So I met up with Kracka at the powercoating dude's shop and checked out the candy blue that Kracka recommended. It looks REALLY nice even under the shop lights. Couldn't really see it in the daylight...because there was none! Stupid Daylight's Saving Time. Regardless, I have to agree with Kracka when he said that in direct sunlight, that candy blue is going to shine so well and give a nice spectrum of blues. It's going to look awesome! I can't wait to rip apart the piping. Hopefully I can tackle that in 2 weeks!

Re: Deadmau5X: MOAR Mods 'N Stuff

Update Time!!

So I finally got around to installing my Whiteline Rear Swaybar. It was pretty easy to install except for the fact that I didn't install it.

I had a problem getting one of the bushings and saddles to line up properly and no matter what I tried, they would not line up. After 45 minutes of trying, I gave up and put the stock one back on.

I then told Kracka about it and he kindly went out to his car and took some pictures of his Whiteline bar and sent them to me. Everything fit nicely and looked good. So the next day I decided to try again after seeing his pictures. I knew exactly how to orient the bar and everything. Yeah well no such luck. I had the exact same issue. So I was even more pissed off and irritated because now I had failed for a 2nd time. It should only be like a 20 min job at most...but not for me.

I reported back to Kracka and he didn't believe me. I told him I quit on it and didn't want to put a rear swaybar on anymore. I was sick of it. He told me to come over on Tuesday night and he would get it on there for me. So I said sure, obviously my noob self can't put it on and he has the EXACT same bar so why not.

Come Tuesday, I go over and we start doing the swaybar. We get to the point where I was having trouble and he looks at it and goes "Hmm." He tried for a bit to make it fit. Pushed it over to get more room. Wiggled it to make it sit better. Nope! Wasn't going on. The only way it would fit is if the bushing was all open looking and on the bend on the bar. If we could even tighten it down like that, I'm sure the bushing would have snapped in half in a day easily. So we put the stock bar back on.

I managed to take pictures when I tried putting it on the 2nd time. I ended up sending those to Bill @ MAP and he forwarded on my email to Whiteline. They are going to send me a new swaybar and it should be here on Monday (12/6/10). So I'm all happy again.

Well I get an email from Bill yesterday saying that Whiteline sent him an email. As my luck would have it, the swaybar they already sent me is ALSO defective for some reason. So now when that one arrives, I will have to put the old one I have into that box and have BOTH of them shipped back to Whiteline. What a complete disaster this has turned into...

So after emailing with Bill @ MAP, I looked at their other swaybars and decided to go with a 25mm Perrin instead. After doing some research I found the following:

Whiteline:
Soft setting - 148%
Medium setting - 181%
Hard setting - 220%

Perrin:
Soft setting - 127%
Medium setting - 153%
Hard setting - 186%

Kracka tells me that for his driving style, the Whiteline Medium setting is perfect. Given my driving habits, I would probably have chosen the Whiteline Soft. I may do the Medium, but I would never go with the Hard setting. Given the numbers above, the Perrin bar gives me a better offering than the Whiteline bar as I'm more likely to use all those settings. The max for the Perrin is the Medium of the Whiteline, which would be my max. So the Perrin bar seems to be a better fit for me and my driving style and it does offer a slightly softer setting than the Whiteline.

So I told Bill to quote me the difference and it was a done deal. I should be getting it this coming week and I'll be installing it on the weekend. Hopefully nothing retarded stupid is wrong with this one.

Also today, I rode in Kracka's X as we went to Cobb to pick something up. During the drive he asked me how I liked the Prokits. I turn to him and say "I haven't put them on yet. You should know that." He looks at me and says "My car has the Prokits remember?"

OHHHHHHHHH! Yeah I had a total noob moment there. If he had not said anything, I would not have even remembered that his car has Prokits. I guess that's a good thing because I didn't notice any difference on the drive. They seem to be a LITTLE bit softer but not a whole lot so I think they are going to be perfect for me. :)

I have the Perrin bar on medium. Haven't felt a need to adjust it.

I will most likely run the Perrin on Medium as well as that's the rating I would have run on the Whiteline. :)

Perrin on Meduim is what I run for AutoX, if you run the Perrin on hard setting, the car feels a bit to loose to be fast on the course (this is with the stock suspension). The hard setting does make for some rather fun drift action, Yo! ;P

Whoah , swaybar drama! They're a PITA like anything else, I'm with you on the '...except for me' stuff, as stuff always seems to happen. Never had a swaybar not fit though, that is def a first!

