Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Sounds like what happened to my car when a spark plug broke. Was running fine, started it back up and it was idling like shit and threw a misfire code. Yanked the plugs and found 1 of the 4 to be broken.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Car fixed!
Here is the plug from #4. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...15E726FF69.jpg No idea honestly why it was causing issues, it looks fine. But we swapped the 4 spark plug before anything else and bam, problem solved. Threw in one of my older plugs and she runs great again. Also, we made sure they were all gapped at .022", so we are good there. I came back and do have a leak somewhere in my fuel assembly, maybe part of the fuel pickup problem? Don't know. There was a small patch of gas that I think came from when I prime the lines before starting, I always turn the key with the clutch out and I am guessing one of the lines out of the tank, maybe around my check valve is leaking. We pulled the fuel pump assembly too and looked at all that, and it looks good. Made a few adjustments and tightened everything down. Bottom line, car runs all pretty again! Yay. Now my new OEM fuel pump hanger will be here soon and then I am on to moving back to a single pump. Game on. Thanks a ton again Shawn (simulatedwood), you da man. |

I am just glad this was easy, last thing we need is Dave selling the Evo at a fire sale price. |

Nice! Glad it was simple.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
New hangar came today, going to try and get it in this week with new fuel setup.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Turn the spark plug upside down. Does the insulator fall over the electrode?

Glad it was something simple this time, Dave.
Looking forward to some T and C on the fall cruise! |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Sweet. Good luck w/ the new lines.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Wally 400 with new lines install is scheduled for this Monday! Thank you property tax return ;)
So hopefully I will have some testing results next weekend, its my best friends wedding so I will be either drinking or hung over so it probably won't be for another few days after that but we will see :) |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Was a bit of miscommunication last week, but I did drop the car off last Monday.
The "new" OEM hangar with wally 400 is installed but they are waiting on some fittings to finish the job right now. Tracking says Wednesday for the fittings so hopefully I can pick the evo up Wed night after work, worst case Thursday I guess. As long as I have it this weekend I am happy, but I need to get back to logging more and re-tuning with Drenas. Next on the list we are doing some knock sensor learning stuff. My stuff was all pretty stock, the knock tables and separation between low/high octane timing maps. Need to get ready for the cruise with more boost. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Why did you get the 400 over the new 450 (which I thought was specially designed for e85 and has a bit more flow)?
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I got the one that is for e85, which sure might be called the 450.
From what Chris said it flows a bit more than the 400, I didn't know it was called a 450 though. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
It is the e85 safe pump. However I do not think they are rated for more flow.
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
The flow chart that Walbro put out looked like about 10% more, not a lot but still something. At 70psi, 400 flows 316lph and the 450 flows 355lph.

E85 version
http://www.maperformance.com/blog/wp.../400lphE85.jpg Regular: http://www.maperformance.com/product...lph-charts.jpg So yes, small gains in flow apparently. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Ha, you beat me to it. I was trying to find those charts.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Car is back home!
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...psa10445a9.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps74c5ae1c.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...psf950fc9e.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...pscc037f41.jpg Not a whole lot to show really, its a fuel pump in the fuel tank lol. So few notes... Once MAP had all the extra fittings sorted out, the lowest fuel pressure they saw was 65psi at idle. This is with the return siphon drilled out, unsure how much but as much as possible without screwing shit up. They also drilled out the pressure relief on the hanger too. One thing they didn't do was turn my feed line into the return. It's only 1/16th bigger anyway, but with the stock hanger it just wasn't happening. So now I have the hard wired wally 400 e85 version in the tank with a 6AN feed line and new Fuel lab fuel filter. MAP was able to get idle pressure down to 50psi (without vac, with vac was 43 or whatever) by drilling out the fpr insert. I didn't have the bigger one so they modded the one that was in there. Then problem solved...so far everything is good. I did have a scare on the way home. I was barely able to shift into 3rd and 5th was ALMOST impossible to get into. So i immediately knew my shifter linkage was all goofed up somehow. At first I thought maybe MAP dropped something on it or some weird shit so I was like WTF. When I got home though I noticed the return line sank low enough to get in between everything. One zip tie and we are back in business now! HOpefully get some logs and tuning in this weekend. With a new base fuel pressure I will need some work from Baka I think! |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
saweet! Track 29th?

Just gotta dial in the car this week, shouldn't be an issue. Even if I am only tuned on 24-25 psi again I'll still go. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Hmm evo vs liter bike. Hopefully see you at the slippery rock
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Liter bike wins...badly:)

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Nice!

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
It will be my first time at the track so anything can happen.
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
It will be my first time as well. I will be more than happy with mid 11's first time out by the end of the day.
Guess we will see. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Partial log from my 30 min cruise into work today, checking cruising trims...
The Cruise trim looks good, or what I assume is the cruise, looks like trying to add fuels at idle though, or what I am guessing is idle. I never know for sure as I log LTFT_Used for Jon. Next up more idle logging, partial boost and maybe some WOT! :) http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps5e42d5b7.jpg At least trims aren't maxed out, so they aren't too terrible...needs work to get back right though. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Glad you didn't spring a shifting problem suddenly! Looks good now tune it up and go have some fun!

Did more logs today! Car is running great. Did a partial WOT run, mostly watching AFR's...looked good! http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ps9d9e0aab.jpg Time to turn the wick up, see what one wally 400 can do. Oh, biggest thing! I went up to 15psi or so at near empty (maybe an 1/8th of a tank), I had fuel! yay...new fuel system so far so good. |

Da fuck?
Apparently my car felt like starting to spool sooner...3800rpms? http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...pse5cbf60c.jpg Jon, what are you doing to me? |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
So Jon said there was an alt map with more boost...tried it out! Surged badly when i went WOT at 2.5k, so rolled into and this happened.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Dam you rev that bitch out. Looks like you need to do some fine tuning. so 10s this saturday?
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I'll be happy with 11s! It's my first time.
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Starting to look like my ef4 vdrs :) maybe its the cooler ambient temps helping with spool-up?
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Hope you make it saturday.
