Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

I like the part in the Q&A that says:

Q: Will you have aftermarket parts and accesories available for the Genesis Coupe when it launches?

A: Those plans will be shared closer to launch, but we expect considerable aftermarket demand for performance accesories. In fact, we are studying a lower cost version for tuners.

smart people.

That lower cost version is the R-spec that will be launched around mid summer. I'm really liking where things are headed with this car, but I just hope it doesn't turn into the next Honda Civic.

Or the next SRT-4.... Bah.

I haven't looked at this thread or one of these till now.
Now I wished I wouldn't have, but mo said it the best I would buy one, mod it till it was a pain in the ass, then I would have to find a new DD.

Beautiful car, will be nice to see these and RWD will be awesome.

Big difference here guys. I know all about this from the quest. it's a cheap, RWD turbo car with a limited slip. This is how it goes:

1. turn 17, 18, 19, or 20
2. ask moms and dad for hyundai turbo coupe
3. drive it for 3 hours and try a burnout...fail at burnout
4. try to slide the ass around a corner
5. crash into a light pole/fire hydrant/tree/what have you and total the fuck out of your new car.
6. ???
7. Profit

I meant I hope it doesn't turn out like the Civic in that everybody just throws intake and a muffler, some aftermarket tail lights, a wing and a body kit on it, and think it the fastest car in the world.

Thats exactly the SRT4... Minus the RWD part. People still try to "drift" with a FWD vehicle. I watched this happen with more than a dozen people. Its ridiculous!

I dont understand how you "know all about this from the quest". Back when the quest was available, there was a fraction of the publicity compared to what the Genesis is getting. Plus the quest platform sucks... HAHA! Why do you think so many people put a 4g63 in them! :p

I know all about this from the quest, not because of when they were new, but how they are now. They are cheap and most come with a limited slip diff. They are turbo 4 bangers that can slide around easily. Just because you don't know anything about it doesn't mean you should hate. the quest platform, I'll have you know, is very mod friendly and very solid. I know people who have rolled their cars, flipped them through the air and hit trees with them, and walked away. very solid. Last time I saw a dsm wrecked, it was like this :hh: .

SOME people put 4g63's in 'em. but most don't.

I think this Genisis is going to be the next civic. I can see a bunch of "tuners" doing just what was said. Just because it has a turbo from the factory. I feel that this will not bring good things for the glory of the 4b11.

I definately will be picking up one of these in a couple years, they seem like a really cool platform to work off of. It's not everyday that we get a rwd turbo car in america.

I do think there will be a good amount of rich kids getting these for their birthdays, driving them like a dumbass, and wrapping them around tree's and other off road items. But in the right hands, these cars seem like they got some potential. And lets just say, you don't have to be Einstein work on a honda civic. I think the less tech savy tuner's will stray away from a car like this, it's a little too much for the normal honda tuner to have to deal with.

(btw, I apologize to any stupid honda drivers I may have offended).

Damn that's getting up there in compression numbers. How much of a difference could something as simple as a thicker headgasket make?

Shane@DBPerformance 02-03-2009 01:56 PM

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

I hope it isn't like a Madzaspeed Protege where they just took the NA motor and slapped a turbo on it without lowering the compression or making it able to hold any power.

You could throw in a thicker HG. It's an extremely common practice with the 2JZGE found in the SC300 and and NA MKIV Supra. Those motors are 10.0:1 compression stock, but have very strong internals. You can throw in a stock TT HG and get it down to around 9.3:1 compression or put in a thicker one from Cometic or one of the Supra shops and get it down in the 8.0 - 9.0:1 range.

Big power turbo S2k guys generally run a thicker head gasket as well.

That is exactly what I was trying to get at earlier. I hear a lot of hype about how this car is getting the same motor as the EVO's (meaning 4b11t). But from my research, the only thing I've found to be known for sure is that it'll have a turboed 4b11, but there are different variations of the 4b11. The evo's 4b11 was beefed up to handle the extra power, but nothing I've read had solid evidence showing if this is the beefed up one in the evo's, or if it's a weaker standard 4b11 with a turbo slapped on it.

That's just what my research has shown. If anyone has a link to any evidence that states otherwise, please share!

I don't know for sure if it's the exact same block as the EvoX, but I do know that the Genesis motor does have oil squirters, and the non turbo 4b11 doesn't. I've been looking for some schematic, or pictures of it, but nobody has taken pics with the head off, or the bottom end to see if it has the 4bolt mains and reinforced sleeves. But as far as I know, there's only one variant of the 4b11t, and one variant of the non turbo 4b11. Also, I think the non turbo 4b11 uses 10:1 compression pistons.
