Took a look today, results are kinda screwy:

Compression: 130 110 86 121
Leakdown: 18% 23% 33% 20%

This is using my cheap harbor freight leak down tester, I usually remove about 10% from the leak down results.

Edit forgot to add: leak down on #3 was *really* hard to tell where it was going. Maybe rings but sound in the valve cover was ever-so-slight.

What he ^ said. Thanks again scheides, I think I may go with with we talked about just getting it tuned and go from there seeing what happens.

But everyones feedback on my cars results are very welcome as I am no expert.

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions

Honestly I would get something done soon, it probably won't last very long and when it goes it will probably take out more. I hate waiting for an engine to go, then you have to deal with metal shavings in the system or it may even punch a hole in the block.

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions

I agree with jet. Do something before it let's go. It's so much more hassle to deal with.

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions

I think im just going to get it on the dyno in the next two weeks to see if it puts any power down. Since it doesnt burn oil and yet still runs and drives like a champ.

tmosser 02-22-2013 02:39 PM

machine shops

Anyone know any shops that have a 4g63 torque plate? I cant find anything around here to bore over my block if I decide to build it

Re: machine shops

MAP should or Gosh.

Merged, you don't need two threads regarding the same topic :)

Wagamon's has one too, but I would recommend the other 2 first.

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions

Yeah map has one but their out like 8 weeks I was hoping on having it done in 2 to 3

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions

I am not saying necessarily to use MAP, but good machine work is important. Just make sure to use a quality place.

Good luck.

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions

Yeah I hear ya. I actually am just going to look for a 2.0 rebuild with standard pistons and have tc automotive in Mankato clean and prep the block etc. I dont need a 2.3 like I wanted so a 2.0 will save me a hassle and some $. Plus I could always just rev the 2.0 higher so If I wsnted I still could do a bigger turbo. Loss of spool but gain of a longer band.

Gosh, right next to DB.

Well now I see wesico makes std size 2.3l pistons. Hrm...

you need a magic 8 ball to decide man

I do. My gf even said you have the money so just f'ing do it I want to see this thing done! But I still just don'tknow what I wanna do argh!!!!!

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions

I'll help you. And this will be the final approach you must decide tonight. Do you want high revving where the turbo kicks in at 5000+ or do you want a stock like feel torque monster?

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions

Wait since im getting slight blow by on a cyl or two dont I need to bore it out to straighten the cylinders or will new rings seal her up?

That is a good question, I'd say a 2.3 would certainly take care of it. Or you can get a new 2.0 block if you desire that setup more but the 2.0's are getting way more expensive every second

tmosser 02-22-2013 10:35 PM

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions

Well since wesico makes 2.3l pistons in std size which is what I wanted. But itll prob need a bore to get everything straight

evotuner 02-22-2013 10:39 PM

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions

Aint nothing wrong with a 2.3. I'll be joining you someday if you do :)

tmosser 02-23-2013 03:34 AM

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions

Since talking with a couple friends, coming to conclusion no one knows or will know how long the motor has had thrse low numbers (ive seen posts from 09 than 2010 on this motor showing weird numbers from chucke) im going to install new plugs and a diy cop set up I bought from troy, new air filter and a gs 3port ebc and take it to shane within the next two weeks and get it tuned. If it makes power im just going to leave it alone if its a dog ill rebuild it. So the dyno will be my truth moment.

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions

After having a 2.4 I would never go back to a 2.0 on a street car. My 2 pence.

CornFed2.4 02-23-2013 09:48 AM

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions

2.4 is beast on streets. Just cruising out of boost was awesome.

Shane@DBPerformance 02-25-2013 09:35 AM

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions

If your motor has some decent miles on it or it needs to be bored, then you can't use std size pistons.

tmosser 02-25-2013 02:24 PM

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions

Shane, after talking with a couple people I have another option of just getting it tuned seeing if it makes power than go from there. Even though it has low compression if it made descent power what do you think? Id like to make the car last till next winter so I can save up money for a rebuild but I dunno if itll make it all summer.

Kracka 02-25-2013 02:27 PM

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions

Don't beat the hell out of it and it'll probably be fine; or do beat the hell out of it and add oil if/as needed.

tmosser 02-25-2013 02:50 PM

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions

It doesnt use any oil in between oil changes

Kracka 02-25-2013 03:12 PM

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions

Then you're worrying about compression numbers that a beater-DSMer would die for ;)

tmosser 02-25-2013 03:28 PM

You sure make me feel better about this. Lol

I hope a beater dsmer doesn't hope for those #. 1 of those #'s are within the serviceable limit.

But not burning oil between oil changes that's a different story ;)

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions

It was a joke, but we all know of at least a few beater DSM's running around with all holes <100!

tmosser 02-25-2013 03:34 PM

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions

So your saying itd good? It really dont I daily the car and change oil at 3/4k and i dont have to add any in between. I use 10w-30 ams oil synthetic.

I wish I would of ran my old motor that tested out similar to that, but the low cyl. was a bent rod.

Not at all, not even close, but if it's running OK and you're fine with it as-is then just keep driving it until you can afford to rebuild the engine.

I just said screw it and bought a motor from topspeed performance. And a twin disc rebuild from map. So everythings good. Now just need to figure out what im doing with my old motor.

A stock motor or built motor?

Who is Top Speed and what made you decide on them?
