Video of the car doing a pull, this is lower boost so it doesn't sound as cool, I'll try to get a video of that tonight.

Thanks/Credits are added to post #1 I just want to say thanks for everyone's support and kind thoughts and the few (or many I don't know) who had faith that I could pull this off, I was iffy myself.

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer

I "broke" it tonight, twice.

Not realizing that the pennies to prevent the pedal from traveling past 100% had been removed, I pushed it to the floor and put the car in limp mode, oops. So what did I do after Shawn fixed it? The same thing again, of course.

And then the recirc tube popped off again.

Despite the bugs still being worked out, the car's a rip.

car must pull pretty awesome man. driving my cousin's gc8 was very fun! :D putting e85 in it was different lol.

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer

Actually you just cram your foot down and it fucked up my temporary solution... twice :)

The recirc pipe is now fixed, the car is in limp mode though. I'll be clearing the CEL tomorrow and hopefully fixing that.

I demand more full body shot pictures! And please don't go speaking the "stage" language like the suby owners that I know.

Awesome, but it's far too plain to be a modified Subaru in Minnesota. You need mud flaps and ridiculous colored wheels right meow. Until then you're just a poser. :)

Don't forget the roof rack, the giant ass light bar like you are doing stage rallies every weekend, and the sideways/flatbilled hat. :D

^ I think you mean this car demands more lime-green ken block style! Might as well throw a ford emblem on it for good measure :D

Congratz however on completeing your swap though shawn.

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer

I'll get some more body shot pictures, the body is in pretty rough shape right now. I have many different directions I want to take with the project. Some of them even require a new chassis.

I'm SORT OF thinking about a 22B body kit, but would require some body work help to prep it which would be a PITA I think, but all the rusty parts would be replaced with the new kit and make keeping this chassis ok. To be honest a 22B is my ultimate goal and so far the only thing missing is the body. The kit would probably take a good weekend or so to install and prep and someone who knows what their doing.

http://www.subarukits.com/22b_body_kit_4.html <- that's the kit I'm thinking about.

Now that the car is done as far as everything else I would like to make it NOT look like a giant turbo turd driving down the road.

On tap for this weekend is a full day of work of final tweaks
1.) My car is leaking oil somewhere, I believe it's the return line from the turbo.
2.) Fix gas pedal with a permanent solution.
3.) Raise my FMIC 1" and get bumper and lights fully installed
4.) Tie down the battery
5.) Check axel nuts
6.) Compression test on all cylinders
7.) Move Steering wheel one notch CCW
8.) Side skirts back on
9.) Final check on all components

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer

22B = SEXY! Do it. It's the only kit I approve on the Impreza your year.

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer

Well I made all the tweaks to my car yesterday and decided to run Spaz on a T&C to up around 110MPH. Needless to say my car already broke, LOL.

I am not entirely sure what the issue is but it makes a thudding feeling through the drivetrain (in neutral even) at about 5MPH-45MPH and at highway speed it makes a rattling/bearing type of noise. I've narrowed it down to the PS front wheel. I would THINK this is a wheel bearing, they go out a lot on the '04 hubs, but I don't understand the thudding and it doesn't change pitch/tone/decibel when making a turn.

I'm somewhat afraid my STi transmission is dead, I'll need someone to drive it on the road while I sit in the passenger seat and listen =/

We just got pulled over while Shane was helping me test my car, FML. The cop gave Shane a speeding ticket for doing 76 in a 55 without clocking us (my detector didn't go off). The weird thing about that? It's 1 mile an hour into the more expensive ticket zone.

The best part... I didn't get to hear the car make the noise.

I would be bringing that to court. Too bad Shane wouldn't have time to do it though I'm sure.

Yeah, but it is a little extra insurance against last night. You guys didn't tell the officer the speedo didn't work, did you?

On a side note, if you want, I can play wheelman for a bit after work tonight.

I don't think officers let you off for the whole speedo not working thing :)

I plan to try using that one on the first cop that pulls me over in my beater though..

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer

So I just picked up my new CV Joint at Orry.

A little background for those that didn't read that post. I have NEW but cheap Ebay aftermarket CV Joints on the front. The tab on the INNER joint broke off and it puked 80-90% of it's grease all over the place leaving little to none left in the boot. I clamped the boot back down and now it knocks. That all happened about the same time. So hopefully that's it :(

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer

Well I swapped it out and was holding it on the output shaft of the tranny with two zip ties, JDM SONNNNN!!!! And it helped it a bit but was still getting a "thudding". Today I took it home and was like FUCK THIS and found the old pin and put it in. The holes didn't line up 100% so I didn't think it would go in, but I just beat the piss out of it with a hammer and my man muscle and it went in.

The car is now working fine, I think the thudding is still there? But it comes and goes and it's much lighter so it's to the point to where I can't tell if it's the road or not which means it's fixed in my head.

Did some other shit the past few days.
1.) Got my shift knob on, no more stick stabbing me in the hand when I shift.
2.) Got my sway bar brackets FINALLY and put my STi sway bar on
3.) Tonight I put in my wheel liner to protect my car from waterz

Added this to the original post but wanted to also put it here. Shane @ DB sent this to me, thanks BTW! A good comparison to how amazing my Evo is for sure, but the low end torque is so hawt on the Suby. Except when it's remotely wet out... this winter is gonna be scary.

Re: Project GC8 AKA USDM STi Killer

I wasn't going to post anything, because at this point... it's just fucking retarded and funny. But at this point I'm done, as of 30 minutes ago I more or less confirmed I have a major blown head gasget. As in coolant was spewing out of my DS head area and my car was overheating to 217F if sitting for a bit.

This has been the worst year in cars I've ever had and I've had some pretty bad ones. I can't work on my cars anymore because of the cold garage, I guess I'm taking the bus to work this winter.

/end fucking rant

:( Don't know what to say, that just ultra-blows. Maybe sell some parts off it to get the Evo back on the road and attack the Subaru come spring?
