Re: Evo X upgrades

I will probably just have DB modify my AMS one to have a 3.5" MAF, should be relatively cheap and reuses my intake so the design will be the same.

lol. As if I knew how to weld aluminum or had any chance in hell of figuring out how to get the BOV pipe at the correct angle. I'm sure that Primo will buy those parts and then they can make it pretty.

Nothing that I'm talented enough to create would look right in my engine bay.

If you use a coupler and build a new MAF section then it isn't going to leave much room for a filter. I suppose you could switch to a CAI design. It doesn't look all that trivial to me but I don't work with metal.

I think Danny said they would basically cut part of my intake off. Then weld on a trasition to 3.5" and have just part of it be 3.5" not the whole thing. Just the MAF area is all that matters.

If Primo isn't too bad a price I might just use them, we will see.

Yeah, I meant just buy those and have Primo or whoever cut to fit and weld together. Should be simple enough, especially if they have the AMS intake to use as a template.

Totally. They said they didn't have any of that in stock but would order it up when I brought the AMS in.

Remember how my car started blowing smoke on the dyno shortly after overfilling the oil? Remember how last weekend I commented that my car felt so smooth that I was wondering if it had a boost leak?

Dave pointed me to a thread on the EvoX forum where two BBX's went down with those symptoms.

Time to look for a how-to on turbo swaps.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news (not for sure though, lol).

Link to said thread? Wonder if there's oiling problems or something....

Reading now...lomker your car doesn't smoke *that* bad though, does it? Prolly at least worth yanking the inlet and checking for shaft play/wheel damage.

Don't worry, it can get far worse (20g on my 2G):

If you're not getting boost, you have a major problem.

Posted over there, 2x BBX's bit the dust now yours, that makes me sad. Possibly from overfilling the oil that one time?

We'll have to find a way to bribe Anna, but we can sure rip it apart man.

Mine just blows puffs on pulls, not smoking at idle. I want to get a boost gauge on there this weekend and see if it is making boost. If it is then it's nbd yet. It just felt slow the last time that I drove it.

You just try to wiggle it? I'm not sure what is normal there.

That was certainly my assumption before I saw those other two had gone down from smoking. I got the first turbo so all three of them were probably from the same batch. I sent Chad a PM to give him a heads up. If I ship it in to be inspected then I'll prolly have him stuff a bigger wheel in there. ;)

I'm definitely going to be reaching out on this one. A turbo swap is one of those things that is too easy to pay someone to do and yet takes some time. I'm thinking it won't be too terrible with an aftermarket DP on there.

Don't you have a Tactrix 2.0 cable? Why not just log boost with EvoScan?

I'll take a look at it. I never have the car so I haven't had time to figure out how to use Evoscan.

Pretty much. It won't be perfectly immobile, but should be pretty close. If it's bad enough to be smoking, you'll reach in there and something will be blatantly not right.

Preferably stick your hand in there while the car is on, just to be sure :D

If you have that microSD card I gave you, I think I emailed you a copy of the config file to put on there? If not LMK, just toss it on there, plug it into the car, go drive, and then the logs will be right on that card for viewing. This will tell you right away most of the data you really want to know :D

Maybe this one gets fixed and we just put it on my car, then you buy a new one with bigger wheel outright? Just an idea :D Or better yet, buy the one with the bigger wheel, have it here for when we yank this one. Then send yours off to get fixed and I'll buy it from ya. :) Zero to little downtime for you.

Re: Evo X upgrades

LOL, now your talking crazy and I like it. Chad quoted me like $1285 for that bigger wheel one brand new. Pretty good deal :)
