Re: The Brian Spilner ..... EVO

lol no the kosei k1's have two valve stems per wheel.... trust me I was baffled when i first saw them. From what I could find googling, it's either for
A. Nitrogen filling
B. Attaching a gauge to one, while filling another,
C. A sporty look
lol

If any one knows the true meaning of my 2 valve stems per wheel PLEASE chime in:)

Re: The Brian Spilner ..... EVO

I got too busy to post pics of the center caps on the car but they really made me <3 the wheels. They seemed soo incomplete before.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...70421809_o.jpg

http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...54464709_o.jpg

But they were only on for a short time.... because as you all know winter is right around the corner.

Originally I was going to have the wheels powder coated a nice bronze but the shop that was going to do it was having a hard time finding a powder that looked right.
So i called koehler collision in Winona,
The same place that did the front bumper on the talon, they did a nice, FAST job on that so i figured I would become a repeat customer.

I showed them the pic goodhart posted and they could match it no problem, said it'd be done in a week.

Week goes by, no response I stopped by to check on the progress... NOTHING. They said they couldnt sand blast the previous paint off because it was on there too good. I told them bs, took my finger nail and CHIPPED off 90% of the plastic coating in 30 minutes sitting in the back of their shop.

They were then willing to try sandblasting now that the wheels were almost completely clean. said it'd be done in a week.

1 weeks goes by... nothing... 2 weeks go buy nothing.... 3 weeks go by I tell them if they are not done by the end of the week I was going to pick the wheels up and take them to the powder coating place down the road.

They guaranteed that it would be done by the end of the week..

Called on the day it was supposed to be done by, and they hadn't touched them. I told them I was coming to pick them up.

ONE month of my time WASTED..... and i still had to pay them for an hour of their time.

Took the wheels to the powder coater... decided on a black sparkle because he had some in stock, it looked nice and I was tired of waiting...

They were done in 3 days. They had no problem sand blasting at all and only charged $50/wheel out the door.

So I finally got to put my winter tires on :)

Sucks about the paint shop. I wouldn't have paid a damn dime. Looks good though!

I turned 24 on monday and I finally found a girl that understands, I like cars.

So along with all the "cute" things girl friends get you like a framed picture of you two, she also bought me the Evolution Viii "UK" trunk badge. Seeing as I'm bald, I had to borrow her blow dryer and I threw this thing on today. I looked at a lot of pictures of where people were placing it in reference to the crease and I think I got it relatively close. Not perfect but I'm happy with where it ended up.

Who: Jeff Forss - The Alignment Guy
Where:1009C West 80Th. Street,
Bloomington, 55420
Contact: http://www.thealignmentguy.com 952-888-0800 or fixin911s@yahoo.com

http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n.../alignment.jpg

I got new wheels and tires on the evo and they checked the alignment for free, I was in need.

There was a lot of talk about how good Jeff the alignment guy was so I sent him an email to see what he had to offer.

I live in Winona and his shop is in Bloomington so it was roughly a two hour drive. I initially wanted to have it done on my way to drill but my schedule was hard to work with. Jeff was very accommodating and he even offered to let me crash on his couch the night before drill.

I ended up not being able to go until last night and I had to bring my girlfriend along (who was starving).

Jeff was really nice, knew what he was doing and had the best price around. He initially quoted me $85 for stock suspension and $100 for custom suspension. All said and done he asked for $75, I initially planned on giving him $100 and he would NOT take the extra money.

While we were waiting for Jeff to work his magic my gf and I were talking about where we wanted to eat afterwards. I was not familiar with the area and Jeff gave us some good recommendations and even printed off 4 pages of great restaurants for us!!

The evo takes onramps like a champ and It made a huge difference in how the car handles.

I couldn't be happier with the entire experience and I will never let anyone besides Jeff touch my alignment

That's good to hear about Jeff. I am pretty sure that is where I will be taking my wife's EVO this spring.

Revised Temp control gears!!

OK soo I've noticed a lot of EVO owners have a problem with their heat blend control and don't do anything about it. Last year when I test drove Mikes silver evo his knob was broken and he just reached under to switch from hot to cold. When I was test driving a few evos the owners would say "yeah that's just how the evos are."

It's literally a $15 and 15 minute fix IF you fix it before you snap the knob.

There is a lot of literature on evolutionm so i'm not going to waste every ones time reading my rambling. Here's the link to the "Mega guide"

http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-how...ega-guide.html

This should work for ordering the revised gears. I ordered mine on a Friday and got them in the mail on Wednesday. Yeah shipping is $10 but now's your chance to order a few of the other misc. items you've been putting off. I ordered the cover for my mirror that I was missing, the trunk lamp, and bulb that got ditched when the cf trunk was installed.

