Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Two things.

First: If you can see the bits of debris, why can't you stick a small pick in there and get it out.
B: if all that effort to get it out without actually touching it with something didn't work, how is oil going to get it out?

p.s. isn't there a filter on the oil pickup tube?

First: if you can see debris on the top side of the cracks and could get it with a pick, how do you know the bottom side is clean? How are you going to get at that with a pick?

B: Hot oil and with the hot oil splashing around can cause some weird things to happen.

A filter on the pickup doesn't always stop everything or much of anything little. On an expensive engine build like this, an oil pan isn't all that much for peace of mind.

This, I haven't seen it myself so I can only relay what DB has told me. I trust Danny so I will just get a new pan.

If there's anything that could break debris loose It would be hot oil splashing around. Definitely worth it for peace of mind. It only takes one little chunk of metal to get into a bearing to make you do everything over AGAIN. Good luck!

Yea not looking to do everything yet again. Thanks for the luck, hopefully I get some this time around :)

Question, since the thread originally started with a poll, looking back at everything, are you happy with the decision you made?

Well the poll wasn't made until the stock motor blew up but I can still try to answer the question.

It's especially difficult to answer when I have had my car for a very very limited time the past two summers, only 2 months or so, not very much time to enjoy it. Financially I wish I sold the car when it first broke, or at least just put another stock motor back in it and kept it tame. However part of me loves to have a car very few people have locally and I enjoy trying out new stuff. it's really a double edged sword I guess, I love it when it works and hate it when its broken. I am tired of spending money on it on for sure though, I have lots of other stuff I want to buy.

So if it breaks again anytime soon and its not a tranny/diff problem then I will have to strongly consider selling it but for now I will enjoy it. I guess to answer the question I don't regret keeping it just yet but its a close call indeed.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Well I know I debated the o2 dump before but this thread pushed me over the edge.

http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-dyn...p-results.html

I was always going to get one anyway but with being out of town for work I get to expense everything, gas, food etc etc..so I have a bit extra money to play with.

So anyway, MAP o2 downpipe was ordered and should be ready early next week.

Sorry Shawn, my car is loud anyway though :)

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Wow, never would have guessed open dump made that HUGE of a difference.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Doubt it does, I call skewed results.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I know it makes more power over my current setup (the AMS downpipe) but I highly doubt it is worth anywhere near what they showed. I think half is believable though.

English is usually pretty legit from what I've seen. I believe them that it will make additional power and especially more torque. I am trying to build an efficient setup this time where I don't have to push it to make power. 26-28psi is all I want to run, the less the better.

Regardless, supporting one of our local shops (MAP) is never a bad thing :)

Kracka 08-14-2011 07:09 AM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Agreed, eitherway I bet you are right, it will be with more power.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I'd never want an o2 dump on my car, but if it meant an extra 50whp on my current setup, I'd be hard pressed to not at least try it. However, I just simply cannot live with one on a DD; my brother's DSM had one and I bought it from him and drove it for a while....too loud for a DD.

Murlo26 08-14-2011 01:12 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Well I think its worth a shot to see if it affects power that much. My car isn't a DD anymore anyway so it won't bother me so much, not to mention my car is already stupid loud.

I am hoping for an easy 450-475whp on DB's dyno with 25psi or so. If the dump helps me get there then awesome! :)

Yay, I get to be louder and more obnoxious now! :)

Thanks MAP, looks like a good piece, can't wait to see it in person. Anyone need an AMS downpipe?

Still waiting on the EF4 from MAP though, it sounds like there is some custom piece for their mill they are waiting on...damn custom parts I tell ya.

$350 shipped I think is fair, I hold it sold a few weeks ago for $375 shipped and that seems to be the "norm" for an AMS one, so $350 seems legit.

PM me though and we can discuss further.

I hope I don't regret mine haha. I had one on my RSX and it was loud but I was only running like 11psi, not 25+ haha. I am excited to see it all come together for sure.

I had mine dumped and it wasnt bad for most of the time. Down fall was that if the law was anywhere close they knew if you were screwing around.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Spoke with Danny at DB today, he said this week went very well at the shop and he kicked ass, which was great news for getting to my car :)

He said the motor is going into the car late monday or tuesday morning. We were aiming for the cookout but he said that prolly won't happen with all the leak checking and stuff needed, so cars and coffee the next weekend is my goal :)

He did find out my new injectors need some new spacers and I confirmed they are supposed to come with them on evoxforums. So I will be getting DW to overnight some Monday.

I also brought up my clutch and asked him how it looked since its out now. he said 3 of the pucks are missing material I guess. he said he would prolly replace it but he is going to have Shane look at it and let me know, might be stuck getting a new disc in there to freshen it up. I don't want to but if its going to crap out in 2000 miles mind as well.

I launched my car like twice so I wonder if the CMC issues and killing it all the time driving it a bunch with a failing CMC had something to do with it :(

Anyway, next week or early the week after it should be driving time! WOO WOO!!!

Kracka 08-19-2011 09:04 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Overall great progress! I say new clutch disc for sure, its already out, cheap peace of mind in the scheme of things.

Murlo26 08-19-2011 09:08 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

It's cheap in the grand scheme of things yes, but I am well, cheap now as I have little money to spare haha. Maybe I shouldn't of bought that new downpipe. If Shane says to replace it i will, it will probably only take a few days to get there.

Anyone have a stock turbo laying around they don't need? Just in case the EF4 gets held up a bit longer haha.

My stock turbo is in a box in the attic of my garage. I don't have any of the lines or anything for it, but you're welcome to borrow it :D

Cool, thanks haha. I am so tempted to do stock turbo regardless because it would be totally v8 style :)

I think the EF4 will be ready tuesday/wednesday though so shouldn't have to worry about it.

A little earlier than last year at least, I get September which is my favorite driving month anyway, usually all windows down then.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Been a while since I updated this, a while for me anyway. Still no car but I am going on week 7 in Kansas here so I am not too bummed.

This arrived last week I think?
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...824_114656.jpg

The new MAP EF4 finally! It has a 1.7bar actuator so just under 25psi. So I actually might just run wastegate pressure for my DD tune, we will see what happens.

Danny had said he was going to have the car running by today but I didn't hear from him this week at all and as i am out of town I didn't have time to really call. I hope he is close as I will be home next week for sure and it'd be a nice welcome home present to have the car ready.

And as far as the o2 dump goes, I don't really love the sound either, but power makes me happy and if I can make another 30-40whp at a given boost level because of it with a more stable boost curve, yes please. My car when I get on it is very very loud regardless so I don't mind.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I don't know about WG dumps after being in brandon's car, I know for his car it is a complete waste to take away from the glorious sound of the motor and turbo.

Plus that dump is loud as fuck. Good luck, be nice to finally get a ride in this thing!!
