Injectors are kind of a bitch but other than that not bad. I'll post a vid sometime in the next couple days.

Snapped a couple pics tonight after I parked it. So far I put a decent tune on it at 25psi. Gonna have to swap the coil pack back on cause I start breaking up around 6500. I can't imagine what it would feel like if I actually got traction! :drive1:

Looks really good Andy! Time for some sticky front tires and a limited slip?

4g63tcrazy 03-15-2010 12:07 AM

Re: 4g63tcrazy's new setup for 2010

Sticky tires for sure. Gonna save up for a pair of slicks. No limited slip, the thought of opening up the trans just doesn't appeal to me for some reason.

So far after driving it all over the place for the passed couple days I have ran into a couple problems. First being the bov hits the hood and pushes it up. Gonna have to get that section of piping redone with the bov moved down. Second, I melted the o2 sensor wiring. It was in between my block and turbo. Had a good 2" of space between them but I guess the heat was still too much. Not a big deal since I plan on locking it in open loop and tuning it that way. Third, the ignition cuts out when I give it full throttle and I approach 20psi. I know its the COP so I'm gonna have to swap that back out.

Other than those 3 small things, everything is great so far. No leaks and it's the turn key daily driven dsm it's been for the passed 3 years!

I know these setups look great but I wonder what kind of black magic it takes to make them work.

Ignition amplifier of some sort. Haven't really read up on it much though.

I was looking at my rims today and noticed that I have a nice bend from a pot hole in the drivers front tire... I hit a pot hole on 694 first night out with the car and didn't think much of it. The balance is still good and it holds air so I'm just gonna say fuck it and leave it. REALLY pisses me of though.

This setup looks good man! Are you gonna have Shane tune it or are you gonna run your own tune?

4g63tcrazy 03-15-2010 06:36 PM

Re: 4g63tcrazy's new setup for 2010

I'll probably run it on my own tune for awhile and then once I save up the money go to shane.

Re: 4g63tcrazy's new setup for 2010

Got some bad news.. I went over to chim55117's house to pick up some parts last night and I let the car idle in his driveway while we talked for a bit. When I got back in the car the coolant temp was all the way hot.. I guess my radiator fan stopped working on me and the car overheated. It pushed out about a gallon of coolant on his driveway. I let the car cool off and we filled the coolant back up. Drove fine on the way home. Woke up this morning to look the car over and started it up. The radiator hose got rock hard right away and I knew I warped the head.

I'm gonna take the head off tomorrow and while it's out upgrade the valve springs. Possibly get some L19's if I can find some cheap. It would also be a great time to replace all the timing components, but I don't think I'll have the money for that.

I will be re-using my mls 4layer headgasket. I want to pick up a set of l19's though for sure.

Re-using a head gasket? :scared:

Why not just do it right and get it over with?

Re: 4g63tcrazy's new setup for 2010

You can re-use this headgasket, it's been done many times. It's not a composite gasket, it's metal. I only had it in the car for 2k miles and it still looks brand new.

Today I had a friend help me take off the head and we had it off in a little over an hour. Definately helps to have such a simple engine bay. I drove out to MAP and picked up some evo 8 valve springs and retainers. Then I stopped by Primo and dropped the springs and head off.

Here's a pic of what it looks like now. I might take this opportunity to clean the bay up some more. I never really liked the way I tucked it in the first place.

I'd be very leary of using a head gasket after it blew, no matter what kind of gasket it is.

I have heard of people re-using MLS gaskets after just pulling a head (not blown), but never heard of someone re-using a blown gasket.

The headgasket did not blow, I warped the head. I warped it so bad when I took the final last 4 studs out (all 4 corners) you could hear the head lifting/peeling off the gasket. I also overheated it, then drove the car 5 mins back home, with a perfectly fine coolant temp. So there was no real abuse on the gasket's end.

Thanks! Tonight I took some time removing the engine harness. I got it out and started taking out some of the connectors I wont be using. Then I'll wrap it back up and decide where to run it.

Re: 4g63tcrazy's new setup for 2010

Even still, I would not re use a gasket that was even pushing coolant. That means there's some kind of flaw in some area. You can't tell me that it didn't damage the gasket at all.

Re: 4g63tcrazy's new setup for 2010

dont be a cheap ass and buy a new HG. I would never use a HG that has pushed coolant over even though it is a mls. I have reused my mls HG's over and the arps without problems but never pushed or overheated

on a 2nd note I have told you a few times that I still have the center cap for the last rim if you want it. we are moving into our new house on the 1st so if you want it let me know or it will be trashed

Maybe I should finally get that from you huh? PM me with a quote for shipping and I'll paypal you the money.

Well lately I have been messing with the wiring harness. I removed it from the car and opened it up. I removed all the wires that went to things I won't be needing anymore.

Here's all the wires I took out.
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1030232.jpg

Box full of electrical tape and wire loom plastic crap.
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1030233.jpg

Got everything sorted out.
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1030231.jpg

Taped it all back up.
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1030235.jpg

I plan on running it through a new hole and I'll weld up the original one. The harness will sit down and run along the crossmember. At least that's the plan for now til I actually put it in and see what I'm working with.

Thanks! It's very time consuming and if you don't know wiring very well it can be a huge headache. For some reason I've always enjoyed wiring and electronics so it isn't all that bad.

I started installing the wiring harness today. Here is what I got so far:

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1030236.jpg

I mounted it along the back of the crossmember and then the wires for the MAF and fuse box will be ran along the frame rail.

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1030237.jpg

I plan on repainting the whole firewall once I get everything sorted out.

Re: 4g63tcrazy's new setup for 2010

Got more done today on my day off. I decided to run the harness along the side of the rear motor mount and up behind the intake manifold. This way you wont be able to see the wire at all.

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1030322.jpg

Next I patched up the hole where the harness used to run through. Then I filled all the holes that wont be used.

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0325001656.jpg

After an hour of sanding. It was ready for paint. I went to Carquest and they mixed me up a can of paint according to my color code. And here is what I ended up with.

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1030323.jpg

Where the harness used to run through
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...0/P1030317.jpg

I still have some touching up to do on some of the lines. I might do the rest of my engine bay since now would be the time to do it.

I also have some L19's on the way and I'll be ordering a balance shaft eliminator kit and new timing belt soon.

Great work

Re: 4g63tcrazy's new setup for 2010

I used a piece of stainless steel cut to size and welded it from the inside for the wire harness hole and bondo for the little holes.

Looking a lot better ;)

Im jealous of that harness.

I too used bondo on the small threaded holes, and has held up really well. Where are you putting your injector resistor pack?

Is the small underhood fusebox still gonna be in the fenderwell or moved again?

Your car is gonna be pretty ballin' this year ;) Makes me want to keep working on my 1g!

I moved the resistor pack to the inside of the car.

Fusebox is still in the stock sidemount location. I would like to move it inside but that would be way more work then I wanna do.

Glad I can contribute to you wanting to keep your car! ;)

Thanks. Too bad I would never wanna do all this again. So much time consuming work! It's kind of a good thing I over heated the car and warped the head. Now I have all this time to get things done the way I've wanted to for awhile.
