Re: SE take two!
I drove my X up once for a DB tune before going to Cobb, but Andrew hasn't gotten a tune anywhere yet. I always used to have DB tune my IX, but that's when I lived in MN.

Re: SE take two!
So even would a bad tune isn't a bit surprising one of these Howard rods would snap and at that power level?
|
Re: SE take two!
With a bad tune it's not about power, it's about cylinder pressure. High compression pistons + a lot of boost + too much timing + E85 is a dangerous combination for an inexperienced tuner.

Gotcha... thanks for clarifying. :)

Re: SE take two!
First to ever completely snap, they did have a rod bend north of 1000whp once.
|
Re: SE take two!
Steve hills Evo had a bent olivers as well.

Re: SE take two!
Got some good work done this weekend the head came off and to be expected some damage at least 3 bent valves in #3 and some combustion chamber stuff too. I've sent the EF3 back to MAP in the process of becoming an EF4 and I will shipping the Head back to MAP as well for some MAP TLC. Sould have the engine out next weekend and start putting it back together as soon as the head comes back then a mad rush to get it ready to drive up for the Spring Cruise can i get a Hell Yeah!!!!

Re: SE take two!
Turbo looks close to being done...words out on the the head as damage to the combustion chamber occurred waiting to hear back from MAP as they are doing their best to salvage it... also >9o% chance its not going to be ready for the cruise :(

Assembled longblock, special thanks to Tachyon for driving down and lending a hand! MAP Stage 2 2.3L with MAP ported head w/+1mm valves: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/IMAG0114.jpg MAP EF4 w/anti-surge, ported by PPI, coated by SPC: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/IMAG0115.jpg 9:1 compression, pump gas, and a professional tune this time around though :) This thing may very well have 500+ WHP on 93-octane in it! |

Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
haha I like the new title
I need to ride in this beast on the cruise son! I can be your co-pilot for part of it. :) |
Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
So if I'm reading this right and I'd like to think I am this is your 3rd motor and the first 2 blew from corn and your 3rd your switching to 93.
I'm kind've scared, I'm currently undergoing a massive build to from a 2.0 16g corn fed to a 2.3 stroker with a FP black and with the numbers I want I'm sticking with corn. I guess my question is do you know what went wrong, is corn that unpredictable, or was is it all in your the tune? |
Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
First two blew up on E85, this will be the 3rd engine, will be running 93, and getting a professional tune this time.
The bigger your setup and the further you push it, the less margin for error there is. Long story short, he ran too much boost on the stock block and too high of a compression ratio on his first built block. Combine that with an inexperienced tuner, especially on E85, and it's a recipe for disaster. Shit happens, learn from your mistakes, and move on from there. This car will be back bigger and badder very soon and with a good tune should be very reliable for a long time. The plan is to drive it cross-country and bring it on the Spring Cruise :) |
Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!
Good luck, i voted 475whp, I like that you are determined to drive it across country like a normal car.
