Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
Some pics:
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10345.JPG It looks to me like the valve cover is leaking good and the middle exhaust stud seems to be leaking too. http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10347.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10349.JPG This is my first time pulling the valve cover. Does everything look alright in there from the pic? lol Figured out my pcv valve is actually preventing the engine to breath which would explain how much shit is in my catch can. I can just drill it out or hollow it out right? I do not have it hooked up to the intake manifold. |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
haha ya the head looks ok

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
I saw some insane wire tuck jobs on vw's and honda's and really got inspired:
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10357.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10356.JPG What the hell is this^? Can I cut it off and leave just the metal line? http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10355.JPG |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
i did i think its the tank vent.

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
That line is the vent for the gas tank. You shouldn't have it blocked off cause when the fuel vaporizes it needs somewhere to go. But yea remove the rubber hose and you can just leave the metal line open. Too bad you're so far away otherwise I'd gladly help out.
Here is some inspiration for ya! :p http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...rbolast002.jpg |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
I want to pull the whole harness out and route it through a custom hole I will make next to the shifter cables. I've seen all these VW's with their super clean engine bays. I want to shock people when I open the hood. lol

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
Got the tranny out in about an hour with everything out of the way.
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10360.JPG To me it looks like those black springs aren't sticking out like they should. http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10358.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10359.JPG I'll pull the clutch off tonight when I have a friend over to keep the motor from rotating. I have easter dinners to attend today. This is how clean I aim to make my engine bay: http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...r/S7300590.jpg Granted, our firewalls aren't that smooth, but it's good to set your goals high, right? |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
Got the clutch off last night and took some pics. Looks to me like the material holding the springs in on the side they broke is much thinner than the other side. That plus me dumping the clutch for fun did it in.
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10361.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10362.JPG The PP looks good to me though. Can I just find a different disc and throw that in without messing with the pp and flywheel? This crap has like 4k miles on it. |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
You can just buy a disk and reuse the pressure plate and flywheel.

I took the tranny into work last night after close and degreased the piss out of it and pressure washed it. It looks about 50 times better but it still has that aluminum varnish that won't come off without some scrubbing. Is there a trick to getting it off easy or will a sandblasting take care of it? |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
How harsh are 6 puck clutches really? I'm not asking from a dd point of view. I'm talking a fun car for weekends and nice days. I'm thinking about going with a stronger 6 puck disc instead of a street disc.
Here's some current status pics. Been working pretty slowly on it. Sanding the whole engine bay by hand is a pain in the ASS. I've just got a few more holes to sand down to bear metal then I'll be slapping on the bondo. http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10403.JPG I modified the engine mount and am quite happy with the clean look. I'm not leaving that paint on there, I shot it on to test out a color and to see how my mount looks: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10404.JPG Here is the transmission all cleaned up: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10406.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10407.JPG Here is the one issue with the china e3 compressor housing: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10405.JPG If you look closely, you can see the wastegate is put up flush where it's suppose to be bolted. However, the wastegate arm is too long to keep the flapper closed 100%. I'm thinking some spacers on the wg actuator mount will do the trick with some longer bolts. |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
Any body got any good advice on disc types? This is the disc I'm getting now that I sold my nt transmission:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/XTD-6...3A1|240%3A1318 Take note in the sprung center spring retainers. Almost the whole spring is covered so that will hopefully do away with my past problem. 6 puck should hold more power too. I'm just curious on the driveability. |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
o well for that price try it out, if youve had that problem twice why not go with something thats reassuring
|
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
Well, I soon descovered I suck with bondo right now so I'm not going to bother filling all the holes. Instead, I'm painting it and am going to put it together.
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10515.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10516.JPG I'm just so damn sick of not driving it. Anybody got an oem disc for cheap? |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
I would say don't worry about the harshness of a sprung 6 puck. I just got my competition stage 4 clutch working properly (2500 pound pressure plate, sprung ceramic 6 puck disc) and it's only a little more harsh than my old ACT 2600 w/street disc. I actually like this new clutch more than the old ACT setup.
|
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
I'll just get an XTD sprung 6 puck and throw it in. It's the same price as a damn oem disc so what the hell.
I applied the final painting today, and I must say looks spot on, chaps! http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10518.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10517.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10519.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10521.JPG I just started un-masking it. I also have a friend of mine sand-blasting my i/c pipes and the water pipe so I can paint those items. I can't wait for the MN all Mitsu Cookout this year! |

Looks good!

