I think HB speed was one that tested the downpipes and they said hands down that each time the AMS produced a better powerband.

If you really want I can try and dig up a thread where they say this...the whole downpipe thing is very convoluted from what I have found trying to search for the "best downpipe".

I am not convinced any way what so ever. The fact that AMS used casting to get the bends exactly how they wanted and maximize the use of the free space for the US model cars made me believe that theirs in theory should provide the best overall gains.

Like I said, if you really want I can try to dig up some of the "Best Downpipe" threads where a lot of this is discussed, but it won't be until later, there seems to be one of them each week on EvoM or Evoxforum.

I went on a complete cold streak as of late...I was on a hot one before...been shut down lately, even my normal booty calls...sad days.

Booze is the only thing that has kept my mind off of the evo, lol :)

I think the lady tanking situation might be directly correlated to my brother getting my back into World of Warcraft, that bastard..

I did stop for a while, then I had free time that would normally be filled with car stuff, but then no car led to boredom and then...the evilness of wow, lol.

I like how the life of dave blog is either cars or chicks...good topics :)

Another thing that is nice about a cast piece also is that it will hold the heat better, and in theory, should spool the turbo a hair better because of that. Might also keep under hood temps down a few degrees? Probably not enough to notice, but thought I'd throw that out there.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

So here is the first fully tuned Evo X on a black, this is a very mild build on 26psi...peak torque is actually earlier on this than my red was, but that is probably because I was boosting 33psi instead of 26 :)

Regardless it looks like the black will be pretty similar spool wise to my Red and torque should be a few hundred rpm's later.

This is actually Vs. a similar modded car with a red.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

So I asked Shane if the Evo would be done for this weekend's cookout...his words were something along the lines of, Danny will have to make some magic happen for the car to be ready, lol. Classic Shane response I'd say Smile

I am gonna assume it won't happen so if it does i will be happy.

Hopefully end of next week though if no magic happens..i need magic to get it in time for the 11th of Sept drags.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Another thing, it appears that AWD is saying that the black will spool nearly identical to the Red for the X...with that in mind, if it does, and it has similar flow capabilities to the 8/9 black...this could be a very good thing...maybe the bigger hotside is helping with spool on the X, who knows.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

^Yea, just like they 'proved' that the BBK Full and the Black spooled the same, which is absolute horse shit. Dyno plots do not tell the full story about how a turbo behaves on the street.

Murlo26 08-23-2010 11:06 AM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

LOL, i wouldn't believe that for a second for sure. The BBK is nothing like the black, I will admit that.

I was simply relaying what they said :)

If there is any truth to it, then sweetness, but I would expect at least a few hundred rpm lag increase. However, Danny said he thought on the street it would feel the same as the red.

Only time will tell this story, I think it will be very interesting to see how the X stacks up to the 8/9 one though with Jakes build, just to see the differences.

I expect the same thing I saw with my red vs 8/9 reds though. Faster spool than the 4g63, less midrange and better top end. But who knows.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

lol@ all this pointless wondering BS.

Don't worry your head about it, just wait till it happens. The best way is to drive or get into these cars that have these turbos, even though every setup will be different.

Glad to hear the end is near.

Well, I probably should've just made a thread about the FP black instead of posting the thoughts rattling in my brain here, haha.

I need to listen to Scheides more often i think :)

Bought a few things today...

-Another new set of OEM plugs
-AMS lightweight battery and tray :)
-Synapse BOV

The battery is me thinking ahead I guess and something I kind of wanted to do anyway. After sitting for 4 months, I am guessing my battery is probably not the happiest right now as it barely started the car before. Had to swap it at the dealer once, the panasonic batteries suck so figured I would knock of 15 lbs and get a better battery :)

I'm sure the $185 racing plugs would have worked $100 better. :sex2:
