yeah, that's a heavy car for being so small. All that amazing high carbon steel should have been replaced with aluminum. Then it would cost 30k.

It is the same size as an M3 and weighs over 200 lbs less...

I want that 2.0T R-spec model! Just like an EVO rs and cheaper that the regular 2.0t Track!

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

So are the R-Spec the only ones with an LSD rear end?

The 2.0T models are going to be dogs in stock form at that wieght and if they only really make the rated HP. It's like the power to weight ratio of an NA Supra or SC300.

I am seriously considering putting off a house for this car. lol. My girlfriend doesn't like that idea.

All 4 cylinders can get the brembos, LSD, sport suspension, and 19's as an option package. The R-spec one just gets rid of crap to lighten the car. I think it has cloth seats, no 10 speaker radio, no HIDs, etc. Maybe even a few less airbags?

Eh as for being a dog, they still get 30mpg. So thats kinda what I'd expect. Thats where we come in to up the power!
I'd like to see how the manual transmissions are.

I read about hyundai describing their "low boost" engine as being more refined and smoother. They probably kept the boost low to keep the power low so people would buy the v6... It even makes peak torque at like 2000 rpm.

asshanson 01-29-2009 02:19 PM

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

Yea the track model says it has the LSD and pretty much all the r-spec performance options. I wonder what the black leather with red cloth inserts will look like compared to the all black cloth seats... It would be nice if they offered different color inserts to match the car color maybe, or at least something besides red.

I would buy a house while prices are down and interest rates are extremely low, you never know when interest rates could be back in the 10-16% range like in the 80s.

The way Hyundai phrases it as "low boost" engine in their literature makes it almost seem like they are trying to say that you could turn it up.

Yeah, a house by far. This looks like an awesome DD though!

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

I wonder what the dual continuously variable valve timing means. Just advancing/retarding or different lifts too? What does Hyundai have on their other cars?

Also how does it detect if you have premium or regular fuel? Just senses knock and changes timing maps or lowers boost?

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

Im guessing both cams have the ability to advance retard. Like vtec, mivec and vanos.

Evo MIVEC just has advance retard, but I believe the 4G MIVEC is way better and also has different lift/duration profiles, like Honda VTEC.

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

From the sounds of it, the R-Spec is gonna have all the performance stuff of the Track package, it just won't have the leather, the sound system, or the HIDs. The LSD rear end will only come on the Track, and R-spec versions for the 2.0, and only the Track package for the v6. I'm still planning on the 2.0 with the track package.

The CVVT is just advance and retard for both cams. There are no lift or duration changes. Each cam is individually advanced/retarded depending on engine rpm and load.

It sounds like they're running something like 8 or 9 psi stock, so I'm sure that with an MBC there's plenty more to be pulled out of the stock turbo. And with the higher compression ratio, it shouldn't take as much boost to make decent power.

If you buy a house before April, the Fed will give you $7500 tax credit on taxes that you get back this year.... Which would make for a very good down payment on the car and your payments wouldnt be dick. :D

True, but you'd also have house payments. lol.

Putting off getting your own home soley in exchange for a Hyundai wouldn't be a good choice in my opinion.

Red looks quite nice:

But so does black:

http://bkmania.com/bbs/data/bk_gallery/DSC05291.JPG

But God Dammit... I am in the same boat... looking at buying my first house this spring, but also want an R-Spec when they come out :frown: Good thing they don't arrive state-side until late this year as a 2010 model, so I have some time.

If they can keep the price reasonable it should do wonders for their brand.

I just found out that the official pricing will be released at the Chicago auto show. The show runs Feb. 13 till the 22nd.

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

Im guessing it will be above 23k Base.

Kevin 1G Drummer 01-30-2009 12:29 PM

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

^^ I dunno about that. Base V6 maybe. They're trying hard to compete with the Camaro for cheapest car with 300hp. The bottom-of-the-barrel Camaro will be 23k. But that's with no options at all.

sleepydsm 01-30-2009 12:32 PM

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

Everywhere I read was the base was going to be sub $20k.

I like the black roof on the red one, I wonder if that's custom or if some just come like that. The others I've seen don't.

That black one is sweet. I want one.

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

Ill be really surprised if they come out below 20k. Look how expensive the ralliart is, and it shouldnt be.

Lets hope its sub 20. By the time you add alot of options, LSD, Wheels, HIDs, leather, etc 25+.

Halon 01-30-2009 01:08 PM

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

I like both the Red and the Black ones. I don't think I've seen one in a color I didn't like so far.

The black roof is custom. A lot of people in Korea have just taken black vinyl and laid it out on the roof. I kinda like the way that looks too. There's one shop that did a matte black finish using vinyl. It looks kinda nice. I'll try to dig up a pic of it. Also Peter, the Ralliart is a completely different car, so it's kinda hard to compare the price of that car to this car.

Kevin 1G Drummer 01-30-2009 03:42 PM

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe

It's actually easier, and far cheaper to wrap it in vinyl. A lot of businesses use vinyl wraps on company cars for advertising.

Had my girl who works for Hyundai find out some info today.

Cars will be in late Feb. or early March. No pricing as of yet. There is no waiting list right now like there was with the sedan when it came out. They are going to get in at least six at Walser to start.

Link with some good info
