While at DB Spaz noticed my stock 4b11 pistons said 0331 on them and commented on Jake, but was like oh not quite :)

Some completed head pics, nothing too fancy...Danny scared me about the shims falling out so I didn't want to mess with it too much. Thanks Spaz for holding the head while i snapped a pic!

Danny said his guy didn't get too crazy on the head because he didn't see much restriction. He said he got the bowls inside pretty ported out though. The 4b11 head flows very well already, i am sure this helps though :)

The oversized valves all in :)

So it sounds like every piece for the build is there now. Danny said its just a matter of putting the head on the block and putting the bitch back in. So hopefully they don't have too many emergencies of people that need stuff asap so they can focus, lol.

Also, I think i am going with the cocktail mix when they put the tranny back in...the amsoil felt really thick until it heated up and didn't seem to help the notchiness enough.

Yeah, Red Line sounds like the way to go.

Awesome! What headstuds are you putting in this beast?

Standard ARP's.

That is all they have besides the cosworths and I am not shelling out that much for headstuds.

I spoke with Danny on this and he thought I'd be fine anyway. The Evo heads aren't prone to lifting like the dsm heads. Also all the big builds use ARP ones anyway.

Not to mention ETS used ARP's on their 800whp build at like 40psi, i think i'll be ok :)

Great choice on the Redline cocktailX (2xMTL 1xMT90). I put mine in at 1,200 miles and still felt I waited too long :D

The AMSoil was better than stock, but it just seemed way too thick I think.

The Amsoil is a 75W-90, Evo X spec is 75W-80 (for comparison, 8/9's call for 75W-85).

How the hell do you keep so much trivia in your head? lol.

Hmmm, probably why it seemed a bit thick, lol.

When it warmed up it felt great though :)

The guy on EvoM insisted it worked better for evo drivers, lol. Since we beat the shit outta our cars. But I think the AMSoil is more of a track thing.

I have no idea, must be the one section of brain that alcohol hasn't yet affected

You'll love the Redline. I've been running it in all my cars since 2001 including my DSM's, S2000, Evos, and my wife's WRX.

Heh my evo8 begs to differ :P But yea, you'll be fine with standard arps, just curious!

Touche :)

I guess we will see, I think i'll be alright.

I do plan to run as much boost as humanly possible on the black though :) 40 sounds very fun.

Shane said we will have to wait and see how knock is going and if the ignition system can keep up. Might have to go to E98...but that would be on my alt map for like the track or something.

The stock X can take over 30, which wasn't true of the VIII. We've all heard of 35r guys running 40 on stock ignition so I suspect it'll work.

Hopefully the new motor doesn't have that phantom knock issue your stock one did.

Also untrue :) Gap the plugs down and stock evo8-9 ignition (or are we talking headstuds? that works too!) can handle some pretty big boost. Is it the best/safest setup? Probably not, but I've seen it done!

Not trying to call you guys on every detail, but evoX is not so amazingly different/better than the evo8/9 or 1G/2G DSMs as most evoX owners depict.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I spoke to Shane/Danny and Michael at ETS and they all said the Evo heads in general didn't really have the lifting head problems the DSM's did...I am not saying the Evo X is better than the 8/9's at that but for sure the DSM's.

Also, AFAIK, the stock X has COP, the 8/9's don't so I guess I assumed it was better I could be wrong...

But Shane said high boost on E85 requires some pretty crazy ignition, he said it won't necessarily break up but boost might go up and power won't he said.

No one on the X has done super high HP on E85 aside from Gates. I wonder if he is on the stock ignition still. He has slowly gotten rid of most stock stuff.
