Re: Beater 2g
scheides will be so proud of me. I decided to go the upgrade route and will be shipping my turbo off to FP tomorrow. They said turn around time is usually only a couple days so I'm hoping I can get back to the track and make a couple passes at full power with the nitrous.
Thanks again for all the input guys, it helps to see the options all in one spot and the pros and cons I didn't think of. |
Re: Beater 2g
Sweet! Can't wait to see this thing move at the track!
|
Re: Beater 2g
SWEET. Can't wait to see this BEAST!!!
|
Re: Beater 2g
sweet dude, i think you made a smart decision. some people get the crazy giant upgrade itch and end up spending a TON of money for a setup that performs marginal at best.
I think your combo has treated you insanely well and i'm excited to see how far you take it :) |
Re: Beater 2g
If you didn't drive your car on the street and had a built motor that could rev really high I would say go bigger, but considering you like to "drive" your car I think you made the right choice.
If 600whp doesn't make you happy on the street then your should go fucking work for NASA or something. :) |
Re: Beater 2g
Nice, so you got a HTA 3065? What does the HTA wheel flow, 72 lb/min instead of 65? I can never remember. Anyway, should spool a bit better plus more HP, never a bad deal, and cheaper than a new turbo.
|
Re: Beater 2g
If u got the 35hta don't be surprised to see 700+whp
|
Re: Beater 2g
Huge thanks to Danny and Shane for all the help getting my car up and running to make it to the track one last time, those guys are the shiznit!
Finally got my turbo back about a week ago now. http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._7327315_n.jpg Pulled a few late'ish nights putting her back together to make it to the dyno last Thursday... http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._6077303_n.jpg That was without any nitrous^ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjdNPd7k9vI Then took it down to cedar falls only to blow apart my intercooler again. Only got 2 runs in before it blew and spun really bad at the top of 2nd when the nitrous hit, but this is the best one. Kinda bummed but was still a pretty fun trip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GakxyONBN8 Maybe I'll cage the pile this winter so I can run somewhere other than Cedar or maybe build a motor, if only I could make up my mind. haha |
Re: Beater 2g
Awesome! I see an HTA wheel in there, what are the specifics on the new snail?
No cage! Keep it a street car! I had a feeling in the back of my mind you had something up your sleeve yet this year :D |
Re: Beater 2g
God I love the look of those HTA hawtness's. Too bad it's only BB.
|
Re: Beater 2g
Wow, looks like you had all kinds of traction problems through first and second. Time for some better tires and a new suspension setup?
|
Re: Beater 2g
Thanks guys!
It's the dsm82, just upgraded the 3065. I wish I knew more about it, but its a fp turbo haha Too bad it's only bb? Yea I need a set of slicks, maybe I'll get that figured out first. It has a set of tein coilovers on it, just need some more track time on them to figure out what works best for this pile |

I say get some fricken wrinklewalls!! lol |
Re: Beater 2g
I wasn't slamming it at all. I just haven't run a BB turbo. Too $$, and expensive to rebuild, when/if it's needed. Otherwise, you can bet your ass I'd have one. I'll be going that other route this winter. In either light, Im excited to see what this turbo yields you with that spray. Hoping for some 9's for ya next year.
|
Re: Beater 2g
After having a BB gt3076 I can say that BB turbos are definitely sweet. Initial spool is only a few hundred RPM sooner than journal bearing turbos of the same size, but transient boost response (between shifts) is super fast.
|
Re: Beater 2g
That is like, the ideal looking dsm dynograph.
|
Re: Beater 2g
Hey brad, what was your last run before the rebuild w/o nitrous?
Overlays plz? :D |
Re: Beater 2g
Thanks again guys! I didn't say you were slamming it swifty, I was just curious on what you meant is all. Too bad you guys got rained out on Sunday, I would've liked to see what that beast could do.
I'll try and bug Shane on Friday to see if he can do an overlay. I think the best it ever made before without nitrous was 510 and never really pushed it much but think it was pretty close to being maxed. It spools a tiny bit faster than the 3065 but makes pretty much the exact same power up top, not very impressive to me at least for an 'upgrade.' Boost was falling off pretty hard core so maybe with it holding boost it'll make some more power or keep the power band from falling off at all. |
Re: Beater 2g
perhaps you had a boost leak at the intercooler that only worsened when you ran at CF? Why does the fmic keep blowing?
I too wish I could have gotten it out. I guess now I gotta wait to see what it does next year. |
Re: Beater 2g
It blew in a spot that was re-welded after the nitrous back fire. It blew on the longest spot on the end tank of the intercooler, have to think its 35ish lbs per square inch and on such a long end tank it can only take so much abuse. My shitty launches and getting a little sideways in 2nd probably didn't help at all either with the way it is mounted.

