Until the spark-plug issue I had no issues, I will let you know once I yank the existing shortblock apart :)

And I work every day from now until then. I'm hoping to get my trans jack built (out of 4x4's) and rotors turned this week but that's about it. I want a functioning car for the cruise, especially now that I can mostly shift the thing (it was my left foot) :)

I have a real tranny jack if you want to borrow it. And it is awesome that there is no structural damage! Guy at work blew his knee out last weekend, tore his miniscus and ACL. Not fun.

Hell yes! I would love to use it! How portable is it? Any chance of a handoff to spazzy at work and he can swing by with it? I'll return the favor for both via some beer.... :)

Re: beaterX project thread

It is fairly portable, about 3x the size of a regular jack. I could get to to spaz no problem. When do you need it by?

Well I have spare wheels and Friday off so I think Thursday night/Friday will be when I get started on this thing.

Fun fact though, I'm an uncle! Unfortunately my new niece is in Fargo, so probably headed up there Friday night to visit family.

Sigh, I swear I'll never get this project rolling! If anyone's bored Friday morning, I'm going to get started around 8am...txt me or just swing by!

Nice, we're heading to Fargo not this weekend but the following. Nothing wrong with Fargo, nice place to visit :)

Your tranny jack is enroute! Spaz has it now.

Ugh, rug pulled out from me again, leaving for F-town early. Evo will just have to wait. I feel proving grounds looming now...

JET--THANK YOU! I'll snag it and secure it before heading out of town.

Anyone have a slide hammer w/ 12mm thread on the end I could borrow next week?

Re: beaterX project thread

Nothing can stop me now, this project is rolling! I'm on the road for the weekend into next week, but before I left I threw down and made some progress :)

The plan is to strap the subframe, motor (manifolds, turbo, downpipe, fueling all still bolted up), trans, and xfer case to the trans jack, undo the 4 frame bolts and 2 side motor mounts, and drop it out the bottom. It will be interesting trying to get the chassis high enough to scoot it out but I've seen it done and I'm thinking this is the perfect task for 6 or 7 volunteers? :)

Probably make some light progress middle of next week and then probably try to drop it out thurs/fri/saturday-ish.

Glad I could at least add one thing to your list while I was over. I guess I should have thought ahead and not come in my work clothes, could have been closer!

All good, it's far enough along, I just wish my air compressor was not busted. Probably going to have to make that a priority once it comes time to disassemble the powertrain.

I have a engine holder. Basically a real version of Jim's 6x6 wooden contraption, if you or anyone ever wants to borrow it.

Re: beaterX project thread

This project is just sliding right along! Couple hours of work tonight on the car, Rosey stopped by for a beer and poof, engine is ready to come out! ACD line unhooked, power steering lines, ac condensor/lines out of the way, subframe and side motor mount bolts loosened, steering is unhooked and ready to drop away.

http://www.scheides.com/albums/evox-...2_07.sized.jpg

Trans jack is in place and ready to support engine/trans/xfer/subframe (need some more chain to strap it down a bit more)

http://www.scheides.com/albums/evox-...2_06.sized.jpg

Removed left strut, strung up the caliper, and removed wheel liner for maximum clearance on the way out

http://www.scheides.com/albums/evox-...2_03.sized.jpg

Rosey had a great idea: once the engine is loose, chain the hoist to the motor mounts for nice load distribution & a nice bolt-in point. All I need is some chain to do this and....a bunch of helping hands! Safety is key, I'd love to get 7-8 people over for a few beers and to slide this bish out. 3 guys balancing engine assembly, a few guys raising lowering the engine hoist and hanging onto the chassis 'just in case'..maybe someone to sit in the trunk for ballast :D

*might* be headed back to Fargo this weekend for family stuff but eyeballing Thursday or Saturday...I think I'll start a thread looking for volunteers.

Re: beaterX project thread

So after sleeping on it I realized I am overcomplicating things immensely. I will only use the trans jack to help get the motor assembly detached from the chassis, then simply use the hoist to lower it to the floor and onto some lower-sitting wheel dollies.

I was worried about rolling the motor out on the trans jack because it'd be higher off the ground and maybe a little tough to balance, but if I get it nice and stable on the wheel dollies then I won't have as much balancing to do while lifting the chassis up and dragging the engine out AND it will end up sitting lower so we won't have to lift the chassis as high.

Good point! This sounds like an even better plan!

Depending on time/day I will try to swing by and help out, but that sounds like a lot of people.

Scheides, I can help just send me a text when you are working on this. I have a engine load balancer attachment for the hoist, if you want to use it.

Thanks, I've got one too :)

I'm thinking Thursday night put this thing on the ground. Probably only need 2-3 people at most.
