Re: beaterX project thread
Very true...at least you have an evo that runs though...maybe not super fast but still fast :)
I wanna see your interior sometime, maybe that will be a mod i end up doing...my interior needs some lovin eventually. Quote:

Re: beaterX project thread
Schiedes have you seen this
http://www.maperformance.com/images/...0-EvoX-kit.jpg That manifold adapter with the external WG provision looks pretty slick i thought. I would assume its a t3 adaptor that bolts to the stock manifold. If you could get that separate from the rest of the kit you would have an endless turbo selection. |
Re: beaterX project thread
That is the HKS kit...it is ridiculously pricey...like 5500 list, probably can be had for just under 5k, but HB speed did make 560whp or something on it...and said it will make 650whp if pushed.

Re: beaterX project thread
Yea but i'm not saying buy the kit, just that one piece!

This kit also requires transfer case modifications, lol. It is cool no doubt, but would still be a bit of work. |
Re: beaterX project thread
Stockframe turbos FTW!

Re: beaterX project thread
Neato on that 3240 kit, I didn't realize it used a t3 turbo on it. Still, I've done the adapter thing with my hahn super 20g and I don't think I want to go down that road again. Stock frame turbos are dandy, great spool and good power. If I really want a hta86 turbo, I'll just have to talk robert into making me one w/ a stock center secton and turbine housing. :)

Re: beaterX project thread
Got this thing on the rollers tonight. Not the 300whp I was really hoping for, but meh, with my luck and how solid the tune is, I'm happy. Shane says it's really in line with other cars similarly modded, and I believe it. Good solid fun power on the stock turbo. 278whp/287wtq.
AFR curve sooooo flat, thanks shane! http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/..._afr.sized.jpg 25psi@3000rpm, thanks mivec! :D http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/...oost.sized.jpg 280wtq@3500rpm, yippee! http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/...tune.sized.jpg Here's 4 runs overlayed. The Black line is NOT MINE, but another car shane had pulled up with similar mods. I'm a little short of it, but again, meh. Upper red line is current tune, green line is shanes 5-minute tune when I was on the test drive, and the lower red line is the car as it rolled off of the dealer's lot with the old catback, mbc, uicp, and random fmic. http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/...rlay.sized.jpg A few notes: -the perrin intake tube didn't lean the car out at all -the aFe intake did lean out the car about half a point between 4000-5500 -peak timing is a bit down from your average X, maybe I'll get some better fuel in it some day and pick up that 15-20whp. -my LC-1 wideband is within .2 AFR of DB's, good enough for me! I started geting a CEL the other day, turns out it was a rear o2 code...I didn't get it for like two weeks after not running a rear o2 (at all) and it came on the day I fixed the line to the FPR. Weird. There was one DTC I had left enabled, disabling seems to have gotten rid of the CEL now. So, no rear o2, no CEL's, yay! I'm sorta at a loss as to what to do with the car next. BBX, Ported Exh Mani, and o2 housing/downpipe is what I'd like to do, but there's other things I'd like to do...sunroof, bodywork, etc. Budget is now getting very very tight. I'm pretty sure I'm just going to keep the car as-is powerwise for a while and just rock it. It's good clean fun and should be enough to keep me smilin for a while :D |
Re: beaterX project thread
Lookin good. Those are some solid gains over what it made when you picked it up.

Re: beaterX project thread
very nice

Re: beaterX project thread
This car really does impress me. It feels really good thru the gears. Im glad you like it scheides!