Re: Beater 2g
Power was pretty much the same at the same boost as the old FP3065. The HTA comp wheel did spool it a couple hundred RPMs quicker. I think it was hitting 30psi at around 4400RPMs, not bad for a car making this kind of power. We thought we would try more boost and try to make use of the new comp wheel, but it made the exact same boost from 5500 or so on up. We might just be blowing open his wastegate, it only has a .9 bar spring in it and we aren't pushing any boost to the top port. I think peak power was at around 32-33psi, if the boost drop problem is just the wastegate and not something maxed in the turbo, then it would be interesting to see what it would make at 36-40psi.

Re: Beater 2g
love the car
just watched the video of it run 10.9 at BIR  |
Re: Beater 2g
nice powah.
|
Re: Beater 2g
Just curious why you went with the DSM82 vs the DSM86? the 86 is where it's at. Did they put in a full 35R turbine wheel, or leave the 30R wheel on there? That could be your choking point if it's an hta82 comp wheel w/ the 30R turbine.
VERY respectable powerband though, keep having fun with it! |
Re: Beater 2g
It is the only upgrade they offer for the FP3065. All they did was change the compressor wheel.
|
Re: Beater 2g
Hrm and here I thought the DSM82/86 were full 35r turbine wheels, but reading their site it doesn't look like they actually are.
|
Re: Beater 2g
Sorry to hear about the bad luck, twinkie told me about it.
Next year should be an awesome one for you. |
Re: Beater 2g

Should help save some more weight off the car. Probably wouldn't have bought either of the two things but found good deals on both of them, so why not. |
Re: Beater 2g
Going for that no-so-streetable setup now then? :P That looks uncomfortable as hell!
|
Re: Beater 2g
In my mind it will always be a street car, but its probably never been a street car to most. Open down pipe and no a/c since its been running, and after bir I took the heat out and recently with the twin disc it would probably be pretty un-streetable to most, but I don't mind it.
The pro drag seat is actually very comfy, and I think I'll honestly like it better than the stock seat. I'm so damn lanky that my head hit the roof of the car if I sat straight up, and with a helmet on I had to turn my head to the side. With this seat I'll be able to mount it lower and hopefully fix the being too lanky problem |
Re: Beater 2g
A sheetmetal seat won't fix you being a lanky ginger, just help make you fit better :P So no seat cushion at all? Cruising around town won't hurt at all? I'm just a skeptic, sorry. Looks nice though!
|
Re: Beater 2g
Nah, I'll rock a seat cushion, just found this thing pretty cheap on craigslist and always wanted one. I'd probably would've gotten a nice sparco/recaro lighweight seat but I'm not that baller, so this will do.
http://kirkeyracing.com/images/Thumb...EED_Medium.JPG I'll let you sit in it with a cover and I bet you'll say, they really aren't that bad ;) |
Re: Beater 2g
It looks PAINFUL! Man talk about hitting a pot hole LOL! Track raced maybe then. With those crazy suits on lol,but man still your BUTTS GONE BE ON FIRE!!!
|
Re: Beater 2g
lol, nice find.
I have sat in a bare one for a few mins and they are comfy, but I have heard from a lot that the seat pads are good. F what anyone says as long as you like it then cool, if not sell it and find something else. You get some new WG springs yet or waiting till next year? Keep the stockblock and get the record clearly. |
Re: Beater 2g
Haha I didn't realize they made covers for those, I def would love to try it out! Def nice, I can see those being more comfy.
|
Re: Beater 2g
Thanks Aaron! No new wastegate spring yet, thinking about letting it sit for the winter and try and save up to get the thing cagged. I think it'd be pretty cool to go for the record but it'd probably be cheaper to build this motor rather than finding another block. I'm super cheap where I can be tho, so I'll probably just let it buck on a stock block haha.
|
Re: Beater 2g
haha, hooray for cheap people!
|
Re: Beater 2g
Went to go fill the car up with gas yesterday night after finishing mounting my krikey, and I have to say that spinning instantly when boost hit in 3rd was kinda cool
The cool thing about the way my dad and I made the kirkey brackets is that they are completely removable and utilize stock mounting holes. So for daily driving I can swap seats in no time. If anybody is buying a steering wheel and hub, DO NOT buy from Crowderscustomizing.com. About a month after I ordered my quick release, hub, and adapter I finally get all the right parts... http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...A/a1e532b2.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...A/76b81810.jpg I also took out some of the interior wiring like door ajar sensor, washer pump thing, other misc wiring, rear speakers, and the front seat belts saved me a total of 19lbs. Hoping to make it as light as possible while still looking stock besides the kirkey. I'm trying to think of other cheap things I can do to make it go faster some how, but kinda running out of ideas. |
Re: Beater 2g
^now you are making me cry, all the things you are doing are the things I wished were never done to my car and that I am trying to fix.
I'll be home for the next 2 weeks, maybe I can stop by with twinkie I can usually come up with some crazy ideas when the project is in front of me. Looks good man. |
