Re: The Spazmobile
Holy CRAP! That's insane, did your car get parked in a swamp for a few years or what? Now get back to modding and forget this crap about selling it :)

Anyway, yeah, I'm thinking this isn't going to stop me from continuing to mod the car, all I've really got left are easy things... Exhaust, Injectors, ECU, hardly anything that can't be transplanted down the road with little effort. |
Re: The Spazmobile
LOL Duluth actually uses less road salt than the Twin Cities. Since pretty much everything drains directly into Lake Superior they use a lot of biodegradable ice melts.

Re: The Spazmobile
Well, there's no build progress to report, but I've got pics detailing this past week in spending:
Rotors: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2719/...586d389a_b.jpg Pads: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4056/...e1778c1c_b.jpg MAF-T and GM MAF http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2739/...92be87c3_b.jpg I don't know when it's all getting installed, but the plan is sooner rather than later. |
Re: The Spazmobile
Story time.
Last night I was driving home from a buddy's and the car felt a little down on power. I figured it was being dumb and pulling timing, since it didn't feel jerky or anything at the time, I was tired, and I had to be up early. This morning on the way to class, it was alright for a bit, then it started missing on a single cylinder, first under boost, now it does it a bit into vacuum. So I pulled off and checked things out, all pipes are tight, plug wires are solid at both ends, idled fine, but the distributor was clicking pretty hardcore to the point of sounding like a decent exhaust leak (but we know those don't come from the intake mani). So would I be right to start there? AKA Do the symptoms fit the diagnosis? Never had one of those things fail on me and I don't know how quickly they can go. |
Re: The Spazmobile
Your EGR could cause an exhaust leak at the intake manifold and will make your car run funny under boost if not functioning properly.

Re: The Spazmobile
Nice looking brake setup though! I assume those are the newly revised Reds? Should be a great street/autox pad.
|
Re: The Spazmobile
Looks good! I had the old-style EBC reds on my 2G and was less than impressed, hopefully this new compound they've developed actually make the car stop :)
I *may* have a spare set of 2G coils laying around at my house if you wanna try them. |

Regardless, I'm pretty sure the coil pack shouldn't be loud enough that I think I have an exhaust leak, and I know that's where the noise is coming from. Scheides, you gonna be at OC tonight? If not, I'll probably just pick one up at O'Reilly after class. |

Re: The Spazmobile
And they probably still eat rotors. Oh well.

Re: The Spazmobile
Brakes look good spaz!
|
Re: The Spazmobile
Well first off, your car doesn't have a distributor ;) haha But yeah, I would say that the coils are a good place to start. If that doesn't cure the problem pull the valve cover and make sure you don't have a collapsed lifter.

Re: The Spazmobile
Go to napa or another parts store and ask for a Distributor for your car. See what they say. LOL
|
Re: The Spazmobile
^lol, awesome.
I was gonna say, I thought we found the problem with my car as well because I can't find my distributor anywhere!!! |
Re: The Spazmobile
Yeah, I know, I was on 4 hours of sleep. Normally I could tell you there's not one, but that post was made before the morning caffeine.
Plug on #4 fouled. Pulled it out and there was moisture on the threads and in between the terminals. Looked down the well, there was a drop or two of water sitting on the piston, but just looked like it had dripped off the plug. It smelled very slightly of coolant, but I'm sure the HG's fine, compression's still factory, I'm not mixing, and I'm not losing coolant. Threw it back in to go picked up new plugs, it missed initially but then stopped doing so below 10psi. Got the new plugs in, problem solved. Cylinder moisture was gone when I put the new plug in. So it looks like I probably got some water down the plug well. I was initially thinking I sucked it up, but after looking at the plug there's a decent amount of water deposits above the threads as if there was water sitting there and evaporating. The only thing I can think of is if I hit a puddle and splashed water up there, but there wasn't any water on the valve cover so... I dunno. I also found an exhaust leak in the flex section on the downpipe, but that's a different story. |
