Re: My Talon

I picked up my TurboX coated parts from Bob at Map today. I went over to the car and put some of it on. I realized I'm gonna have to cut a lot more off my downpipe than I thought, and I need to chop part of my compressor cover outlet off and weld on a 90 elbow.

The drain is gonna be kinda funky. I might need two 45 degree -10 fittings to get it to work right.

I also need some more 02 housing bolts, I should most likely order new turbo bolts and lock washers from mitsu.

I have to fab up my 4" intake, v band downpipe, a oil drain, install cams and new OFH and oil cooler, and set up Link!

Hurry up, get this shit done. You and chris are probably gonna be done around the same time. Oh ya, Kara texted me something pretty funny about your ride home last night.

I just finished polishing my compressor cover, for my first time polishing, and how lazy I was, it turned out pretty good. LOL those aren't my candles either.

I also got my lower intercooler pipe set up for the Holset, and re powdercoated at Primo.

Should be getting my pushlock drain tube any day (I hope!)

And so I just need to spend some time with the car and get it all buttoned up!

Re: My Talon

Cams are in. Just need my oil drain so I can spend the 30 mins bolting the turbo and o2 up.

Chop flange off downpipe, TIG vband on, thats pretty much it.

Re: My Talon

Ok, so whenever the hell it warms up a bit, (tomorrow/sunday) I'm gonna go put my o2 housing/wastegate on, and hopefully start my downpipe modding. I also need to tighten a few fittings on my oil filter housing. Pics soon.

Re: My Talon

Rad in, drain tube made, downpipe is hopefully gonna be welded today. Just need to hook up a gauge, clutch wire and maybe wideband for Link, and setup Link. :) Ooo and drain my tank lol.

Re: My Talon

Do you run the stock turbo water pipe? If so, did you run into any issues with the compressor cover hitting the little water pipe nub on the bottom of it (the nub that isn't on the N/T ones)?

Making some great progress Kevin, nice job! That compressor cover looks pretty sick also.

I swapped to a 90 N/T thermostat housing and 90 N/T waterpipe (I added an external oil cooler). I had to dent the water pipe a little to clear the compressor cover, but it was just a little bit.

Hahaha, stock 6 bolt :) Well, it's fresh stock rebuild by me. It has like 15k miles on it so far. ACL Race bearings, ARP headstuds, Copper-sprayed mitsu gasket, fresh head, balance shafts eliminated.

If/when this engine blows up, a mild 2.4L will be tossed in.

A big fat NO. I'm sure it will be fine, not perfect, but fine.

My mini-laptop should be here tomorrow so I can start linking it up! But this shit weather might hold me up till next weekend.

Some newer pics below. I'll get better ones once the car moves.

I have two solid lifters, I will be degreeing my BC 280's. Do you have adjustable cam gears? I think we should spend a day degreeing them if you do, although I think it would be alot harder with the motor in the car.

I do not have adjustable cam gears, but I'd love to learn the process of degreeing cams.

I rattle canned it black last fall, filled in a lot the holes in the firewall and other places. I like the way it turned out. I did prep the bay very well as well, engine was out, cleaned, sanded and primed, etc. Some people hate it, some people like it.

Still waiting for Fedex to bring me a present! The car is in an un-heated garage so with this crappy weather I might not be feeling up to finishing the last little bit of stuff till it's in the 40's again.

Just showed up this morning:

My Asus Eee PC Netbook! I already have Link V3 on there ready to go!

This thing weighs like 3 lbs with the 6-cell battery. It's tiny! I like the multi-touch touch pad. It has a N280 processor (1.66ghz, the fastest you can get right now), wireless b/g/n and bluetooth, 160GB HD, 10" screen, and it boots Windows XP really fast! I got this just for link lol, and internet browsing.

Installed my oil cooler, made my -8 cooler lines. I need to install Link, empty and fill tank.

Started the car today. Won't idle :) Still on 92 oct, no fluid leaks anywhere :)

Thanks to Brandon (Halon) for some over-the-phone troubleshooting. He helped me fix a few problems I didn't even know I had.

Re: My Talon

No problem. Hopefully you get some more of that figured out. I guess I'm just not an expert when it comes to calibrating GM MAF applications. Mitsu MAF's for life :)
I hope you get it all worked out though, because I'm anxious to see what that thing puts down!

What ended up being wrong that it wouldnt idle?

Ya is there anything that I should know that we overlooked??
Also, how is it running now?

Re: My Talon

Thanks to Aaron (turbotalon1g) and Nick (munchgsx) for coming over and helping with the trial and error that eventually got my car idling! woohoo! Now the real tuning can begin.

I had to adjust my MAFComp +50% across the board to get the car to idle and be at a normal, stable A/F. It was just dumping gas at idle.

Re: My Talon

Adding 50% to the MAFComp table doesn't make any sense. Something else is way off or broken to need to do that across the board. Having to add 5-25% in the 50hz/idle column is common with MAFs that don't meter the best at idle or are hacked, but having to add a 50% is a lot and weird to have to add anything near that in the 150hz+ columns.

I've read that the GM maf's require a lot of adjustment. The car idles at 500hz lol.
