Also if you use GPS, most have a "Max Speed" log. Lets you keep your eyes on the road and hands on the wheel. In fact there's a silver stealth in my neighborhood with stock 9B turbos that has a GPS log of 167.5 before the driver ran out of road. Try doing that with a 14B or T25.

calculate the jack stand resistance into that too?

I have read that the 3s is the easiest car to get up to 200 mph for the least amount of money.
|
oops, i meant air resistance..

I was swaping tires and the car was on jack stands so i was like..wtf.. lets see.. so i put it in 5th gear and steped on it.. it got up to that speed within like 2 seconds.. just enough for the pic snap and thats it.
I had lug nuts tight so that the brakes wouldn't vibrate and lock up. lol the stupidest thing is the first pic i took was with my e-brake on .. LOL -E |
p.s. I still want a ride in your car though
|
i had you guys going for a little while.. i should of actually let it go longer.. oh well.
-E |
oh yeah, and it is actually correct, that is what the gauge cluster should have shown.
i haven't played with any of the gauges (rpm/speed) that is what it actually displayed. -E |

in essence i didn't smudge it too much.. the car really did think its going that fast.. just with no traction.. gotta love FWD

When the 168mph run was done I wanna say I heard the RPMs were somewhere around 6800-7200rpms? (been 4 years since I checked into this video, etc) and my memory isn't the best. Also that 160mph was a FWD DSM. I'll see if I can find the information again, as I think I remember seeing the complete run from start (55mph) to finish (160mph). And the RPMS were shown till about 140mph then it focused on only the speedo.
So hopefully that'll give and idea of where the RPMS were exactly. ON a side not the car that did 160mph only had low 300whp at the time of the video. |

You did put on a good show. Congrats. The biggest thing I couldn't get past was how clear and centered the pic was. When you watch auto racing on TV, the in car cameras are always showing the driver bouncing around and fighting with that steering wheel. Thats on a super smooth race track with a car designed for that kind of speed. A DSM on Minnesota roads would be incredible bouncy. Barton's video is what it is really like at that kind of speed. So were you in the garage then, when you took that pic? Looks like a garage pic. Does your boost gauge read boost or is it programmed for something else? I'm just curious if it would read there under full throttle with absolutly no load. later, Curt |
i didn't lie about anything else other than where it hapend.. the gauges are as i said, voltage, oil, gas, temp.
yes it did hapen in the garage.. and i just threw it in 5th gear and steped on it, it went up to that speed in like 2 seconds.. as fast as the rpm's went up the spedo went that high as well. The boost gauge probably only showed like 1 pound of boost if.. |
Cool. Well, you can tell people that you jumped into your car, started it up, and did a 5th gear pull. And the speedometer showed 180+ mph. Next time take some shakey pictures from the passenger seat. Make sure they are a little blurry and off centered. ;)
later, Curt |
ok, i will take your suggestions for the video..
-E |
Your even more crazy doing that on jack stands versus on the highway.
