About $60 between the Race and the Aluglide. About $35 difference between the King bearings and ACL race, and $30 between the Clevite's (which I've used in the past with luck) and ACL Race.

The thing is, I know ACL Race bearings work well in our motors, but it seems as though everything else does as well!

Bah, regular Clevites and Kings work just fine for that. Just make sure you clean up the edges if going with Clevites, they can have an edge on them.

Clevite, for me. I have been running stock spec ones on eagle rods for years and I am not nice to my car at all.. I cant blow it up for some reason.. I would recommend them unless you are going with a full build.

Got a little bit done today. My mission was to get both my engines torn down to bare blocks. I got one done, then the other about 70% of the way. My impact took a shit, so it slowed me down, then I called it a day shortly after.

Couldn't get the damn front motor mount bracket off the old motor, didn't want to break it off in the block and the impact died so I left it. The block can be used as a core, the crank may need to be polished, I'd like a more expert opinion on it first I guess.

This is how I left the 2nd motor. It's a good thing I decided to dig into it though, because as soon as I hit the balance shaft nut to take my sprocket off with my ratchet the belt disintegrated. That would have been a bad time. I also found some debris in the oil pan and found that the engine had one bad bearing as well, it was down the the copper in one little strip down the middle, looked to be from contamination maybe.

Also found out the motor I picked up this spring came with straight cut oil pump gears. Bonus! Should work well with my OEM balance shaft eliminator stub shaft

I re-wired my brother's parts cleaner the other day and got that running again. Got some new solvent in it, and it works tits! Now I will be cleaning the crap out of everything for a while. Plan on pressure washing my block this weekend, maybe get it honed as well.

Well, last weekend little Chang and I got the motor all pressure washed and cleaned up and ready to hone. I grabbed a dingle ball hone from a member tonight and will probably get to it some time in the next couple weeks. So busy lately.

Once I hone the block I am taking it in to get hot tanked then it should be ready for paint and assembly.

Got a little work done on the motor this weekend.

Got the block hot tanked by Gosh Tuesday, picked it up on Thursday. While I was there I got a quote from John for my head and he said it would be cheaper if I took the valves out myself since they have to be taken out to resurface it. I had checked the flatness with my feeler gauges this week also, and it has a warped spot that is about .008" off, and another spot that is about .006" off. The service limit is .008" so I decided to just have it re-surfaced to be on the safe side.


When I was in the area I picked up a bad ass valve spring compressor tool from Ling Ling. Thanks again for that man, it made quick work of taking the head apart! I also picked up some other supplies I will be needing.

Next up was doing the head oil port mod. Got out the die grinder and used an old head gasket for a template so I wouldn't screw up the head surface, I used a couple head bolts to keep the gasket put:

I also wanted to drill out the head bolt holes to 1/2" to accommodate the bigger 1g head bolts, and tap and plug the egr hole on the intake side of the head, but couldn't find a drill bit long enough for the press and I don't have a 1/4" npt tap for the egr. The local hardware store wanted $8 for a 1/4 npt tap and didn't have the style plug I wanted so I will just have Gosh do those two things for me.

My list of things for Gosh to do to the head:

- Bore head bolt holes to 1/2"
- Tap and plug EGR hole
- Re-surface
- Hot tank

Nice work, especially on the head material. That would suck to have the whole thing built and have crap start flaking off into motor.

Maybe I missed it but are you going to run aftermarket valve train components or stick with the stock stuff? Block looks nice!

Just use a 1/2" bit and still by hand.