Re: beaterX project thread
So, more fun issues? I had a roadside consultation yesterday. Tint = 16% front, 18% back...oops :) He also informed me that my registration is goofy, and the plates I got from the dealer have no year on them! On the left they say JAN, on the right they say MAR, but I bought the car on april 30th, and it was registered well into MAY? I'll be calling the dealer about this monday, fucking idiots.
Got a video of the car on the dyno yesterday, I'm really happy with how it sounds now, the aFe intake really makes this a turbo car :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oL-iWsi2T4&hd=1 |
Re: beaterX project thread
Looking good! Sorry I wasn't able help stick around and see this or help the others out!
I vote for get some cosmetic mods and rock it out for awhile! |
Re: beaterX project thread
Looking great Scheides! That is awesome news that the Perrin inlet tube and AFE intake didn't have much affect on the AFR's. Sounds good in that video too :)

Re: beaterX project thread
Those are great gains from when you picked it up.
We are sorry we didn't stay longer, but on a good note we did leave to get another DSM on the road. |
Re: beaterX project thread
Anna was immersed in a book last night after we got back from Wagner's. I had a rom to test for a certain someone so I spent a bit copying tables over and then went out to the garage to load it on the car. I decided I should yank the front motor mount quick. I talked to AMS about getting a softer mount insert, and they suggested drilling some holes in the existing one (which is what I was considering in the first place). Six 3/8" holes:
Five minutes after jacking the car up, I had this: http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/IMG_1299.sized.jpg Upon further review, I think I'm going to enlarge the top/bottom holes to 1/2", and add another 3/8" hole on either side f/r, for a total of 6x 3/8" holes and 2x 1/2" holes. This should provide plenty of stiffness over the stock bushing, but not rattle my head when idling. Also, while I was on the ground, I happened to look up, at the bottom of the FMIC core, and look what I saw: http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/IMG_1300.sized.jpg So, the FMIC is actually a Garrett/PTE core. 051-1124, specs are: 3" x 18" x 12" Just nice to know exactly what I have now, instead of guessing. The ROM checked out so watch for a post from our friend Tephra soon :) I will be pulling off the trunklid tonight and dropping it off tomorrow to have the holes filled! The rest of the car goes in for PDR, fill the nasty fender gash, paint, and detailing next week. Yay! |

Does the Knock CEL really stand out? I wonder if it would've saved mine ;)

Re: beaterX project thread
Ok weekly update. I pulled the car apart (forgot to take a pic it looked funny for a few days!), took the trunk off and some stuff under the hood. Small but good stuff.
Some GOOD friends I have at LaMettry's in EP took my trunk lid filled the holes from the wing, removed the badges, and cleaned up the massive screwdriver marks from whatever retard tried to remove the old 'evolution' badge. Then it got painted and cleaned up, and I installed it back on my car before wagner's tonight. While it was off, I pulled my Mynes hood struts and my janky (but functional) UICP and ran it over to Primo Performance for powdercoating. They did a nice glossy black on the hood damper mounts, and a crinkle black on the UICP. No polished bling on this car, nice and simple :) http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/IMG_2775.sized.jpg http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/IMG_2790.sized.jpg http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/IMG_2791.sized.jpg http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/IMG_2784.sized.jpg http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/IMG_2785.sized.jpg http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/IMG_2786.sized.jpg http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/IMG_2787.sized.jpg You can still see the big ding in the passenger quarter panel. That's getting taken care of next, then PDR, then buffing/detailing. It HURTS to spend the money on this and not making the car faster, but goddamn its starting to look good (IMHO). While the car was sitting, I dinked with the coilovers a bit and decided I hate them, I cannot adjust them at all, the clicky things on top are missing. PB Blaster on top to keep them lubricated, that's about all I can do for now. I also yanked out the motor mount again and added two holes, and enlarged two holes from 3/8" to 1/2". I'm pretty happy with where it's at now, but some good time at traffic lights with the a/c running will be the real test. http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/...ount.sized.jpg |
Re: beaterX project thread
That trunk lid looks nice. I wouldn't mess with the body anymore personally unless it chipped the paint and is rusting. The wheels man. Space those suckers out!

Re: beaterX project thread

Wheel spacers. Meh. The car handles fine as-is :) |
Re: beaterX project thread
I like that UICP a lot man, wrinkle black FTW. I really didnt think it was janky before, it had some pretty damn nice welds on it.
Also, that trunk looks great, I love the direction you are going with this car! |
Re: beaterX project thread
Chrome the wheel look a lot better in person, the pics dont do justice this car is just so subtle its a lot more scheides style IMO
