Re: SMIM Showdown! Lets figure this out once and for all!
I agree. I think we should use a car that is represenative of the "average dsmer's" goals. Seems like most people shoot for the 400 mark from what I read. So I guess I would say it should be a car of no more than 500whp, and somthing that is relaible. Not going to have issues half way through testing.
And I agree that either a AEM or DSMlink is crutial. We need to be able to adjust each manifolds tune, so we can insure that each i tested at the same AFR and Knock count. I'd volunteer my car, but im a long way from putting it back together, and now that I found out I owe Obamma Yo-mamma money on my taxes, progress is deffinatly going to slow. |
Re: SMIM Showdown! Lets figure this out once and for all!
Shane raises a good point. maybe throw up a vote come closer time.
I would volunteer, but well yeah. |
Re: SMIM Showdown! Lets figure this out once and for all!
man now i want to know the stats on my QPR manifold, body like venom but runners like the REEF
|
Re: SMIM Showdown! Lets figure this out once and for all!
Then pull her off! I've got 2 more coming from the link forums. A jmf street, and a driven innovations one. Never heard of that one.
Responce over there pretty positive. |
Re: SMIM Showdown! Lets figure this out once and for all!
To bad you are so far away. I would love to test my manifold against any of the previous mentioned Intake mani's.
If the worlds fastest Evo runs a unmodified Forrester. I would love to see what my ported and polished Forrester flows. |

Re: SMIM Showdown! Lets figure this out once and for all!
Is anybody still in touch with Iroc_g ? I wanted to see the test info now that I have the R.E.E.F. "Race" SMIM
|
Re: SMIM Showdown! Lets figure this out once and for all!
I would also like him to do another test. I have the NEW magnus design and want to see how it compares.

Re: SMIM Showdown! Lets figure this out once and for all!
Im still here. Contacting me via email is usually best (greg@prokartindoor.com), but this works too.
Sorry I haven't updated anybody in a while! This economy has forced me to hold up on a few things, which included spending time on SMIM's that I could otherwise spend on making money. Well, trying to atleast! In short, I worked with a local place to design a new SMIM. It is amazing! My car has NEVER ran so smoothly. It out flowed everything before it, and in my humble opinion, looks amazing! Like I said, the prototype is currently on my car. We planned on dyno testing it in September, But I was running 115% duty cycles at 25psi! With a turbo that is pretty dormant below 20, this wans't a good thing. So I parked the car until I could invest into either a full blown setup or bosch 044 and some new injectors. Hopefully, this spring I can get back on track. If anybody is SERIOUS about wanting more information and pricing on one of these, please let me know. These will be made to order, and would probably take 3-4 weeks to get. So far, the plan is to sell the design to somebody else because the guy who I designed this with doesn't have the time in his shop to deal with sales and service. Hes a very small shop, and is extremely busy. But until I get around to dyno testing this, thats on hold too. If people out there still want things tested, Im more than willing. All you need to do is drop them off to me, and ill have them ready to be picked back up in less than 48 hours! |

Re: SMIM Showdown! Lets figure this out once and for all!
Looking goood! I assume you sold the jmf? Care to re-post the findings again? It was a pleasure talking with you throughout the process for this.
btw, you still working at pro-kart? |
Re: SMIM Showdown! Lets figure this out once and for all!
Yeah, still at ProKART!
I sold the JMF on the link forum. Somebody in Cali if I remember right. I kept some of the NOS setup, and got some new parts too and put it in. First time I tried to use it, we found out one of the nozzles was cracked. Scarred the crap out of me! I believe the findings are all still up on the site! We had a server issue here a few months ago, so It is possible that its gone. Ill look into it. Ifnot, I have it saved here as well. |
Re: SMIM Showdown! Lets figure this out once and for all!
Very nice, Ill be soon in the market for a new intake manifold. Btw I cannot view the flow bench results either.
|
Re: SMIM Showdown! Lets figure this out once and for all!
Although I do not have the test sheet in front of me, I believe it was 460cfm per runner, with less than a 2 cfm difference best to worst.
I still have the web page saved for the SMIM testing. Appareantly, our webmaster deleted everything and deleted my password as well. I was using ProKART's server to do it. If somebody has a suggestion to get things up again, please let me know |
Re: SMIM Showdown! Lets figure this out once and for all!
Yup, results are gone, if you could find a way to re-post them that would be awesome!
|
Re: SMIM Showdown! Lets figure this out once and for all!
contact scheides..maybe there's space on his server for this site..?
|
Re: SMIM Showdown! Lets figure this out once and for all!
It has room for swifty bashing (thats alot of room), so I think it would have room for the intake results. :)

Swifty asked me to re-post the test data. This is the latest version I still had on my hard drive, as i have gotten a new computer since then (Thank God)

Re: SMIM Showdown! Lets figure this out once and for all!
Do you still have your prototypes available? I need a smim. PM me
|
Re: SMIM Showdown! Lets figure this out once and for all!
Thanks for reposting, i think it was down when I tried to look the first time.
That is insane, that companies never use a flow bench. Thank you for your hard work and time |
Re: SMIM Showdown! Lets figure this out once and for all!
I personally did not make the prototypes. However, after seeing what we did from all of this, we did design and make our own SMIM for my car. If memory serves, it flowed 463 cfm across the board, and a plenum size roughly around 4500cc's. It's been on for about two years now, and the only issue I had was a stripped bolt at the TB flange, because I apparently hemanned it on in a rush. I have also redesigned the entire NOS system, into a very clean rail style setup.
I wasn't happy enough with anything available on the market enough to buy one of them, although the newer style JMF race was close. We did find a somewhat simple solution to increase the flow to the down cylinders, and cure a good portion of the turbulence. However, we decided that making our own would be a good RnD project, as well as a learning expierience for me. I would also be interested in looking further into the magnus cast pieces, although my initial impression is that it will have similar characteristics to there other designs. I was going to borrow one last year to test, but since we have now upgraded to a newer flow bench, I didn't want anybody to think the numbers were skewed, although we have used calibration tests to ensure the new one is within 1 cfm of the old. The newer bench also has much lower resolution, reading down to a hundredth of a cfm if desired! I do believe I have all the materials still to make two more of the CNC SMIM's. I'd have to double check that, as well as pricing on one. If you or somebody else was truly interested, I could look into that. Re: SMIM Showdown! Lets figure this out once and for all!
I'd like some info on this.
I must say the "yet to be named" and "REEF Race" look pretty similar. |

The R.E.E.F. and this one look very similar, but internally, they are quite different. Dimensionally, they are different as well both internally and externally. Our manufacturing method is also worlds apart! We spent alot of time (6 months easily) just tweaking little things to get airflow exactly where we wanted it at varying loads. Quote:

Re: SMIM Showdown! Lets figure this out once and for all!
^You are right. I'm sorry for that you can tell just by looking at the pics, esp. internally where the differences are.
That nitrous setup pic gets me excited. Like I said PM me some info on the manifold when you get time. Its one of the changes I'd like to make to the car before next season, along with cams. |
Re: SMIM Showdown! Lets figure this out once and for all!
Hate to clutter this, but if I were to make an intake manifold for my 2JZ, would you be able to flow test it? Just would be curious how it does.
