Re: The Gun Thread
that's just an old norinco 45 i bought years ago as a build up project that just never went anywhere...now days, you can just buy 1911's pretty much set up pretty well from the factory...but back in the day, the norinco was actually a solid piece to start a custom build from...but like i said...just never happened...oh well...lol

I'll post pictures soon, it's a Cooper Arms model 21 with a Leupold VX-111 14x40 scope and a Harris Bi-pod. I have it dialed in to a 1" radius right now at 200 yards. I have to find a longer range now, lol. This is gonna be my Prairie Dog murderer soon enough. :guns: |

Re: The Gun Thread
I am looking into getting a 1911. Do you guys have any suggestions? I am looking to spend probably around 650ish.
Here are some I have been looking at quick. http://www.1911pistols.com/item/5797...08LP_1911.aspx http://www.1911pistols.com/item/1666...__1911_45.aspx http://www.1911pistols.com/item/6696..._LTWT_ALU.aspx http://www.1911pistols.com/item/1675...CP_5_12RB.aspx |
Re: The Gun Thread
from what you have posted there...well I used to not care for taurus...but over the years they have gotten much much better...and my local shop has sold a lot of those guns...for the price, you get A LOT of options...i mean options that would put most 1911's well into the grand range so in my opinion, that's the best bang for your buck.
Springfield makes a good 1911, but their prices are in line with the rest of the higher end guns...for those taurus options you would have to pay a lot more...they 1911 you have listed here is a plain jane mil spec model...so it's really up to you. You are limited on your budget tho...1911's are not exactly the poor man's bargain gun...so in that price range, i would have to say, taurus would be the way to go. |
Re: The Gun Thread
I was also looking at the glock 21. Any thoughts on that?
|
Re: The Gun Thread
you need to go to a shop and hold them in your hand...typicaly 1911 guys dont like glocks...has to do with a lot of things...most of them relate to the feel of the grip unless you are looking at a glock 21sf (slim frame)...it has a slightly smaller sized grip because the grip size is a common complaint with shooters. The glock also sports lower bore axis which is really nice for follow up shots and perceived recoil. The good news is the glock is supremely reliable and a good all around gun...it is technically a dual action only striker fired gun and is fielded all over the planet...but many 1911's are as well...another option is always the XD...think of the xd as the gun that bridges the design gap between 1911's and glocks...good guns too
|
Re: The Gun Thread
Ya thats the only thing I dont really like about the glock is that is thicker. I am going to go to the gun shop sometime soon and hold some of the various guns and see what fit better.
|
Re: The Gun Thread
see if they have a "SF" model you can check out...feels quite a bit better in my opinion
|
Re: The Gun Thread
Will do thanks for your help, I am really leaning twords a 1911 since they are a lot slimmer.

Went shooting with my Dad and his friend last weekend, first time shooting high powered rifles, also first time shooting at 100yds. Brought the .22 with bead sights out to 100yds but it was pretty useless. Here's a pic of the M1A:

Re: The Gun Thread

Re: The Gun Thread
I've love to but I'll be back home in Iowa this weekend for a wedding. At home I go to the Isaac Walton because it's a mile from my parents house, but here I've only been to the Bill's in Robbinsdale.

Re: The Gun Thread
Update on the backup Draco, Midwest Industries quad rail and Hogue grip are finally on.
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...nion/004-2.jpg Quad rail is very nice quality and will be the perfect mount for my aimpoint. http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...nion/007-1.jpg Hogue by far makes the best grips hands down. If you own an AK or any firearm I highly suggest you pick one up. http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...Minion/008.jpg |

The next gun I'm buying is a 1911, I will probably carry that. Even though it will be full frame, I'm hoping it will be ok for CCW since it's single stack. |

Re: The Gun Thread
The right holster makes all the difference. You'd be suprised what's concealable
|
Re: The Gun Thread
I carry my G21 from time to time is a blackhawk paddle holster, the nice thing about Minnesota is we don't have to conceal if we don't want to. When I am going out and want to conceal or if I am working I usually carry my LCP. I am looking at getting a G23 next for a kind of "Best of both worlds" scenario. I agree with mlomker, weight is usually the biggest issue when carrying a gun. If its to heavy, or not comfortable, you wont carry it with you all the time and that defeats the point of having a carry license in the first place.

Re: The Gun Thread
Very nice guns everyone. I just picked up a 1943 Mosin Nagant, I would like to try and go shooting sometime soon.
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...photos_010.jpg http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...photos_009.jpg It came with the a strap, 2 hip pouches, gun oil, a set of tools, and a bayonet. This is my first gun, and purchased just to shoot at a range or someones land for fun. ~John |
Re: The Gun Thread
I also have joined the gun owners club as well. Currently in the safe:
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/IMAG0001.jpg Mossberg 20ga Turkish Mauser 8mm Mosin Nagant Marlin .3030 The Mosin and Mauser are actually mine, the other two (along with many others) will be mine in due time. P.S. first pic I took with my new phone. Not too shabby. |
Re: The Gun Thread
mosin-nagants are fun guns to shoot. Cheap ammo, accurate, and there are a ton of parts out there for them.

Re: The Gun Thread
That was my LCP he was looking at. I bought a Kel-tec P3AT before the LCP, and it was shit. Goes bang about half the time. Kel-tec said they would fix it for free, but I have to ship it to them, and to ship guns, you have to ship overnight and it's like $70. About 25% of the value of the gun. The Kel-tec had tons of rough edges and machining marks in it. I polished most of them out, and it operates a ton smoother, but still doesn't go bang all the time.
So I bought the LCP.... It's the SAME gun, just made by ruger, and finished a lot better. There's a couple of ounces of extra weight to it, which is good, because if you limp wrist the kel-tec at all, it won't eject the shell. The LCP doesn't get that way until you've almost emptied the magazine and most of the weight is gone. The Ruger also has a slide lock, which the kel-tec doesn't have. I put 260 rounds through it the day I got it to break it in, and it worked flawlessly. My palm was pretty bruised up the next day though. :) The slide to the ruger fits on the Kel-tec perfectly. Obviously, firing it would be dumb, but they are exactly the same design. Kel-tec sued Ruger over it, but Ruger proved that Kel-tec stole the design from somewhere else and the lawsuit was dropped. One interesting thing is that Kel-tec says you can use +P ammo in the gun when carrying and infrequently, but Ruger tells you not to use it at all. So I'm just carrying it with crappy Winchester white box right now until I can find a good defense round that is not +P. I carry with a Fobus E2 Evolution holster made for the P3AT. It's a great little paddle holster that holds the gun close to you (outside the waistband). I carry above my right rear pocket, or above my left front pocket if I'm driving. With just a shirt pulled over it, it's nearly impossible to tell that I'm carrying. If I was going to get another carry weapon, I'd look at this one from Boberg (they are a MN company): http://www.bobergarms.com/ Not cheap, but really small for a 9mm. I tried carrying a Glock 19 for awhile, but it was way to big and bulky, especially when traveling. With the LCP, you forget it's even there. One thing that's just bizarre to me is that Glock doesn't have anything that competes with the LCP. That's a huge market right now, and they're throwing it all away. If they had something as small as an LCP and that worked as well, I'd buy it in a second. |
Re: The Gun Thread
Totally agree. I have a G21 that I carry almost never due to the size and weight. Probably going to get a G23 next. If you need a carry every day throw in your pocket and go gun the LCP is pretty sweet. The LCR 357 is catching my eye as well.
