Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
For comparison, C7's are putting down around 420whp Dynojet in stock form.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
The C6 is now safely in MN! My dad flew down Friday and we drove it up Sunday. The cruise was set between 80-85 MPH the whole way and it averaged 26 MPG so pretty impressive in my opinion.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Top up or down?
|
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Up for the cross-country trip, but was down plenty Friday & Saturday

What are your thoughts on C6 vs C7, now that you have some time in both? (Just curious) |
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Sort of like comparing an Evo IX to Evo X; the 7 is more refined and overall improved/better with more technology packed into it, but the 6 is still a very fun car and more of a raw sports car (no where near as raw as a IX though, still can be a comfortable touring car). The C6 does have a slightly roomier cabin than the C7 too. The engines are very strong in both and the cornering grip impressive.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Nice, thanks for that.
Did you see the article about the "final 638" Chevy is going to bring back a few C6 ZR1 cars that weigh 29xxlbs and make a bit more power. |
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
I did not! Got a link?

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Thanks, that's really badass!
|
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
yeah, I need to get into some C6s and FDs this summer to figure out what I want.
|
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
After bombing around in my dad's C6 I was thought, "Damn, why didn't I buy a used one of these instead of the Evo X back in 2010?!"

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Just what I wanted to hear.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Did a quick photoshoot before taking the C6 to MN!

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
PlanoEvo's father recently passed and in his will gave his Corvette, with only 12k miles on it, to Andrew.
|
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Wow, crappy to hear about Andrew's dad, my condolences. :(
Great photoshoot though, red/white/blue, murican in Texas! Is it just me or does the C6 look quite a bit narrower than the c5/c7? Also, the c5 still doesn't look as dated as the c4 (i hate the c4) but its started to look less sexy unfortunately, just because the c6/c7 look solid. All great cars though. |
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Likely just the angle, but let me dig into the dimensions...I do know the C6 is 5" shorter than the C5 though.
|
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Length/Width/Height
C5: 180 x 74 x 48" C6: 175 x 73 x 49" C7: 177 x 74 x 49" |
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Ha, so I was RIGHT! 1"!
lol |
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
MURICA! great pics!
interesting the C6 is not as wide.. im sure color plays a bit into how they look in these pictures. Would be interesting to see a C6Z next to your car for comparison. The Z is much more agressive looking than the C6. Also it looks like the they reduced the rear overhang on each model. |

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
UH OH!!! I couldn't resist! AFE just came out with their new Momentum Cold Air Intake System for the C7 that has shown great results (+18whp/+22wtq) and offered it at a group-buy price below dealer-cost, plus threw in a 2nd filter and cleaning kit for me.
I'm unsure when I want to install it, and which filter to use first. I'm leaning towards the Pro5R (blue oiled cotton filter) first then the ProDryS (white dry synthetic filter) once the 5R gets dirty and needs a cleaning. http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/IMAG1401.jpg http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/IMAG1402.jpg It's tough to tell from the pictures, but the filters are HUGE! This is probably the nicest intake kit I've ever seen for a car, you can definitely tell a lot of engineering and R&D went into the design of it. Turbo time!

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Wow, that's a lot more of a gain then I would expect on a well-tuned factory car. Apparently they left plenty on the table. :D

Mmmm, ECS. Nothing but great things to say about them. Do it!!

No

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
The dealership had my car while I was in Chicago for a few days...long story short, I got a new air filter and an alignment covered under warranty :)
|
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
so...no afe filter?
|
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Still sitting in the box, wanted to get everything sorted out with the dealership first! I'll likely install it sometime soon. I am tempted to order the Diablo InTune soon too.
The dry-sump system basically purged oil into the intake pipe and that oil then drained out through the air filter. Chevy initially over-stated the oil capacity so the oil being over-filled is what caused that issue. Since the OEM paper air filter was drenched in oil they replaced it under warranty while only filling the oil to halfway between the min & max mark; I expect a revised dipstick will be made. Luckily I hadn't installed an aftermarket filter or intake yet otherwise it would have been ruined :) All should be well now though! |
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
How does something like that get through testing? Sheesh! Glad you got it sorted out under warranty.
|
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
I think like any other first-year model, there are always things that don't pop up until more real-world miles occur. Chevy is aware of it now though and has released two TSB's pertaining to it (with the 2nd being released just a week ago). I think the initial test/prototype cars have tighter controls with only the factory techs touching them rather than the factory-certified dealer techs.
|
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
How many quarts does the engine take - originally from the factory, and after the new TSBs?
