Probably not since 1 was trashed and I don't want to just replace 1 tire. I prefer to change all 4. So I will probably just buy 4 new tires and call it done for a while. We will see come spring.

TireRack has a tire shaving machine and can shave a single tire to the same tread depth as your remaining tires. Although if the remaining 3 are already worn way down you may as well get 4. Just throwing it out as another option.

Ahhh, did not know that, that may be a cheap way to go for this summer at least.

Sirius is awesome! It helps quite a bit on long trips. But even on really long trips, the songs can get old because they play a lot of the same stuff over and over. But that's still better then getting no reception and having nothing to listen to but CD's. Just gives you more options. I have to renew my subscription here in a couple months.

WOOT! My father-in-law FTW!!! He's an accountant, and he upped my tax return by 33%, but only on the condition that we slam the original amount into an IRA, and the 33% we get as cash back. So, woot! and damn! at the same time, because I would have had enough for EMS and a big phat turbo for the evo but...it would have all gone into finishing my basement anyways.

I just clicked on the link on Page 5, that someone had posted last year. It would let you see how much you paid for your car tags if you don't have your receipt. But the link isn't working this year. Does anyone know how to get copies of these online?

And again, to all those who thought I'd be audited last year, never happened!

Hey Brandon, I was reading through your posts about deductions last year, also found this good one for new homeowners:

Private Mortgage Insurance (since I own less than 20%, few hundred $/year)

Since I have escrow my PMI and property tax are all going to be on my 1098 from my mortgage, easy enough to add.

You had $17k in deductions last year? Wow thats a ton, I'm going to have about $13k, I thought that was too much. I can't imagine another $4k in interest and tax.

Since you recently bought the house the mortgage interest and all that other stuff probably won't be more than the standard deduction (5 or 6 grand).

Tax preparation costs (software or person) are also deductible I found out.

Why do you have a 1099 form? Are you a contractor?

1099INT, sorry.

Re: Tax Returns!

I don't have that PMI because I went with TCF for my home loan, and they don't require it.

As for the 17k in deductions, ya that was alot. I haven't gotten anything from my banks yet, nor have I gotten my W2, so I have no idea on any of my stuff so far.

But again, does anyone know how to find receipts for your car tabs online?

I payed people to do mine for me till last year. I decided to try Turbo Tax, and I ended up getting myself almost $500 more than if I had gone back to the same guy.

Yup! Huge advances in the hacking of the stock ECU and I have a nice fat turbo sitting on my workbench waiting to go in.....as well as all that $$ in my roth IRA.

Anna just ran through the numbers on our taxes and came up with an insane amount of money for our return. Like a pee-your-pants amount. Still, it will go to her father the tax accountant before I need to actually change my shorts.

Nope, but once cars are I believe 7 years old its something like $39.50 plus fees of a few bucks.

That link actually worked for me just now.

For the Talon it was $35. But there is a statement underneath that states:

** The Minnesota Department of Revenue and the Internal Revenue Service have determined that for each passenger vehicle (cars and pickups) registered in the appropriate tax year, the registration tax less $35 can be deducted on itemized federal taxes.

I'm confused. Don't a lot of people have 1099 forms? I know I got one for both my Emigrant and ING savings acounts.

I was amazed how much I got last year while only working part time and going to school... I have NO idea what to expect this year since I made easily 2-3 times what I did in 06.

I've only gotten 1 W2 so far. I'm gonna be getting 3.:scared:

1099int forms are the ones you get for interest, a 1099 that Andrew thought I was referring to is the kind that self-employed people and a lot of salesmen get.

I didnt file last year, or the year before. so i prolly will file this year for the past 3 years.
I dont see how all of you are getting a ton of money back. its annoying because i have never gotten over $300 from state or fed.

Where the best place to have Taxes done at?

www.turbotax.com

If you don't want to do them yourself just go to H&R Block.

98gstaherns 01-17-2008 04:55 PM

Re: Tax Returns!

Is it any quicker to do it your self or H&R? Like as far as getting a return back

When I've used TurboTax and e-file with direct deposit into my checking account I generally have the state return back in 3-5 days and the federal return within 10. Going to H&R block will be about the same; they really do nothing but punch numbers into the software for you.

asshanson 01-17-2008 04:58 PM

Re: Tax Returns!

Pretty much everyone files electronically now, so if you do it yourself or at H&R Block you'll get all refunds by a week or two after it's filed.

Just double checking, but since I bought my Turbo Tax last year, I can just update it, and not have to buy a new copy, right?

Don't buy any copy, just do it on their website. Nothing to install, nothing to download.

I used to use turbotax, but tried Taxact.com last year because it costs a bit less and was recommended to me by a guy I work with. I liked it and will be using it again this year.

I agree! I used this last year and it worked fine. If my taxes were more complicated I might consider spending money for something, but mine are so simple it's a no-brainer. Just do it for free.

BTW, with my tax return I think I'll get a cup of coffee since that's about how much I'll get back. Either that I'll be buying coffee for a few hundred people at the IRS.

Ditto.

However, if I don't get my promotion at work in the next month or two I'm going to raise it to 1. I could be getting an extra $300/month and I'd still get a refund at the end of the year. It would make daily life less stressful having a few hundred a month extra.
