latest. The AMS battery is a Genesis 16EP, which is for snow mobiles or something. So its way undersized, basically just for drag racing etc. I think I made the right choice moving up a bit, more weight but worth not struggling to start if it works. Going to head over the knoxville's tonight for install on his G8 and hopefully some tuning on my end too if Jon is available and my car starts. |

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ynodayRuns.jpg It looks like I hit 400wtq on the EF4 at around 4200rpms on the last setup. but i also started that pull 600rpms sooner. I think I will loose a bit down low but I think with MIVEC tuning and some timing that it won't be too bad. This kit so far looks impressive, can't wait to get more results. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Jonny boy was busy bee tonight, no tuning.
Tried again for a spool graph, still breaking up from lean ness I think. Here is my try...if I started too low it wouldn't give me a full clean run. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...psd045887a.jpg Here is starting higher, revving out :) Still wastegate. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps4cc588a5.jpg Seriously can't wait to get this bitch rolling. Feels nasty up top. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I haven't seen the SD stuff for the X, but the VE has got to be way out of whack around 4000rpm. Keep going, don't blow it up. You'll get it.
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Nice, going for some power I see.
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Full boost at 4100 isn't bad at all. Looks promising and can't wait to see it running good!

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Well, keep in mind, very early stages of tuning, sorting out bunches of stuff. This wasn't on a flat road really either, uphill a tiny bit, but i wanted to show spool. We are fighting some surge too right now, mivec adjustment coming.
But the turbo hits really hard, spools in less than 1000rpms. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps3bfeaddb.jpg Sad news tonight... http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps5af62d44.jpg tactrix broke :( Sending to Colby to fix tomorrow, going to try and borrow one in the mean time, but might delay tuning some. The car is beastly now. Destroyed a modded cobalt SS...he pulled up on my while logging and the car was feeling good so i ran him, but bus lengths on him, 2-3-4 run. The car broke my 275's loose from 2nd to 3rd, traction control kicked in. Anyway, spool is looking good and we are working on getting load down to where we want it so I can run higher boost later. To be continued.... Scheides or anyone, can I borrow a tactrix 2.0? :) |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
double post somehow.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Tehehodi STILL has mine. Make him give it to you LOL

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Text him for me, I need one this weekend to log/tune with. Wanna get this bitch rolling!

Seems to be a hot topic that is all, don't get upset.
It's your car, pick whoever you want to tune it. As long as you are happy you could have a dude india tune as far as I'm concerned. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
You going to be put tuning Saturday?

Jon's schedule works awesome for me as well. I do hate not having a local person for helping troubleshoot but that has just made me do more stuff myself which I have learned a lot about. I am not using him because I have problems with anyone local, its merely a convenience thing and the fact he has a lot of tables in ECUflash most people don't have. (Jon and Tephra are best buddies, for those who don't know Tephra basically develops all the tuning software for the X, so if Jon has issues he gets direct Tephra support and they find new table definitions and all that fun stuff) I don't think etuning is really the "new hotness" if you ask me, but for some people it makes sense. I dunno, working out well for me so far and the amount I would have to pay Shane/Ron to tune my car would be in the $1000's right now with the hours spent on this thing lol. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I borrowed Scheides' tactrix, so did some stuff over the weekend. Didn't have a ton of time to work on it though.
Found a big issue though and why my shit went stupid lean at idle, thanks Aaron for the good luck charm at the evo mod day :) http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps902d44d9.jpg Good old DSM style fix here (recommended by Aaron, I feel uber DSM now), it works. I had a vacuum cap on this spot and sure enough as Kozmic warned it blew apart. Kozmic also recommended this fix too, hose with bolt in it and clamps. So that was the big hold up. It's back to running smooth again now though, I'll fix this properly sometime in the future, for now it stays :) I am going to pull my fuel pump assembly tonight to ensure that there are no leaks there otherwise Jon is working on getting load a bit lower so we can run 35psi in the future. Car absolutely rips though on wastegate, loving it. Also, we did some mivec adjustment, no more popping/break up at spool, it was surge it looks like..spooling too fast! To be continued... |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
The cap that exploded... was that the one we just bought when doing the catch can install?
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Yes, that one.
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Glad to see the magic blue hose seems to be working!
It was good to get a ride on Sunday, your car fucking rips all the way to red line! It will be fun to see what happens once you stoke the fire :D |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Get this bitch finished up so you and Josh can line em up :D
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
^ what he said. Crank the boost up.
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
What is the magic blue hose for? No idea what that port was originally used for, a PCV perhaps?
Glad to hear it's running better though! |

Update: Pulled fuel pump assembly, god i hate squishing back there (especially since i tweaked my back yesterday somehow working at the evo noob mod day, I was in serious pain lol but want this thing working), it looks pretty good, no visible leaks. I was by myself and its late so I am waiting tomorrow to put it together. Jon says if I prime the fuel line and no leaks, its time for the mas boosters! So tomorrow i will have a buddy or my brother turn the key while i watch it with it semi out the tank. Hopefully tomorrow I get to try something besides wastegate pressure :) |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
looking good! I would just say if you have the sending unit out just pick up some submersible fuel line and replace the rubber lines in the tank and be done with it.
Can't wait to hear your results! |

yeah it was not very flexible and it cost me like $35 for just enough to make the two short hoses in the tank lol. But if you have plastic lines you're probably fine. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Update:
Got the fuel assembly pulled. PUshed on the line and looked for leaks/cracks etc, nothing, looked good. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...pscb587603.jpg Had to wait until tonight for my brother to help out and turn the key while I watched, but you can see here, looks all good. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...psafcb38b8.jpg The only thing bubbling in there is the return pressure I think. So I buttoned it all up and hopefully weather doesn't get too bad over the next few days so we can try some more boost! Also few more parts came.... http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps68a6a053.jpg New bigger battery just because lol...my small battery still seems perfect, not sure why it was acting up at MAP on the dyno. But I spent 200 on this one so I am going to use it. Also my backordered fog deletes finally came in, time for more awesome looking grill! Started to tire out now too...ugh, need to keep pushing on, have lots of little shit to do including tuning! |
