http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...cture_2037.jpg http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...cture_2039.jpg The front end of my car fell off tonight, this is about 80lbs of weight. I will be welding in about 30lbs of chrome moly and steel to replace this. More to come in the next few weeks. ~John |
Re: 91 Galant VR4
Quick, make it RWD!
|
Re: 91 Galant VR4
Um, you might need those things.
I think u just slowed down the reassembly process. lol Keep up the good work. You are crazy. |
Re: 91 Galant VR4
The engine will be up here at work for the better part of the winter, so I was thinking of other stuff to do with the chassis. The goal is to have all the vital parts mounted to the frame, then make the fenders, front bumper, grill and head lights removable as 1 piece.

Re: 91 Galant VR4
that is taking a huge step. now just post up the parts you cut off to make some quick cash

Re: 91 Galant VR4

I hate it when cars fall apart like that!

Re: 91 Galant VR4

http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...cture_3036.jpg http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...cture_3039.jpg I re did the front down bars on the roll cage and cut out the factory dash bar and put a chrome moly piece in its place. You can also see the upper front frame bars tie into the cage structure. http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...cture_3041.jpg http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...cture_3042.jpg I still have a lot to do up here, but this is a good start. ~John |

Reminds me of a soundgarden song.

Re: 91 Galant VR4
street able yes, a street car no. I do plan to make it out and about at the opportune moments. I plan on going manual and awd to start and see where I go from there. All the guests are from the GalantVR4.org forms, or at least most of them.

Looking good John! Do you plan to triangulate the cross bar (dash replacement) and down bars? |
Re: 91 Galant VR4
Lookin good :) Are you gonna do a tubular K-member too?
|
Re: 91 Galant VR4
I have a lot of ideas for a lot of different parts of the car. I have also been reminded several times to keep the modification list on the shorter side to make sure it can be done in time for the track next season. So for now the K member will remain stock. I do plan to add some triangulation on most of the major intersection on the front end/roll cage. The stock frame rails are not that strong so where the new section meats the original there will be material added there also, but I could pick up the front of the car with just the box tube tacked on.

I have added gussets to the box tubing, bars from the upper frame rail to the lower cross over, which ties into the rear motor mount/sub frame, and the front lower cross over bar. In the next few days I will do the strut tower mounts and fab up the new driver, passenger and front lower motor mounts. ~John |
