All I can say after getting up close and personal with the laser this weekend, is that thing fuckin owns.

Did I ever give you the other coils I had laying around? It would be something simple to check.

Nope I didn't get that from you. Which of the two did you replace so far? I'm thinking replacing the other should be my next move.

I am not for sure which one I replaced. I got a spare coil minus the wiring and just replaced the one that I could see was arcing. Give me a few minutes to dig them out of their hiding place and I will snap some pics or something.

2 Attachment(s)
The first is a pic of where it was arcing.

The second is a pic of what I have left. It doesnt mean that the missing one is the one I replaced though.

Re: Laser's $100 Project Thread

Thanks for the info. Jeremy Hassler (armthelaser) and his wife Stacy were nice enough to donate a new coil pack to the project along with a few other misc. things the Laser has been needing. Lets hope this clears up the high-boost misfire issue so I can be at full power this weekend at the DB dyno-day!

Returned front brake rotors for $40 and I only paid $30, so I'll be adding that $10 to my fund.

Haha nice work so far, that exhaust is awesome!

The stock exhaust housing and o2 housing should be sold this week at Applebees and I hear rumors of the stock cat being worth $80 at the recyclers.

Just to add to the cheapness of this project I gave up on cutting all the way through the pipe to get the tip off and just bent and broke off the final inch of metal.

I do appreciate that, it really adds a little rusty jagged flare to the rear! LOL

I wonder if theres any legal liability there with some bum getting tetanus from your exhaust tip? Haha, I love it.

That bum should keep his lips off my pipe unless he wants to get infected.

Hey, at least now you don't have to worry about some hobo stealing your cat.

He got very violent with my tip.

matt D. was hacking at that thing for at least 30min

The tip went limp once I got a bigger tool to hack with.

dident you end up ripping it off the last little bit

Matt D. 10-16-2007 09:01 PM

Re: Laser's $100 Project Thread

Yeah, but it was pretty stiff before I put the bigger tool to use.

Re: Laser's $100 Project Thread

I ended up replacing the coilpack last night and it helped, but its still not liking anything above 13 psi. When I get some more money in the fund from selling off stock parts I plan to get an AFC so maybe that will help.

Kracka 10-20-2007 06:43 PM

Re: Laser's $100 Project Thread

178 whp and 184 wtq at only 12 psi! As soon as I get a S-AFC I'll be able to richen it up (it was running an A/F ratio around 14:1), up the boost, and hopefully see even more power.

Shane at DB was also nice enough to give me a Supra sidemount intercooler with custom metal endtanks so that should also yield a nice gain!

I'd like to eventually, but we'll see what the budget looks like and what kind of hacking/fabbing its going to take to get the stock IC pipes hooked up to the SSMIC.

JCWhitney has mild steel bends pretty damn cheap.

NGK BPR7ES gapped at .026". Once I get all the issues sorted out I plan to widen the gap to .030". again.

Are you going to sell the 2nd set for over $50 to help pay for the SAFC?

Anyone have extra stock 1G and 2G IC piping laying around? I'm going to need to piece something together in order for this Supra SMIC to work. Maybe I should have some cheap metal pipes fabbed up... Mark? JET? Who wants beer/pizza?!?!

NGK BPR6ES is what you should run with anything more than 15psi. and is that damn thread ever gonna die!?!?!?!?

Check your facts son. The 6ES's are stock 1G DSM plugs, lightly modded DSM's should step one heat range cooler to the 7ES's.

I have some stock pipes/hose laying around you could have. Maybe even some 2.5" mandrel bends I would donate to the cause.
