But you guys are internet racers, you have to at least have a chance on paper to be happy.

Haha. Hope it makes it to pg this year.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
So, battling fuel pressure problems right now. My AEM is adjusted for max fuel pressure and it won't go above 42ish at idle.
So as I believe Shane suspected, the car appears to be bleeding fuel back through the second pump. Doing some testing now, but might be getting a check valve for the second pump soon. Need to bump fuel pressure so we can reduce load as I was hitting 330load and boost cut (319 load) on pump gas at like 24psi. So we are making it so the load is hopefully 270ish around there by changing around a lot of stuff. (injector scaling, MAF/MAp tables etc) Not going to lie, I doubt I am going to PG. Especially since work is really crazy. I am kinda bummed but frankly I don't want to go until the car is working fully. I will head out to RF or BIR at a test and tune day when its done if I don't make it. Still going to try and make it but not looking good now. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
You have 8 days left, that's plenty of time.

Plus..Don't think of the PG as just a event, think of it as a 3-day Mitsustyle cruise, with lots of nightly festivities, and driving with a hangover. 2 things we are good at. ;) |

Seriously, you need to just force yourself to have realistic goals, then focus on having fun, even if it's not at 10/10ths level. Heck, I only managed to get about 60% of the things I wanted to do done on my heap before the PG, but that's not going to stop me from enjoying what a brought to the fullest! Having slightly reduced fun > no fun. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Don't be like Chkmgnt...constant work in progress, then once it's finally done get fed-up and sell it. That's what happens when you don't stop and actually allow yourself to enjoy the car while it's in process.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
It might be just as easy as getting a check valve for the 2nd pump...but I need to pull the pump out sometime to look at it to get an appropriate one.
I am trying to make it, I have been working on it tons lately, like every night for weeks. But I am starting to run out of steam a bit and work is getting really bad. But we shall see, I could always just run pump gas there instead of e85 just to make it there. |

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Just run it at lower power, like 350-400, and run the road course instead.

Hmmm, interesting...I wouldn't mind doing that. But I still need to get my fuel pressure stuff sorted, then its just tuning. The car/tune is all jacked up as it was looking for a higher base pressure so I need to do that first. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
It's so crazy how much time and money you've put into this car and it still has issues..
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
What sort of check valve are you going to use? I have a -6 in/out one way fuel valve that I used on the V when I was having issues with the siphon letting fuel back into the tank.
Looks something like this but a little bigger: http://static.summitracing.com/globa...UM-220194B.jpg |

The size I haven't figured out yet. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Oh nice, if you have enough room outside the tank that would be a lot easier than trying to fit the check valve inside the tank.
Is the Y fitting AN or barbed? |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Here just went and took a picture :)
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/47d67cde.jpg From looking at this I assume these are barbed. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Yea, and that's not much room to work with. Good luck with the fuel issues, I thought most pumps had check valves built into them?
|

Its at idle where the issue is, low load in general, before the 2nd pump kicks on. When the second pump runs, there isn't an issue. I know, its not much room at all, not sure what to do now. I am not sure how big the check valves are, so I dunno. I think the wally 255's do have a check valve built in. But the pump I am using from blaqops is like a GT500 pump or something strange. |

Can't afford to lose two days if I want to make PG, saturday delivery ouch! But MUST FIX EVO! Normally I do all black/boring stuff as I like stock appearing shit, but they were out of stock until july, so I went balla blue :) |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Nice! Overnight parts, from Japan*
*'merica! |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I am officially throwing in the towel.... (edit: for PG only, not the evo in full haha)
I had to do some work (as in work, not car work lol) over the weekend and that coupled with fathers day = no time for car work. Also I was going to take friday off and next monday to prepare for proving grounds and recover :) That got axed as work is INSANE right now. So my tune is just not ready at all and neither is the car mechanically and this week just isn't going to give me a ton of time to finish it off. So I am not about to try and rush the car and go to PG to beat the piss out of it with a tune that isn't really ready, just ain't happening. As much as I would love to go, I want my first track experience to be fun and not filled with agony and a tow home. Good luck everyone else though :) I will be heading to slippery falls in the coming weeks though. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Good decision, but what do you need to do?
I thought it was good to go on pump gas? |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Quote:
Our goal was to have load be around 275 on pump gas where I was so we have room on it for when I do the E85 tune. Why do we need to lower load you might ask, well there is a hard coded load cap at 360 in the ECU, so you cannot go higher, so we are trying to make sure we don't hit that. So when we tried raising base pressure is when we found an issue with something (not sure yet) and realized pressure wasn't increasing enough. So until I figure out the fuel pressure problem and get a full retune on pump I wouldn't be ready. In theory I could revert to my old setup that I had last week and refine that tune a bit, but I don't want to waste my tuners time or my money for a tune that is just temporary. I'd rather fix everything and get it running properly. |

What a hassle :(

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
You going to slippery rock on a sport compact day?
I'm probably going to take my bike out to one before too long. Good call on not beating on the car with no good tune on it! |

But I am down for whichever. Honestly my first few runs are going to be rolling the car off the line...for pure trap speeds. then I will take a shot at launching the car. I want to try and get a good trap speed before I break anything ;) |

So are you still coming to the PG regardless?

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Don't worry man, plenty of time to hit the tracks this year. Plus racing an untuned car is retarded. Take your time and as long as you are making some progress its all good.
Although I was looking forward to seeing this in action, I can wait. |
