Re: the evo 3 swap parts are coming
just got the first coat on looks so much better with just that so far. took a full can for the first coat to get it to cover now just have to do a few light coats then a few more heavy coats and let it fully dry then next weekend I can start wiring and putting it back together a bit

Re: the evo 3 swap parts are coming
Do those cans say rubber coating? Is it like bedliner kinda stuff?
|
Re: the evo 3 swap parts are coming
it is a spray rubber it is what you put on tool handles. there are a ton of guys using it to paint there cars now. it you get tired of it you can just make a small cut in it and peal it right back off. but it will bond to anything out there. it does dry and is not rubbery. if you scratch it or gouge it just put more over the top the chemicals in it will melt into the older stuff and you will not see where it was at

Re: the evo 3 swap parts are coming
Looks sweet. Definately will have to consider that if I ever do my engine bay. Are you just doing the engine bay that color, or the whole car?
|
Re: the evo 3 swap parts are coming
just the engine bay. still going to paint the car daytona pearl blue. my parents got me the paint for my birthday and x-mas gift
|
Re: the evo 3 swap parts are coming
Nice. Man I'm thinking of trying to use that on my IC pipes now. Kinda a nice flat black OEM look, and I'm all about cheap.

Re: the evo 3 swap parts are coming
woo
just picked up a new oem oil pump with a oem b.s. kit in it for 125 and got new timing covers lower and mid for 45 the kid put the engine all together and desided to go with a 2.3 6bolt insteed also we had a group buy on rear lower control arms for the mirages. they fit the evo rear end they just dont have a sway bar bracket on them but I will bring them to work and have big bird make me some and weld them to the arms http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...1/IMG_3305.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...1/IMG_3303.jpg they just hit the states we got them from LLT-Racing out of Austraila |
Re: the evo 3 swap parts are coming
I would personally not use that on my car. Take a little more time and remove everything in engine bay, clean, prime what needs it, and paint it with actual paint. I would call that more of an OEM look since that what come in the engine bay from the factory. I am guessing that if there is a nick or something that the plasti stuff will just start to come off. All are different though. Hopefully you get what you were told on the oil pump too. I bought a "new OEM" oil pump from someone one time and it ended up not being oem and it wore out and was junk within 500 miles. I will never buy an oil pump from anywhere but the dealer myself ever again i just dont think it is worth the couple dollars savings to chance it. Post up photos when the engine bay is done too. When do you think it will be on the road?

Re: the evo 3 swap parts are coming
Post pics once you're finished painting under the hood!

Re: the evo 3 swap parts are coming
It looks great, I got to see it in person tonight. It will definitely look better with a motor in there, though. :D
|
Re: the evo 3 swap parts are coming
Fuck it, paint the whole car with that stuff! :D
|
Re: the evo 3 swap parts are coming
I am not going that far with it like some of the guys have
|
Re: the evo 3 swap parts are coming
Is that stuff going to start peeling up? When you knick it installing the engine, and start tightening bolts/nuts on top of it?
|
Re: the evo 3 swap parts are coming
^ He was telling me last night that you can scratch the hell out of it, respray over it, and the new paint activates the old stuff and it melds together, to the point that you can't even tell it was resprayed.

Re: the evo 3 swap parts are coming
Yeah, I read that in the earlier posts.
Im just saying, sounds like a pain in the ass and in 6 months will probably look like shit (well after the car gets the equivilent of 6 months of driving). I know you're all about cheap, but my opinion is you should have just painted the engine bay, and made your car start to really shine. |
Re: the evo 3 swap parts are coming
It's kinda like you did all this work, just to finish it off with something cheap.
|
Re: the evo 3 swap parts are coming
The engine bay was going to get painted flat black any way. The guy that have painted there cars and rims ect have made it through the winter and summer non fading or chiping with them d.d. the cars.
I realy did not put to much time into the engine bay mabe a few hours of work and that is it. Once it fully cures it will not peel off with out cutting it and peeling it your self. Rocks don't even chip it when it is cured. |
Re: the evo 3 swap parts are coming
I think it will work just fine. Looks really nice. If he did paint woth real paint it wouldnt take long for to get chipped and shit. keep up the work looking really good.
