Re: The Gun Thread
Just ordered an Arsenal SGL41 from K-Var
http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...heITqZfbANj5oQ .410 is a small shotty but it looks sweet and can throw 15 shots of 00 buck down a hallway in a hurry |
Re: The Gun Thread
I went to a gun range yesterday and was shooting my friends' guns. Kimber 45 semi-auto w/ laser sight, a 9mm semi-auto, and a 5-shot 45 revolver.
Time for me to start gun shopping...what's a nice basic handgun to get? I'll say it's for home protection. I like the idea of a semi-auto rather than a revolver. I'm not too sure what caliber I want...something Janelle can handle too. |

Anyone want to chime in on that note? You could get one of those 5-shot revolvers, "The judge" and shoot a bad guy with some .410 bird shot! Or a .45 slug. Or a .410 slug. |
Re: The Gun Thread
From my limited experience I would agree that a revolver would be a more reliable choice, thanks for mentioning that. The semi-autos jammed twice yesterday.
|
Re: The Gun Thread
Semi-Auto's can be extremely reliable and are far more capable than a revolver could ever hope to be.
Reliability has a lot to do with ammo choice (not using inferior rounds) and also basic maintenance on the weapon. Keep it clean and happy. Also do not buy a cheap semi-auto. Something brand name and known to be quality will be better. Also, a full size semi-auto in 9mm will have a clip that is 14+ rounds per clip, versus a punny 5 or 6 shots. As for a round that Janelle could handle, I would throw my hat into the 9mm ring for that one. Start slinging 14 9mm hollow points at an invader and tables will turn. Some good quality brands for a 9mm would be Glock, Springfield, or (i'll get crucified for this) a Baretta 92fs. If it military capable you know it is home defense capable. |
Re: The Gun Thread
I was looking at the Glock G17 and G19 earlier today.
|
Re: The Gun Thread
Both quality choices. If you don't plan to carry deff don't be afraid to keep on the full sized side of things like the G17. The accuracy is going to be much better.
As for a personal preference point here.. I'm not a fan of bobtail pistols with the safeties on the triggers vs a traditional lever selector. Makes me too nervous about an accidental fire. This is all the reason I bought my FNX .40 |
Re: The Gun Thread
Glocks feel like garbage to me when i shoot them.
My personal preference (from what i've shot) has been SIGs and HK. I've heard great things about Springfields XD line as well though. |
Re: The Gun Thread
The indoor range nearby has a lot of rental guns available so I'll have to go try a bunch out before picking one.

^^^^^ That thing looks like it can kill a T-Rex.

Re: The Gun Thread
I'd chime in for a Glock. I own a Glock, Smith, and Ruger and the Glock is by far my favorite. It has almost a revolver like simplicity and its reliable, I've never had a FTF or FTE. I've also spend some time behind the trigger of a xDm 9mm, wasnt my favorite due to the higher bore center but the interchangeable back straps were nice for shooters with smaller or larger than average hands.

Threw some Bulgarian furniture on my new shotgun. Wood is so much nicer than plastic

Re: The Gun Thread
I would love to have a revolver for a carry gun, some day I'll get around to getting that .357 snub I've been wanting since I took the class...
But, for home defense, nothing but a shotgun for this guy. |
Re: The Gun Thread
So many weapons...
I own: 12 gauge 30/30 aka a "dirty 30" semi-auto 22 over under, think its a 12 gauge and 22, have to look at it. I inheriated these when my father passed and they are all hunting weapons. I haven't shot them yet, plan on this summer up north. |

Re: The Gun Thread
I'm pretty sure I'm decided on a Springfield XDm now, but I'm torn on which caliber to get.
http://www.the-m-factor.com/html/specs_3.html I went to the gun shop/range yesterday to check them out, but the range was super busy so there was a 30 minute wait to try out their rentals so I didn't get to fire them, just handle them. |
Re: The Gun Thread
Go 40 for sure.

Re: The Gun Thread
Lets be honest, you're never going to shoot anyone with it (which is good!) so just go with the cheapest ammo to plink things at the range with (9mm)

ROLLING ON THE FLOOR LAUGHING! NO TOUCH NO PHOTO! Way to go! Funny!

Re: The Gun Thread
My dad has the XDm .40 and it shoots really nice, I like it a bit better than my regular XD .40. The adjustable grips and higher capacity magazine are nice upgrades from the standard version. I vote get the .40.

Re: The Gun Thread
XD's are great guns. The only things I don't like about them is that they are single action triggers with no true hammer block safety.
If you're not going to be carrying with one hot, it's not a big deal. http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._5477416_n.jpg Great pic, love me some RPK. The rest of his Eastern Block collection is quite nice too Is the mortor tube for sporting purposes? And Mike is correct, that is an RPG tube |
Re: The Gun Thread
That's what I thought it was. That's probably not legal to have, is it?

Re: The Gun Thread
The RPG peaked my interest.
An RPG tube is legal in the US with proper ATF paper work (class III) A deactivated one such as below requires no paperwork as it can never again be made to fire. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=218361428 |
Re: The Gun Thread

No idea if it would be considered a gun, but depending on what the range is on something like that, I would like to use it for deer hunting ! haha |
Re: The Gun Thread
Ok it's Friday, so I'm gonna lay some heavy shit on you. Scheides household has a new armament guarding it. Be wary all unauthorized intruders, lest ye be rained down fire from this new weapon of destruction!
http://www.scheides.com/albums/nerf/nerf3.sized.jpg That's right! Nerf CS-18 Alpha Trooper. Anna let me go to Target alone the other day and was making the list of things to get on my phone while we were in the car. "hrm....what else do we need?" She asked... my response, "windshield washer fluid, a nerf gun, and oh! Liquid Plumber! I used the last of it last weekend." To my surprise, when I was looking through the list at the list at the store, there it was. Nerf gun. Right above milk and right below windshield fluid. I bought 3 extra 18-packs of darts so I could empty 4 full clips before having to go pick them all up :) http://www.scheides.com/albums/nerf/nerf4.png After a few days of playing with it I thought to myself....there had to be a way to make this thing more powerful! So off to the internet I went, and let me tell you there are some serious nerf dorks out there. The youtube videos are LOLerskates, but a few show you how to remove some of the safety locks and increase the range/velocity of these things. So, I disassembled: http://www.scheides.com/albums/nerf/nerf1.sized.jpg CS-18 Mod list: -Removed 'safety' locks -sealed bore breach hole -increased air seal tension w/ teflon tape -shimmed main spring about 1/3-1/2" http://www.scheides.com/albums/nerf/nerf2.sized.jpg This thing is awesome now! Darts used to fly across my living room with a nice gentile arc...now they freaking rip across with a that nervous "I'm going toooo fasst!" twitch/jitter....it's awesome! Using 'slam fire' mode or whatever it's called, you can empty the 18-dart clip in about 12 seconds. The dogs still don't understand wtf is happening--I'm def putting this thing under my pillow for late-night robberies and in my bag on the cruise for late-night shenanigans. :) |
Re: The Gun Thread
LOL!!! Didn't realize you we're serious the other day when you mentioned this. This is awesome!