Also, I think your car should be 'DeadmauX' (pronounce it dead moux or whatever), seeing 'Deadmau5X' always throws me into 'dead mau 5 X and that is just blargypoo.

Re: Deadmau5X: MOAR Mods 'N Stuff

UPDATE!

So UPS delivered the defective Whiteline rear sway bar yesterday. I took the 1st one out of my trunk, opened up the box I got, and stuck it in there so they could come back and pick it up today. As it turns out, they delivered my Perrin rear sway bar today AND picked up the return package! Awfully nice of them. :)

So I open up the Perrin and it looks great. Nice, red, and shiny. So I open up the bushing and saddle kit and process to assemble it to see how it will all look. Check it out below!

This looks nice!

But at least this side looks good!

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5246/...e8b8ce0e_b.jpg

There is no way I'm even going to try and put this bar on. If that one side doesn't even let the bushing sit flush with me just putting it on there and moving it to hit the stopper tab, there's no way it's going to fit properly on the car. It looks like that stopper was welded on at an angle, thus not allowing the bushing to sit flush. *sigh*

Looks like another email is going out to Bill at MAP with pictures showing that this one is not going to fit either. Now I know I haven't tried putting it on, but honestly with pictures and fitment looking like that, I really don't think I should even waste time trying to put it on.

You guys running the Perrin RSB on the X, did yours fit or look like this? Do you remember at all? Should I at least try to put it on once before I write Bill back?

Thoughts and comments please? :(

Re: Deadmau5X: MOAR Mods 'N Stuff

Just put it on, not like a ton of torque is going to be put against that stopper. I bet you'll forget about it once its on and you drive the car :)

simulatedwood 12-07-2010 10:00 PM

Re: Deadmau5X: MOAR Mods 'N Stuff

Mine must have been an older version as it didnt even have the stops welded on each side. Honestly when you bolt this thing down the one side will straighten out I bet you wont even notice its static state. The bar will move a bit side to side, so the tightness may not matter much. I say try it at least.
:)

I would just elongate the holes in that bushing holder with a dremel until it bolts up. Screw quality parts that fit right away. Working for the prize is so much more enjoyable.

I vote we at least try installing it. Wouldn't hurt to shoot these pictures to Perrin though and see what they have to say about it.

Re: Deadmau5X: MOAR Mods 'N Stuff

I bet it was designed that way. Bushings on the bar without even attaching it, arent going to line up perfect the way you think it willl. The car will suck the bushing into place if its supposed to be up against that flat side.

Most sway bars dont even have that welded flat side on the bar at all.

Kracka 12-11-2010 11:22 AM

Re: Deadmau5X: MOAR Mods 'N Stuff

We got it on last night followed up by some ghetto Mexican tacos :D

Fitment was ultra close, had that anti-walk tab been any further off there is no way the bar would have fit. It just barely fit, but it did end up fitting nearly perfectly with a little force. The driver's side bushing is jammed up against the tab, but the passenger side is nearly 1/2" away; if they're not going to be positioned properly they might as well just leave them off since it would have made installation much smoother.

From a few texts late last night it sounds like Armando is happy! He mentioned being able to carry extra speed into a corner he regularly takes. For those who care, we put it on the medium setting which is roughly equivalent to the Whiteline soft setting. Another thing, I was shocked at how much lighter the Perrin bar is compared to the Whiteline!

Re: Deadmau5X: MOAR Mods 'N Stuff

So, with it not fitting right, is the bushing sqaushed in there? Whats gonna stop it from eating bushings like your whiteline did?

Kracka 12-11-2010 11:32 AM

Re: Deadmau5X: MOAR Mods 'N Stuff

It actually squashed in nearly perfectly, it just took a lot of force to get it there. I will be shocked if this ever needs to come apart. I'm sure Armando will get under there and snap a few pics in the daylight.

My Whiteline bushing damage was a separate issue related to reusing the stock saddles; Whiteline has since sent me revised saddles and the correct bushings.

That's correct. I wanted to take some pictures of it installed before I update. I've been running errands this morning and am just about to put up the Christmas lights, so once I get some time either today or tomorrow, I'll get under there, take some pics, and update everyone. :)

Re: Deadmau5X: MOAR Mods 'N Stuff

So here are the pictures as promised. So I am glad that it fit and the bushings actually closed properly. As Kracka said, if that stopper tab had been any closer to the bend, the bar would not have fit and that bushing would have been all jacked up. I'm still not too thrilled at how it was made, but after putting it on and seeing how it fit, it's good enough to where I don't want to go through the hassle of getting a 4th sway bar.

