Did the fenders save a lot of weight? What do you think of a CF hatch and lexan for a street car? |

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I was thinking of changing cam shafts. I’m currently running Brian Crower 280’s. I was on a shoe string budget when I purchased these. I’m sure that they are a bottle neck. I have yet to research this tho.
I’m thinking of using GSC S3 or Kelford 280’s. I don’t know??? Any DSM’s with experience on cam selection with big turbos, 67mm and up? I would like to improve the Time/MPH or run a little less boost and keep it in the single digits. |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Oh yea the update. I'm still waiting on Shep to get the new batch of gears in for my TX case. They said that they need a set for the shop car too. I'm patiently waiting, and have been since October.
If it goes any longer I will need to source a factory yoke and 23 spline case to get the car running/racing. |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Give a call to english if you are considering those GSCs from what I gather they work pretty closely with GSC in developing cams for mitsus.
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I have a factory yolk in a box, let me know if you need it.
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
There should be a lot of power left on the table with the BC's, the design on those is old as dirt. I'd also look into the bigger FP cams as well as the GSC's.
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I run Crower 288's (stage 4). They are degreed in on a 111 deg lobe separation. Max lift I .415" E .398".
With your 2.3 9500rpm and big turbo you will want the biggest cams that will fit. Motors are air pumps and if you can not get air in/out you will be hard pressed to make power. Idle and down low throttle will suffer but the extra power is worth it. It would be cool to see your 1g dyno graph overlaid with my car from the dyno day last year. |

The only dyno graph I have is from the mid 30 psi pull, think it was around 780-790WHP? MAP should easily set up an overlay, they have both files on their PC. Quote:

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Contact english about their brace for T-cases. They should be out now, Jeff bush is making them/head of them. But I know they have a few ready.
I'm gonna explode a case first. |

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
John's car makes over 800 for almost 2000 RPM, Nice.Yea I remember that MAP sensor issue, before my car broke on the dyno it showed something like 57psi! Haha. My AEM Log showed something around 44-45psi. This chart tells a good story of how F’ing crazy my evo is, period.
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
That green run was at 40psi even, and the rev limiter would have been 9800rpm.
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Looks like you could match the 1G with the Evo and 500 more RPM and maybe some tweaking. The Evo looks amazing!
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Man threads like this really make me wish I would have held into my Talon just a little longer so I would have time for it. Amazing car. Work looks second too none.

I wish I had a dyno number on the 1G with 40+ psi, I don’t think the 4202R was in its sweet spot yet at 35 psi on that chart. Who knows it’s all speculation anyways...The shit runs 9’s at 155+, I’m happy, I just want a transfer case now…Get it to the MAP event and have fun! Oh and I picked up the S3’s too. |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
So you are on stock transfer case and non built trans still on Evo?

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I’m not going to count on an upgraded T-case anymore. The 1G should make it to the MAP proving grounds with a stock transfer case! I just ordered my yoke conversion to adapt a factory case to a HD DSS 3.5” drive shaft. The off the shelf format from DSS is meant to only work with an upgraded T-case.
Now I need to: · Tear into the motor to take out the BC280 and install the GSC S3’s · Replace the timing gear and the keyway on the crank since last time the keyway groove was worn. · Remove the upgraded TX-case that grenaded. · Install the new fabricated yoke and factory Tcase. · Street tune WOT (hopefully the cams will help hold power out further in the band) The car should be running in a week or two, as normal in the nick of time for the event! I’m sure it will be hot off the street onto the trailer and heading out to BIR. Happy days again! Just shooting to get one clean pass in, haha. |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Nice! glad to see you're still planning on rocking the 1G at the PG!
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Awesome. Good luck those GSC S3s are sick, you should be happy with those.
I hope you get more than one clean pass. |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Damn that sucks your t-case puked on you. Good luck at BIR.
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Good luck!!!
I also picked up those cams so it will be good to hear what you think. Obviously my setup isnt the exact same but still cool to see what I can expect. |

If you need a lap top holder for those wot pulls, im your guy!! Good luck Mark!! Hopefully we can line up against each other and confuse everyone which car is which!!
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Sounds good to me! How's your car coming along?
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Driving it up to map in a few minutes to have the nhra chassis inspector check it out. Hopefully it should pass with flying colors. Let me know if you need a hand with your car!

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Good thing I decided to do a cam swap, I found 3 of the 5 nuts on my adjustable cam gears were finger tight. The shield plate that attaches to the head had one of the small fasteners ready to fall out. Who knows another couple of miles and the whole motor could have been F’d. Now the cam gears have Locktite Red applied.
The idle is a little rougher, not too bad though. You can physically see the difference in the cams when you set them side by side with the S3’s. The S3’s are monsters. I wish I could have done them when I built the motor, since I’m a little concerned about valve to piston clearance. I’m just going to let her buck and see what happens. I took the car around the block in front wheel drive mode and the tires break free at about 15 psi making the care useless. Now I know why transfer cases take so much abuse, it’s like the front have no aid in the traction department. These 1G’s are closer to rear wheel drives. Now I just need to get the transfer case in it and tune it up, should be exciting! |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Woo! Good to see a few cars getting ready for proving grounds! I'm excited to see you and Kevin both make some passes in this year. We have to have some fast cars around here, seems there's quite a few really quick 1g's nationwide this year.
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Most after market pistons have enough room with a 1mm over valve.
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Good to know John, I took a compression check after I smoked the front tires to almost 8k. All is good!
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I took out the broken transfer case and replaced it with a factory one. Now it's just a matter of some tuning and an oil change to get the new cams dialed in.
