Update:

New 6 puck XTD disc is in with southbend pressure plate. Car clutch feels lighter now! I also found real E-85 so time to re-map with my designated co-driver, Ryan, tomorrow. We'll see what it does, probably make a high/low boost cut off at 16psi so I have a "cool" and "die 9b's die" setting.

My old ones were definitely on DIE DIE mode. Blue smoke all the time haha... I always gotta gawk when I see a 3S in town now. I miss my VR4.

Yeah I need valve stem seals, but 155,000 miles on the motor will do that. This winter, assuming everything holds together fine, will be that update.

bring that die setting so we can see new turbos and 10s!

Doubt it. We'll see how tweaking goes with Ryan tonight on real E-85. Then dial in the 2-step and NLTS setup and its as good as its going to get by the track date. I may rent a hour of dyno time to just validate a few things prior to the event if the virtual dyno numbers are close to the record. Problem is the car is still very heavy and will be as it will retain creature comforts, over time it will lighten up, but I don't foresee it dropping below 3500lbs. Sub 12.5=happy. Sub 11.99=goal achieved.

Then I'll start to think about cam gears and larger turbo's. Problem is I can't decide if I want to start with a mild upgrade, like 13t's (can get into a low mileage set ready to bolt on for $1000ish) or HT12 wheels with clipped turbines (rebuilt for $900, with bolt-on), or save the $2200+ for DR650's that have been known to put down 500awhp on pump....

Maybe I'll just throw nitrous at it.

Project took a step sideways last night. With 155,800 miles on the motor, it spun a bearing. We heard a slight clank after a pull to where power was dropped down, thought it may have been the TOB being a little loose as tension on the slave cylinder was weak, and then did another quick pull to check. Well that pull resulted in a smoke screen, hole in the oil pan, and probably the need for a 4-bolt upgrade.

With this amount of miles, I am not disappointed, just a forced upgrade to a 4 bolt motor. Still plan on going to the proving grounds to support John LaCroix's Galant, and hopefully will hit the track with this car end of season.

Plus side is the car was making 368hp@4300rpm and 480tq!

Ouch that sucks! So much for keeping it low budget. :/ At least your labor is free, still a bummer not to have it running for the summer.

I agree. It was in the plan, but not until this winter. That is the problem with a high mileage motor somewhat "prone" to spun bearings already.

Holy Torque. Jeebus! Are you going to build the engine with forged internals now? stock rebuild?

T.B.A Going to continue with side work, tuning, engine work, mechanical labor, and let the car sit for a few weeks, probably won't have time to pull the motor until AFTER the proving grounds. Then I"ll decide.

If things work out, very good chance it won't be TD04's anymore, unless I do just toss in a stock motor to get it up and running. The cost of a stock motor is so close to a monster build...might as well just spend the 25% more is my current train of thought.

Yea might as well. That's what I like about having a project AND a daily, you can let the project sit if need be while you're pissed or whatever, then get to it when you have the time/patience/money. Unlike a Daily project which you are forced to fix ASAP.

Exactly!

I may rip out the wideband and toss it in the truck to see what I can get for MPG out of it though  May be worth the few bucks.

Sorry dude.

For now I am blaming this on the mileage on the motor, 155,800. Now.... next month, I'll figure out the forced upgrade spin on this minor setback.

Good luck whatever you decide.

Torn between a well balanced 3.0 setup at 50-60% power rating and a 3.5 setup I can utilize at 40% capacity...

Unless I find a smoking deal on a stock one, I"ll just drop in a built short block.
