Just an FYI, you get a lot of hot ass when you search for "very nice"

I am getting super pumped now! Shane said they dialed in the part throttle today on the dyno and did motor break in. Dave is pleased.

Can't wait to get home from this shithole state and pick up the car. I just hope the extra displacement is worth the cost. I am guessing of all the things I have ever done that is the smartest though.

Anyway, sounds like its ready to be picked up and put more miles on it just driving. Anyone wanna drive it around for me ;)

Send it on over to TX. My commute to work is around 55 miles round trip. I'll put some miles on it for you. I'm sure Kracka wouldn't mind putting some miles on it on the weekends. ;)

It's definitely good to hear that all is going well dude!

Vacuum pulls vacuum pulls vacuum pulls. That's what I did for the first like 50 miles on my car and I'm super happy I did--light part throttle up to 6000rpm or 6500 in 3rd or 4th then let it engine break down down down. Keep a sharp eye on the oil and change it whenever they tell you to. Even doing this and just rolling in the car I was SOOOO happy I missed it so much! You're gonna love it :)

I am guessing DB did this quite a bit today, I doubt 50 miles worth but quite a bit.

I remember your vacuum pulls, I was there for the first of em :) I will be sure to do quite a bit of them. I really want the rings seated and to get some nice high compression out of this bitch.

Yup exactly, you went on that first 20 mile drive with me around my neighborhood and up/down hwy 100. That was SO fun, just cruising and letting the revs hang. I continued to do that whenever I could....not too much but I would say quite often for the first 500 miles.

If I didn't need to put $300 tabs on the car to drive it and get insurance back on it I would consider it haha. Who knows, if I get in a pinch and stuck here for way longer than expected in Kansas I might need someone to drive it some.

That was fun, brand new motor purring all nice like! Nighttime is perfect for vacuum pulls, then you don't have to worry about people behind you going wtf, speed up.

Have someone drive it to you in KS then drive it back to MN rather than fly!

I drove here originally weeks ago. I hate flying for one(not that I won't fly, it just doesn't save a ton of time when you have to drive from Kansas city to where I am 3 hours away anyway) and I knew I was going to be here for a few weeks so I could pack a lot of shit and not travel size stuff.

Gotta a rental 2010 civic :) This car is so simple and reliable, I almost want one for a DD.

Stupid lil civics are addicting to drive.. slow as dirt but they handle great.

I also don't drive in rush hour since I work 630 to 230, and its 90% highway.

Yea this car isn't fast at all, but its basic, cheap, reliable and very solid at handling for what it is. Its nice and light and good on gas too.

I like!

It's hard to compare as I haven't driven it forever, but the new 2.2L and higher compression seem quite a bit snappier on the street. I like! :)

Just got done doing 35 miles of vacuum pulls, well part of that time was "mini" vacuum pulls as I had cars around me but a constant speed up and let er wind down the whole way!

Got a CEL already though, p0140 for my o2 sensor. I am guessing that is from the new downpipe though. I cleared it for now.

I think just castrol 10w-40 non sythetic.

Got the p0140 again already, glad I have a tactrix now so I can clear it. I'll have shane disable it during the tune.

Very nice, A lot of people say that they don't seem to dyno more power with the extra compression, but the butt dyno loves it.

No replacement for displacement!!!

Feel free to stop by anytime if you get bored.

Got just under 300 miles on the car now, it feels great so far! After about 100 miles the engine started to feel like it tightened up or something, hard to explain, I think its a good thing :)

I did dozens of vacuum pulls so I should be good on that front...tune is a coming soon.

How's the EF4 so far? Feel responsive?

Murlo26 09-21-2011 09:08 AM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

It's tough to say for sure for two reasons.

1. I haven't gone over like 3, maybe 4psi.
2. The new motor is totally different from the old one, 10% more displacement and compression.

But initial impressions are very good, meaning I think this thing even with the tubular mani and being a bigger turbo will spool pretty damn quick. It feels peppy for sure. Before I didn't feel much around 3k rpms, now it wants to spool around there on the new setup.

I am hoping for full boost around 4k, but we will see.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I don't know if you will get "full boost" by 4000, I know the EF2 would, but also depends on boost and such. Good luck. Let me know how the tunage goes.

remember this is a 10 not an 8/9.

My black hit 36-37psi by 4200rpms on DB's dyno last time on my 2.0L.

With an extra 10% displacement it should be another 400rpms or so lower on the EF4 I would think.

The EF4 is a bit bigger so it could be more like 4200-4400rpms but I wouldn't think over 4500rpms on the setup, we will see. I am also not boosting high 30's this time, so that is another factor.

Andrew is getting full boost from his EF3 with a 2.3L faster than a 2.0L spools a Green.
