Re: Project Winter Beater
Engine bay is all prepped and ready for the motor:
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC11222.JPG Here are those stupid brake rotors. I had to cut into them and then take a hammer and chisel and got them to crack: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC11223.JPG However, with progress there's also a few steps back. Popped off the clutch and flywheel from the 91 and the awd flywheel I was going to use has too many deep cracks in it so I need to buy one of those. Then I took off the clutch I put in last year and heres the disk: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC11224.JPG The springs in the sprung center are once again working themselves out. This would be the 3rd clutch this has happened to me. Not to mention it looks like the flywheel wasn't stepped right as you can see theres a lot of material on the disk not even touching. The other side looks great on the pressure plate side. I'm going to get an unsprung 6 puck disk and a chromoly 11lbs flywheel so I'm not breaking these ever again. |
Re: Project Winter Beater
What kind of disc is that?

Re: Project Winter Beater
Lay a straight edge across your pressure plate. There is a very good chance that it is warped and causing your uneven wear.

I thought that too but when I look at the side the pressure plate was on, all the pucks were wore evenly. It was only on the flywheel side. I will no doubt check the pressure plate though. Got a few parts today: Ebay 1g awd dp: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC11226.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC11228.JPG Only thing that disapoints me is these welds: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC11227.JPG If it seals, I'll be happy. I also picked up an ebay radiator: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC11229.JPG We'll see how this goes.... |
Re: Project Winter Beater
DP looks nice, what did it cost? Just see how it holds up, pretty welds don't mean crap, they are usually the ones that crack.

Took a few more pics of where the car stands after Twack came down again to wrench:

Re: Project Winter Beater
I think I might be a pic whore. Installed my fmic kit and my oil cooler from off the Laser:
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC11245.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC11243.JPG Also got the passenger front brake lines on. The driver's side is giving me a hard time so I'm going to replace some of the hard line. http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC11242.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC11241.JPG Started plugging in my wiring harness too: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC11246.JPG |
Re: Project Winter Beater
Looking good! You gonna swap valve covers?

I'm going to paint this one. When I got a new vc gasket I'll do it up. |
Re: Project Winter Beater
The rear ss lines are on:
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC11258.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC11257.JPG The car is mostly waiting on me to sell the old motor so I can pick up a clutch disk and flywheel. |
Re: Project Winter Beater
SS lines are awesome. I had them all the way around on my DSM, and soon I'll have them all the way around on the 240.

Brake upgrades is always money well spent. Haha your car can never stop too well.

Re: Project Winter Beater
So I was bored tonight after work so I went out to the garage and started getting into it again.....
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC11259.JPG Here's just the engine harness: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC11260.JPG I'm putting the fender fuse box in the back next to the battery, running the engine harness through a new hole on the driver's side of the shifter cables, basically learning from everything I did on the Laser and doing it better. It should be hella-clean though. :D |
Re: Project Winter Beater
Should look sick! I might have missed it, but what are you doing with the laser shell?

Wow! Soon there won't be anything left under the hood of that thing!

Re: Project Winter Beater
So here's what a stock wiring harness looks like strung out:
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC11261.JPG Here's what it looks like all un-wrapped and layed out the way I plan to route it: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/SDC11262.JPG Going to re-do the wires going to the t-stat housing and o2 sensor. Then I just have to wrap it all back up and put it back in the car. :sport017: |
