Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
No its becuase they kept using a 270 degree thrust bearing system in the turbo instead of the 360 it needs to support the thrust loads.
With the 270 degree system there isnt enough oil in between the thrust bearing to support such a big compressor wheels thrust, and pretty much just pushes out the oil out of the way. Especially when closing the throttle after high boost. If you can hear your blow off valve flutter after you relased the throttle under high boost, it is removing and applying thust load on that thrust bearing mulitple times, and killing it. http://www.turbomagazine.com/tech/04...t_1/index.html |

"After overlaying John's graph with mine, the stupid ar housing doesn't help spool at all, and the gt42 t5 turbine wheels are pretty efficient enough. I'm actually aborting the turbo all together..I found a REAL gt4294 for CHEAP..just comes with a t6 internally gated housing I need to remove and swap out."

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
why not just have someone build you another new exhaust manifold. hahah, then switch the head.. then go with higher compression piston... then (you get the idea hehe). Just givin ya shit swift, good luck with the new turbo

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
I just don't get it.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
I've said it before, quit buying junk turbos. You end up spending more in the end.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
It's prolly REAL cheap for a reason, unless you found a diamond in the rough.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Updating, since scheides twisted my arm over it.
I've sold my guitar setup, since it was a liquid asset that i didn't mind parting with, to fix this fucking car for the end of year. Found a new gt42 for sale. Guy was asking $200. I went and looked at it, and talked him down to $100 (he's a vw guy). it came off a detroit diesel series 60, and came with a t6 1.28 internally gated exhaust housing. I took that housing off, and am looking for places to list it for sale on, as I will never use this. The rest of the turbo I inspected, looks GREAT. It was dirty as hell from all the diesel oil and such, so I tried some easy off oven cleaner, and got most of it clean. Still wasn't up to my par, so I ran up to Primo, and with their help, soda blasted and cleaned off all the parts, wheels, housings, and such really well. I have the new torque specs for everything, after conversating with Nick over at Diesel Components, and will be reassembling the turbo in no time. the nice thing about it is the parts all look new on the inside. It has a 270 deg. thrust bearing, but most of these turbos from the factory come with it. What I really liked is the fact that it was stainless steel, NOT brass like the last turbo I had. This shows no sign of going out anytime soon. I found a housing from a supra guy, and after he shipped it to me, it was the wrong one. He said it's for a gt42, but once I got it, looked at the casting, and mic'd it all, it will never fit. I believe it to be a housing for a GTS turbine wheel, like the 74 GTS turbos those supra owners all love. All is good, he's refunding the money, and i'll ship back the housing to him. Still looking for a gt42 vband 1.01 housing, so we shall see what comes of it. Hot parts are all at Primo getting their treatment/coating, and the valve cover too, since the corner of it got fucked up somehow. New color, after looking over my options will still be black, but with a "fire sparkle" top coat..basically a little red glitter. Not overly excessive though, but just a hint of it. We shall see how it all turns out. Once I find the housing though, and get everything back, car will be together, running, and doing pulls within an hour. So, I'm just playing the waiting game. /end update. |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
I'm waiting on reply from the guy I found.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Thanks buddy. I have a pic somewhere I sent to mike and them of both turbos sitting next to each other on my toolbox, but I can't find it on my phone..I prolly deleted it already.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Sounds good swifty! I hope everything comes together soon!

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Just do two sc61's in parallel. I will sell you the first one today. :) Good luck on the truck turbo.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Try posting that 1.28 housing on here, someone might be interested:

I had it saved so I could zoom in a little better on the small screen on my phone. |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Nice to see that you're getting it back on the road soon! When do I get a ride?? ;)