Pop your head under the dash on the drivers side and see if you have the old design gears

If so ORDER THE NEW ONES!

Made a world of difference on how the knob turns. It's not as smooth as I'd prefer but 100% better

cmspaz 11-24-2011 05:28 PM

Re: The Brian Spilner ..... EVO

That knob won't turn as smooth as you like until you actually pull the heater box and clean out/regrease the blond door gears... and fix the real issue that causes all this: the lack of factory installed cabin filter.

I will have to, my plastic cable kinked due to the grease gumming up, I have to move the lever by hand (or foot) to turn the heat up.

Cammaxon 11-24-2011 06:37 PM

Re: The Brian Spilner ..... EVO

I know that there is a cabbin air filter in the glove box on some? What year did they did that?

cmspaz 11-25-2011 12:02 AM

Re: The Brian Spilner ..... EVO

The 02 and 03 Lancers did not have a cabin filter. The spot is there with some plastic mesh or whatever, you cut that out and put the filter in.

The christmas gift upgrades

The evo got a few xmas gifts :)

When the CF trunk was put on the torsion bars were ditched and the trunk only opened if you prayed. I'd either need a friend to lift up on it as I pulled the trunk release or prop something under the trunk release to keep it from latching. I got sick of the whole ordeal and ordered Reline tunings Quicklift gas shocks trunk kit.
Twack helped me put one on but then had to shampoo some carpet so I did the other a few days later.

http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...42755163_o.jpg

http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...98268535_o.jpg

It was extremely simple to do. All you need is a riveter and a drill. It came with very detailed full colored instructions with pictures and all the hardware you need. If anyone is interested you can order them from this link:

http://www.redlinetuning.com/QL-MITS...RUNK-0207.html

My gf was real sweet to me again and ordered the painted vortex generator from rexspeed. She said there where over half a dozen chinese porn mags in the box when she opened it but she threw them away :( (prude)

Another super simple install but I think it made a world of difference on the appearance. I'm still torn about whether or not to get a wing but this will hold me over for a while.

http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...03858374_o.jpg

I also thought the color was pretty well matched :)

http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...37428396_o.jpg

http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...52739854_o.jpg

It's way to clean for december 29th... and I haven't gotten much use out of my snow tires.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...82443847_o.jpg

And I was completely sick of the stock radio.... If it would have at lest came with a tape deck or auxiliary port I would have been happy enough with it. But I felt like I was back in high school carrying a CD book around.

I really didn't care about having a CD player since all of my music on on digital format or I just stream pandora and I really wanted a full color display. I didn't to mess around with relocating my gauges so the double din wasn't an option. I did a lot of research on the pioneer, alpine, and kenwood digital media receivers and decided that the Kenwood KIV-BT901 was the best option for what I wanted and what was in my price range.

http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...65360663_o.jpg

I decided not to let them install it because they wouldn't have done it the way I wanted to and my gauges are wired into the illumination so I didn't them messing anything up...

I removed WAY too much stuff from my interior but In the end it was worth it :)

http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...14820281_o.jpg

Took the armrest compartment out, drilled and dremmeled a nice whole for my rubber grommet

http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...47091092_o.jpg

http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...17630111_o.jpg

Then I remembered that It was capable of supporting a USB hub so I borrowed the one from my laptop setup. Attached some adhesive velcro and secured it low enough I could have a USB plugged in and still close the lid.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...84635982_o.jpg
I know the blue is kind of tacky but I didn't want to buy another one...

The wiring harness was straight forward. I used heat shrink couplers on everything and put my zippo to use.

http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...38288601_o.jpg

I also picked up a monster Auxiliary cable and kenwood's KCA IP202 Ipod cable so I could stream pandora from an Iphone and watch videos etc.

http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...72434557_o.jpg

All of the cables were ran through wire loom to keep it clean under my center console, since the usb was attached to the back of the deck I ran that through later.

http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...24320332_o.jpg

The whole process was actually very time consuming, but I wanted everything to be perfect. There are too many wires in this cubby for my liking but I also couldn't think of a media devise you couldn't connect.

http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...22170601_o.jpg

http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...68787552_o.jpg

http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...30012567_o.jpg

There was a lot of debate on where to put the bluetooth mic. I considered the A pillar but It sounded like I was in a tunnel and if I put it where I wanted it by the rear view mirror it was too quiet. It sounded best on the top of the steering wheel shroud but looked stupid so I just positioned it off to the side like a ninja.
