Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

So I found an online service manual for this, and things don't look good for the block design. It will use 2 bolt mains, and I'm not totally sure yet, but it's possible it's an open deck design. So that means they probably just threw some different rods and pistons, and oil squirters in a non turbo block and called it good enough.

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

eh, it'll still be awesome. The thing is, the bolt patterns will probably be the same for the bellhousing. The motor mounts will most likely work from engine to engine, so a 4b11t swap (I bet) will be a pretty straight forward operation. Plus, it'll be an adventure to find the limits of the stock block!

aww, such pessimism. Be happy! a turbo 4 banger rwd coupe. When was the last time we had such a sweet car? (my guess is about 1982-1989, booyah!)

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

The Evo X motor is open deck and the 4G63s are 2 bolt mains.

Kracka 02-05-2009 04:51 PM

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

Isn't the Evo X 4B11T a semi-closed designed basically meaning a reinforced open deck?

Kevin 1G Drummer 02-05-2009 04:51 PM

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

I know the 4g63s are 2 bolt mains, but I thought the EvoX motor was semi-closed deck? I still plan on getting one if I like the way it drives, and I'm not too worried about the block cuz I don't plan on making a ton of power anyways.

I think the point was simply that it's not looking like it's the EVO 4b11t.

Yeah, that was my main point. I think this motor should still support 400whp easily. Appearantly these blocks are similar to the ones in the new Caliber SRT4, and there's people making 500whp on the stock internals.

If anyone else is interested in the service manual website, it's: http://www.hmaservice.com/ You have to create an account, but it's free to use.

Looks like 2.5 bar MAP sensors from the manuals, which are good for 20-22psi. And high impendance injectors.

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

Why is a returnless fuel system so bad? Does that mean trying to run larger injectors is much more difficult?

Kevin 1G Drummer 02-06-2009 10:53 AM

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

^^ I was wondering that too. I would think that as long as the fuel rail sees the same pressure, it wouldn't really matter if the fuel is constantly flowing through. I could see it being difficult to run a larger fuel pump though. But at the same time, I wonder if it would really need a large pump since it wouldn't have to work as hard to maintain pressure.

It's not --unless you have a fetish for AFPRs. Personally, I find it a lot easier to leave the fuel pressure alone and adjust PWs with a "fuel computer" to achieve the desired fuel ratio; it just seems more... civilized.

Shane@DBPerformance 02-06-2009 12:14 PM

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

You will see that it is common on a lot of cars with returnless fuel systems stock to goto a return system when going for power. SRT-4, 350Z, RSX, newer Mustangs, etc. Upgraded fuel pumps like Walbros are also likely to burn out when put into a returnless setup, but Ford makes some OEM high flow pumps for their returnless FI cars like the GT500 and Ford GT that support a lot of power.

On a boosted car, you need to raise the fuel pressure 1psi for each psi of boost, just to keep the injectors working at their rated flow rate to fight the pressure in the intake. Some cars will try to adjust voltage to the pump to increase fuel pressure, some just run a static pressure which effectively make the injectors smaller and smaller with more boost and are a pain to tune.

Kevin 1G Drummer 02-06-2009 12:21 PM

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

I see. I noticed that there is a fuel pressure regulator, so maybe this one will work like the ford ones you were describing? Also, I wouldn't think it would be too hard to turn it into a return system, would it? Probably just put a return style fuel rail on it, and FPR, and run a line back to the tank.

As far as I know, the shipments didn't even leave the ports until yesterday. So I wouldn't expect then to get here for another week or so. If even that soon. Jarod at Buschur ordered one, and it was supposed to be leaving for Ohio yesterday, so he probably won't see it till the end of next week, or early the following week. I suppose it's possible that some of the dealerships on the west coast could already have them on the showroom floor.
