They're HKS for sure (look at them closely and you'll see the logo) and I believe Matt looked up the part # and learned they're 264's. He thought he was buying HKS 280's.

Re: My Evo

The colored cams are GSC and the others are HKS. GSC S2s and HKS mystery cams. One HKS cam (intake?) has the exact part number of a 264, but the other has no reference.

Re: My Evo

I wish I could have taken video of the look on Matt's face last night when we fired it up! This car is definitely transformed from a mild-mannered evo to a nasty mean and manly machine! The cams sound absolutely epic at idle, and the motor free revs quite aggressively. I spent a few minutes getting it to idle (sorta) and we did a quick bit of logging, but the car kept blowing couplers on the side of the road (stock UICP and crap clamps) so ....we were both absolutely toast from a long two days (helped Mark move on Thursday, gahhh!) so we just called it a night. Still need to put in his 850's, then back to shane before the cruise.

Thanks spaz for the motivation to hurry up and finish...whether it was because you helped turn a few wrenches or because I wanted you to stfu about your cars, I'm not sure! LOL!

Good times, we ran into no probs aside from the coupler thing.....I'll let Matt share his thoughts.

Dizzle get some good clamps on that beast!

Wow, I'm alive. Definitely an exhausting 2 days between working on the car and helping Mark and Ali move.

During the drive home the car idled fine when I came to a stop so who knows what was going on there. Need to get an intercooler pipe kit ordered and a small battery kit, install the bigger injectors then it's ready for the dyno. Already have time planned with Shane on Tuesday 4/12.

Thanks to scheides for taking time out of his life to help out with this, and even bigger thanks to Anna for putting up with it all and letting me use her car to run around and pick up parts.

Re: My Evo

Ya dude I say get some tbolt clamps (from napa or wherever) for now and then worry about piping later. No need to stress about the hoses blowing off, you should be able to flog on it endlessly w/o that being a concern.

There's always a big list of stuff to want, but I think with a bit more maintenance and little stuff you'll have a solid setup to rock teh cones!

Did you hit the rev limiter yet? :)

No, I don't want to blow a hose off. :) I've just been taking the longest routes everywhere with the most amount of stoplights so I can hear it idle.

Revving under bridges with the windows rolled down? Yeah, I use to have a motorcycle with a D&D exhaust. Sweet.

NAPA is still open, go get $15 worth of t-bolt clamps so we can properly log this thing tomorrow!

Too late. Didn't even think about this, was out running errands all afternoon.

Of all the videos on Youtube of an Evo idling with GSC S2s nothing compares to hearing it in person.

Here's the best video I've found.

Nice. I can't wait to get cams in the 240. I got used to the HKS 272 lope, and the stock 240 cams idle way too smoothly.

Re: My Evo

I swear I'm smelling coolant but I can't see it leaking from anywhere. If anything it's from the thermostat housing or one of the hoses back there.

Kracka 04-04-2010 07:33 PM

Re: My Evo

Excess coolant that spilled when removing the head? After I fixed my coolant leak I could smell it burning off for the next few days.

Oh, that makes sense. I'll give it a few days and see what happens.

Impulse buys ftw! I think all my major car mod purchases have happened between the 11pm and 4am.

It'll be interesting to see how much power it makes once its back on the dyno. Good job getting it done so quickly!

Yeah, Scheides and his wife were able to help out, our schedules worked out and we got it done. It feels good on the road even though it smells pretty rich, a quick log said 90% IDC so we'll put in the Injector Clinic 850s this week and get them dialed in roughly. I'm looking forward to seeing what it does.

Just check the overflow and radiator fluid level every few days, I'm sure that's just overflow/spillage you are smelling.

I didn't smell anything last night or this morning, so I'm guessing that it's passed.

New alignment is pretty much the same as the old alignment, just slightly less aggressive.

Matt D. 04-14-2010 05:22 PM

Re: Teh Dizzevo

After getting the new head installed I picked up a Nisei intercooler piping kit, small battery with Muse battery tray and an ETS 3.5" intercooler. Unfortunately the intercooler didn't ship until just before my dyno time so it will have to be put on later.

http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/777/img0839c.jpg

A recap of everything that was been changed before hitting the dyno:
MAP Stage 3 head with GSC beehive valve springs
MAP rev2 intake manifold with phenolic spacer
MAP ported exhaust manifold
GSC S2 cams
Nisei intercooler piping

Prior to this my car made 267hp/256tq at DB in the fall of 2009 which is when we discovered the leaky exhaust valves and I proceeded to have a head built.

Shane worked his magic and this is where we ended up after my dyno session on Tuesday 4/13.

http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/6120/hptq.jpg
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/8072/hpboost.jpg
http://img532.imageshack.us/img532/6112/hpafr.jpg
http://img61.imageshack.us/img61/4554/shootoutn.jpg

I'll have to get Shane to do an overlay of my old graph versus the new one.

Anyway, it is what it is. Boost comes on really strong and it feels great through the midrange. Right now we're thinking the janky POS intercooler that's on there now is an issue which will be replaced as soon as the new ETS intercooler arrives. We also have no solid reason for the dip in power around 7200, I have my theories but am doing research before I lay claim to anything. I'm just not revving that high until I figure out what's going on. It wasn't there until I did all this work.

Dyno day in a few weeks, have the intercooler on, maybe a new intake pipe and see what it does then.

Kracka 04-14-2010 05:25 PM

Re: Teh Dizzevo

That RMR one that was on there when I bought the car. I've been eyeing one of those Samco ones, or something like the Buschur one where the filter sticks up at an angle.

sweet, i wonder what a E316G DSM would do on pump.

Well hopefully the new big cooler fixes your issues/give u more power.

I remember why I was wondering about a pump E3 car, because everyone uses E85, why haven't u made the switch, you would damn near make 100whp more.