I really wanted to do the factory color as best I could. I almost just went straight gloss black but then found out motor parts in town mixes paint to match factory codes. They also compressed it into a spray can so I was set. |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
I had today off so I took the wiring harness over to my parents and me and my dad modified it and fixed it up where there were crimp connections we soldered them. I'm mounting the injector resister box thing inside the car on the oposite side of the firewall. That and anything else that needs to be grounded. The MAFT box will sit in my center console, so I just pulled the stock one through. I do also plan to keep the factory heater core and fan setup. I will post pictures when we're all done with it and it's ready to go in.
This car won't know what to do it'll be so fresh. haha |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
damn...i envy your engine bay so much. makes me want to clean my engine bay! lol. looking freakin good though man. hope to see it at the cookout!

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
Thanks! I plan to be there. Maybe even rock falls. I just hope twack can get his car on the road so I have someone to drive with. :)

Lookin good! Can't wait to start cleaning mine up some more.

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
Thanks guys!
Andy, what are you going to do to yours now? Travis, I think you should just bite the bullet and convert to a manual setup. |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
Me and my dad finished up the wiring harness. I also got most of it installed, just need to do a few modifications to make it work. Took a few pics:
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10541.JPG Here you can see where I mounted the injector resistor box, and the defroster relay along with the other diagnostic plugs for setting/checking timing, fuel pump, etc. I'm also mounting the fuse block that usually sits on the positive battery post into the glove box: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10540.JPG Here is the new clutch disc: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10543.JPG |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
I'm likin the clutch disk! My plans are to redue the whole wiring harness and take out everything that I don't need. Then re-run it through the bottom center of the fire wall. I'm gonna try and hide ALL the wires. But we'll see what happens..

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
Yeah it takes a lot of patience, but my car doesn't get driven all that often and not in the winter. So that should give me enough down time to get it all done. When do you plan on having you're car finished?

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
Clutch is in and torqued to 16 ft. lbs., 95% of the wiring is done, turbo is on, and the oil pan is off. I can't believe how thin that oil pan gasket is. I was expecting a cork gasket or something, not what looks like paper thin material.
Tomorrow the transmission goes in. I hope everything goes good. |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
Well I picked the hottest day ever (monday) to put the transmission put in, but I got it done with the help of my local friend Carl. It didn't go too bad honestly. Carl said this was about 3 times easier than an awd tranny. I just hope this tranny won't leak.
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10555.JPG I really hope this turbo lasts till the end of this year at least. It's not a big deal if it pukes early, I still have my 14b I can just swap into the hotside. http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10556.JPG I get paid today so I'll be able to pick up a few gaskets I need and start to make some more progress. Still have some wiring to do, but it's all simple stuff. |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
Got some more done today. Wiring is done. Intake mani is on. Waiting on a tb gasket to arrive monday. Mostly waiting on my shit to get back from sand-blasting. The guy is doing it for nothing so I'm not going to be one to rush. As of right now, things look good to make it to the up coming winona autoX in a week or 2.
I tried out all the lights and everything seems to be squared away with my wiring. I just hope the engine fires up and has no issues. :) Pics: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10562.JPG Here is where I put the chassis fuse box: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10564.JPG I have the fuse box bolted down as of now, the pic was a bit early. I also got the MAF-T in there, I just have to extend the harness for the sensor: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10565.JPG I'm getting very excited to hear it start up for the first time in a few months. |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
Man, I'm like a multi post whore here! lol
Rolled it outside today for some pictures. Oil pan is on and torqued down, along with the turbo oil return line. The only things keeping me from starting it in fluids, water pipe, i/c pipes and 3 wires that need to be extended and ran to the gm mafs. http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10568.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10569.JPG And yes Travis and Carl, I am still using my coffee mug/oil catch can! http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10567.JPG The stray wire is the positive wire for the fan that just needs to be tied into that fuse block. http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC10566.JPG I bled the clutch but the pedal seems really light. Is there any other things besides bleeding it at the nipple on the slave? |
Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
Nice location for the fuse box ;)

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX
Here's a pic. You can see a little 90 degree bracket I made and then the other mounting tab just lined right up with an existing hole.
