Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
Man that sucks. I think you need a beater NA honda to get you through these types of times. Modded/project cars are ftl for DDs.

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
Shitty man, how the hell did you catch my luck??? It must have rubbed off on you on the cruise or something...

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
Sorry to hear dude, that really sucks :(
But this is exactly why I will never own a modded vehicle without also having a normal, reliable DD vehicle on the side as well. As much as it sucks, I'd recommend keeping one toy/project, and get a 2nd vehicle as a reliable DD. |
Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
Wow, this car is really out to kick your ass...
What's it going to take to do the HG, I'm assuming the engine would have to be lifted, right? |
Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
Well I have good news and better news. Firstly I would like to apologize for last night's emo session. Basically I was driving and saw it overheat, tried to stay positive and say "oh it's out of coolant." I did put new coolant in it and drove it and it seemed fine, then it started overheating again. I still tried to be positive and look in the engine bay and I could hear what sounded like a hissing noise coming from the DS head area. Looked underneath the car and saw coolant spraying everywhere from where it looked like the head. So naturally I assumed it was the head with the limited recourses I had at the time.
My car problems have just been one after another so I think I hit my limit last night and I apologize. The good news is it wasn't the head gasget, it was the heater core feed hose. Which happens to be RIGHT NEXT to the head gasget area. It was spewing coolant onto the head and therefor looked like a blown gasget from the angles I was looking. I fixed that and it's fine. The BETTER news is I found my boost leak I believe and the car is retarded fast now as it holds boost to redline now, instead of tapering to 10PSI. It makes so much torque on the dry pavement I can't keep traction through 1st, 2nd and part of 3rd. I do think I'll need a retune though with this amount of boost, I'll be logging it this week. |

Fuck the bus pass, then. :D

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
Oh man nice! Be gentle with it, make it last the whole winter season! haha

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
I'm not gentle with anything. Actually, I was only flooring it to see what the coolant temps would do while i was logging the temp and the car broke the wheels loose.
I've been pretty easy on it lately, which was also why I was so upset when I thought the HG was blown, it didn't make sense to me. |
Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
Shawn, just don't get too down about this. It's fixable and it's certainly not the end of the world!
Also, I saw a sign from above just now showing me that everything is indeed going to bs ok! http://i.imgur.com/NTQwG.jpg |

OMG! I made that post before reading the coolant hose update. BADASS!

Glad to hear its nothing major, keep rocking. I think a modded car is as reliable as you make it, rubber does deteriorate with age so its to be expected just sucky it made itself look like something worse. Can we get a boobies smiley and its code would be :shawn: or :doughtcom: |

An interesting video (most of it's stupid) but this is a 2006 WRX with that setup making 417AWHP/460TQ on their dynojet. At the very beginning of the video it shows the powerband, I've never seen anything like it... makes my Evo look stupid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0bz4hQG98Q&hd=1 |
Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
I'm scared.

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
LOL don't be silly man! An aquamist on your Evo would bring you up to just about that power level, not quite as much torque though. Having the power curve flat like that is a good sign the turbo is completely maxed out though, awesome that it flows enough to keep power steady up top w/o dropping off.
How big is the dominator (not actually a 20g right?) for that thing? Sounds like a good street setup, BBK-sized--my favorite! Did you not ride in my evo8? It did all of the stuff all mentioned in that video but better--true mapswitching (no wastegate pressure on alky off/fail) and 480whp dynojet :) Great goals though, alky/e85 and a nice basic turbo upgrade make for a hella fun street car! |

The Subaru has bigger plans. I plan on maxing the motor out, which is that range, and seeing where to go from there. I think 350AWHP at DB in a < 2800lb car would be hella quick, plus tracking that thing is the ultimate goal. I have a bone to pick with someone that will remain nameless. I plan on doing more suspension tweaks and weight reduction on top of the new power. And yes your aquamist setup was fucking amazing, I've watched the video a couple of times and will definitely be inspiration of how my setup will eventually be setup. I've wanted that for a long time. |
Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
Wow happy costumer!!! Subaru exhaust sounded kind of cheap though . . .

20G FTMFW!

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
Well I decided to buy a cheap ass WRX turbo for now and run wastegate pressure (7PSi sonnn) until spring. It took me like 1 1/2 hours to install tonight and runs fine. Maybe the car will last more than a week this time =D
The failure of the turbo could be one of three things. 1.) There's a filter in the banjo bolts for the oil feed lines on Subarus, these get clogged and there's a TSB on them, the dealers just remove them. GO SUBARU! I removed this tonight. 2.) The VF39 was beaten on before I got it, however it didn't have any shaft play when I installed it. 3.) Jesus hates me. Now it's time to get the Evo running. |
Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer
After reviewing my 3 possibilites, I've determined it could very well be all three.
