Re: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI Project
Hey just think, if you figure out how to compound about 4 more of those together you could test the limits of those fancy rods you have!! lol

With smaller turbos, that sinking into the back of the seat doesnt happen very long, and your already at the top of the boost and leveling off. like a quickie. |

Re: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI Project
Hell yeah, powerband beat a lot of numbers on the street and was fun as hell to drive.
But then you won't be cool on the internet or at meets when you have a little turbo :o( |
Re: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI Project

Re: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI Project
Yeah, there has been no progress on the shiney manifold. at this point im not sure if there will be any. Ive gotten bored with it and with what has been happening in my professional life ive had trouble finding time.
But last night i made some good progress... I assembled the rod and piston with the rings and all. Put the new bearings on the rod, lubed them up with lubriplate, and installed it. Then i thought about how easy that was so i decided to pull the rest of the pistons so they were out of the car, cleaned them up, put the new bearings on and installed them as well. Everything is torqued down nicely at 38 ft-lbs (thanks TKR for the quick responce on how much to torque them). When i was loosening the bolts on the rod caps i was shocked. From the feel of it, the bolts had to be under 15 lbs of torque. :O So im glad i caught it in time and didnt half ass it and replace just the piston and let her buck. Tonight i will be cleaning up the intake mani by hand and hopefully will get to put the oil pan on and possibly if there is time get the head installed and torqued down. Question for you 1g guys: When you take off and put on the head do you usually install with the intake manifold attached? On my 2gs i always installed the intake mani after putting the head on. but then again its been a long time since i have had a stock intake manifold. |
Re: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI Project
What did you gap the rings to? Also, do you have a ring filer or just file by hand?
I'd put the manifold on first, then attach the head. Especially if it's a stock manifold. |
Re: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI Project
If the block is still in the car when you're putting the head on, I would put the intake mani on the head before putting the head on the block. The bottom bolts/nuts are almost impossible to get to once it's in the car.

Re: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI Project
OK Since i have been banned for the past like forever. i have made lots of progress on the car. because i havnt been tied up with whoring up the shoutbox and stuff.
Update: Piston showed up last weekend. It was wrong. Way wrong. MAP has been great through this. and ordered the correct one and has been getting dicked around by their distributor and it was supposed to be here last wednesday, then today, and i dunno maybe tomorrow. Their distributor keeps telling them tomorrow. So while i have been bored and waiting for the piston and even more bored because i havent had style. i have done quite a few things. - Cleaned the carpet, While taking out the front seats i found a Stewart Warner Ultra-Shift Light. Which i was excited about. It has a digi readout that tells me my rpm. woot. - Cleaned up the turbo. - Gapped the rest of the rings. most of them were ok except for one was a little tight. now its perfect. - cleaned the piston tops so no carbon and look like new. - Mounted the electronic trigger for the Crane Ignition. - Wired up the Ignition - Wired up the new boost gauges (it does a cool opening ceromony that i found exciting.) - Wired up oil pressure. - Put everthing together and put in the seats. - Polished the water pipe as it was looking rusty. - Cleaned all interior from dust and debris. - Got the rear seat from TKR, thanks mark - Got the rest of the plastics from CarPsycho Thanks Mike. - Installed plastics. and rear seat, looks like a complete dsm from the inside. - Other Misc Stuff. Happy St. Pattys day. ! Tom |
