Re: JET's 335Xi

Took it out for a spin last night and drove to work today. Spools is nearly the same even with the clipped turbine and it definitely holds power better up top. It still drops off some, but doesn't fall on its face like it used to. I haven't adjusted boost and logged yet, so power is basically the same as before except it holds pretty well up top. It makes sport mode MUCH more usable instead of using the paddle shifters all the time.

Pretty happy so far, but I think stage 2 might be perfect. I am still wanting it to pull harder to redline.

Woot! Sounds like you're getting closer to where you want it to be. I still need another ride. :)

3.0L wants a 62mm minimum or a 58mm with big exhaust housing. :D

There are some big singles out there with the N54. Not in my plans for this car. The biggest I would probably go is a BW EFR7163 in a twin scroll housing.

No immediate plans. I will try and make the next dyno day I hear about since you can't really tune it. Just looking for numbers.

Just got the JB4 app for my android phone, no more need for a laptop to log or change settings! Pretty awesome! I am making a custom map to run 20psi now. 20psi on a 10.2:1 compression engine on just E30 and a turbo WAY out of its efficiency range. Pretty crazy that it can do that!

That's neat!

Time for another dyno sesh?

Yeah, might see if they will buy out my warranty package. I am ready for a downpipe and that means goodbye warranty, but hello 20whp!

warranties are over rated.

Can't put a price on fun.

Re: JET's 335Xi

Yeah, 20psi is pretty awesome. I can't believe the personality of the car has changed so drastically for only $1300! I'll be having some runs against a B8 S4 with over $5k in to it in performance mods (APR stage 2.5) soon. We were damn close when I was on my pump gas tune at 14psi, but they were short runs. Found out he just started at my work and we are going to go play in the near future.

Re: JET's 335Xi

So I bought some snow tires from Top Shelf Tires in Ramsey and had them put them on. NEVER go there. The douche bags cracked my one wheel trying to get the run flats off and wouldn't do anything. I disputed the charges on my Visa and the guy flat out lied on his response. That didn't end up mattering though as Visa wouldn't do anything because the actual product I bought wasn't what was damaged. I was pretty pissed. They put a huge gouge in the one wheel too. I have new wheels on the way and had to get that one welded to work for now.

Anyway, pretty pumped for the new wheels to show up!

Wow, that sucks. After some bad experiences, the only tire places I'll use anymore are TireRack approved installers or dealerships; at least that way you know they're insured and have good equipment.

Yeah, my parents owned a small business and I like to give them my business if possible. They also had the tires in stock, but it really bit me in the ass this time.

Man that sucks, I know run flats can be hard (I have mounted a few sets myself) but to gouge and crack a wheel is impressive... then not to take care of you after doing it is even more impressive.

^is it worth the time and laywer fees to get a few hundred bucks?
Most likely, he would have to take vacation/PTO just to go to court and fight it out.

Not worth it IMO unless the car fell off a lift and had more damage.

I dunno, BMW wheels can be pretty expensive.. a few hundred might be a understatement.

Supporting small/local is great, and I think most of us try to support them when we can, but do your due diligence to make sure they are legit operations with insurance coverage, member of the BBB in good standing, Chamber of Commerce...something that points they're in business for the right reasons.

Re: JET's 335Xi

Run flats can be extremely difficult to mount/dismount, especially if they have a smaller sidewall. In some cases, a special tire mounting machine is needed to help.

Pat - Here is a sample of what OEM BMW wheels cost;

Light alloy rim. 8JX19 ET:37 - $548.25
Light alloy rim. 9JX19 ET:39 - $587.57

Or you could just order a full set, with all hardware necessary;

RDC Complete alloy wheel set summer. BMW PERFORMANCE - $4398.94

Couple hundred bucks, huh? ;)

They had a 4.2 rating on Google reviews, but evidently no one had a problem they had to try and fix. They had no complaints with the BBB. Maybe I should start one, that is easy and might scare him.

A new wheel is $334 from BMW. The gouge probably won't be worth a new wheel so I am thinking max I would get is ~$400 and it isn't worth it to take the time off work and all the messing around.

I got a set of much better looking wheels coming for $600. I had to get TPMS sensors also so I could get the free mounting and that was another $140. So instead of $650 for 4 new tires I am now out $1400.

With my wifes car, we just got new rims for the winter tires to go on. Maybe that would be an option? Sucks though man

Re: JET's 335Xi

Yep, I just ordered a set of 17x8 Niche Targa's with 225/45 General Altimax Arctic's on them. I am pretty pumped to get them but I won't have them for about 2 weeks.

Now I just hit a fucking deer on the way home tonight. Deer jumped out 20' in front of me when doing 45mph. The thing has amazing brakes and I damn near got stopped, but there is damage to the hood, bumper cover, grill and driver's fender. Damn thing was able to make it off after flopping around for a while so I didn't even get to keep the deer. :(

Wow that is some bad luck :( Hopefully you can get things all fixed up quickly! Those rims are sexy, why not put summer tires on those and rock the welded stockers with snow tires?

They are only 17's so they are for the winter tires. Stock is 18x8 and 18x9, but I am going 19x9 and 19x10 I think this summer. I am looking at doing a M3 front end conversion now, then I can go 19x10 all the way around and do these bad ass wheels!

Those are some sweet concave wheels. I also like the look of the extended studs with open ended lugs, for that race car look.

turbotalon1g 01-10-2015 11:47 AM

Re: JET's 335Xi

^Agreed.!!

JET 01-15-2015 07:02 PM

Re: JET's 335Xi

Well I just got my estimate from hitting the deer and it came in much higher than expected, bonus! So I am pretty positive I am doing an M3 conversion to the front end. That should be around $4k in parts and I am getting $6,300 from insurance. I am tempted to do the rear M3 quarters too (they are just a little wider on the sedan) and give it a all new paint job with just a little more flair.

Cobb AP is probably coming very soon for a back end flash to stack with the JB4 tune. It looks like I am going a little farther with this car than I expected, but it is going to be awesome!

So the coupes look pretty goofy if you do the M3 front end conversion as the coupes have a narrower rear end than the sedan. The M3 sedan is not much wider than a regular 335i sedan. Here is a pic of a 335i with M3 front end conversion like I am planning.

Re: JET's 335Xi

What is the process to redue the quarter panels? Is it just a skin or cut the whole rear quarter out?

A//// Guy 01-15-2015 09:17 PM

Re: JET's 335Xi

Seems like a lot of work to do everything, id just do the front end. The M3 styling is so subtle these days that its almost barely noticeable imo.

JET 01-16-2015 01:02 AM

Re: JET's 335Xi

The 1/4 panel isn't too horrible to remove, it doesn't appear to be welded much. I ran the numbers tonight at it looks like my $4k number is damn close. I agree Peter, I think I am just doing the front end. It is another $1,700 in parts for the rear end. Time for more major mods now! FMIC and DP just arrived today. Yes they use stupid thick FMIC's, this is 6" tall and 7" thick, 2.5" in/out. 3.5" DP too, catless of course.