Whatever it takes to use our cars daily rather than let them sit in pieces for weeks/months ;)

End of the day, Perrin just needs to stop welding anti-walk tabs to the bar if they can't do it accurately. They don't have any real-world benefit anyway.

That's my lube and there's plenty more of it to go around. ;)

The grease that came with the Perrin sway bar is Energy Suspension Formula 5 Prelube. It doesn't feel like the grease that came with the Whiteline bar nor the grease Hughes and I have. This stuff feels like thick maple syrup.

Re: Deadmau5X: MOAR Mods 'N Stuff

So Hughes and I finally got around to doing the fluids on my car. We did the tranny, xfer case, and rear diff. None of the fluids looked bad really for 33k miles without a single change. Not a lot of metal shavings to be honest and I think the xfer case fluid still looked a bit red. Not too hard of a job to change them all. I'd say the hardest one to fill was the xfer case just because you couldn't really see if it was dripping out of the fill hole due to the location. Overall a pretty easy job. Fluids used were as follows:

Transmission: Redline Cocktail (2x MTL, 1x MT-90)
Transfer Case: Diaqueen 90W LSD
Rear Differential: Diamond ATF SP III + Diaqueen 90W LSD (rear diff takes 2 fluids. 2 different compartments for each)

I've been driving around for a week or so now with the new tranny fluid and OMG. The difference between the Redline mix and the OEM stuff is night and day. I really love how smooth each shift feels now.

I also picked up a Cobb downpipe from a fellow NTEC member down here for pretty cheap and in good shape. So we should be able to run a test and see what a full 3" shorty downpipe does without the o2 housing being changed. I'm still optimistic about it but if it ends up doing nothing, I'm content with losing what I spent for it. :)

Also got a MitsuStyle sticker from Hughes today! I got the standard white lettering with red mitsu symbol. Thanks to Scheides for bringing those down to Vegas and handing them off to Hughes!

Re: Deadmau5X: MOAR Mods 'N Stuff

Ah I knew I forgot something.

Back when Hughes helped me install my Perrin RSB, he told me he heard an exhaust leak. I didn't look into it right away. A couple weeks ago I noticed that my wideband started reading weird when the car was idle and eventually threw a "Service Engine Soon" code, P0171, which is "System Too Lean". On first research, it looked like it might be a MAF scaling issue as nothing had changed on the car since I got tuned back in early November. Well I emailed back and forth with Cobb on the issue and eventually told them I was going to bring it in (since I got off work early one day due to holiday). As soon as they pulled it into the shop, I heard the exhaust leak and was "OMG...". It sounded pretty bad from outside the car. You couldn't really hear it that well from inside the car, even with the windows down. So Calvin checks out the vac lines in the engine bay and all looks good. He goes to check the exhaust leak and tells me that's what the issue is. Since I have my wideband tapped into the downpipe near the stock o2 sensor, the leak (at idle) is causing enough of an issue to where the car would read a false lean condition. So the manager at Cobb gave me a gasket and all was good. They didn't charge me a single thing! Nice guys at Cobb. :)

So I go to change the gasket and this is what I took off the car (note: I'm actually holding it upside down):

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5002/...ffda1fc0_b.jpg

That would be kind of a problem!

So I put in the new gasket and fire up the car. IMMEDIATELY sounds WAY better and my wideband also IMMEDIATELY starts reading back to what I used to see. Just goes to show how something so small might cause issues elsewhere. If I didn't have my wideband tapped into the downpipe right next to the stock o2 sensor, I probably wouldn't have known the readings were getting thrown off. Lesson learned!

PPI ported exhaust manifolds came in Friday. Really really nice job done on them. Very happy with how they look. Took them to SPC with Kracka to get them ceramic coated. Should be done by the end of the week hopefully! Here's a link to my before pictures of the manifolds. Enjoy!

Wayne @ PPI is a great guy, his portwork is very nice for the money. It's not as sexy as Bob @ MAP's, but it's also less than half the price even when you select his "extreme" option.

Yes we did. There wasn't a part of the manifold that wasn't ported. Runners were done all the way. Hopefully the pictures I took reflect that. It was hard enough trying to get the flash and focus of my camera to get in there, but I think I got enough of it to show. :)
