Re: Toms Project...
Ok, so i managed to sum up the whole cars life within the first 24 hours of it driving.
First was being pulled over within the first 2 hours of it driving. Then i took it to work and went on lunch, came back and it was running fine. Got off of work and the fucker wouldnt start. I checked everything. Was getting spark, had gas, fuel pressure, and the pistons were wet. Then i looked at the timing, WAY THE FUCK OFF. I dont know how this could have happened but it was running fine when i shut it off. But anyways, it was towed home. So today i have to get a timing belt and tensioner. Fucking dsms. |
Re: Toms Project...
How did you go about setting the TB? Did you use the drill bit method? That works the best for me.
Sorry man, that really sucks. |
Re: Toms Project...
I did it when i had the motor out.
I lined up the crank at 10 BTDC, lined up the cam gears and oil pump gear. I pushed the tensioner in with a vise and dropped an allen wrench in the hole. Then installed that and pulled the pin after i had the belt on. it was dead on 10 btdc when i installed the motor and made sure it was. Im thinking it was either a faulty tensioner that just gave out or it was a bad belt. I am just hoping i didnt bend any valves. What is the easiest way of checking the valves without pulling off the head? |
Re: Toms Project...
Compression check is a easy way. Or the only way I can think of. Good luck man I hope you did not bend any valves.

Re: Toms Project...
How did you adjust the tensioner pulley? Did you adjust the tensioner pulley?
|
Re: Toms Project...
Its an auto tensioner, isnt it?

Re: Toms Project...
You need to torque the tensioner pulley to so many inch lbs also. Good thing you motor isnt toast!

Re: Toms Project...
Maybe 30 degrees or so.
I basically made sure the belt was tight but not too tight. When i was trying to start the car it was not backfireing like it usually does when the timing is off. |
Re: Toms Project...
Rut-roh... That sounds like at least 2 teeth and at 2 teeth the valves are usually goners.
|
Re: Toms Project...
well im crossing my fingers on this one. i remember when looking down the spark plug holes i didnt see any damage to the pistons.
In looking at the vfaq i did not use the torque tool, on the tensioner pully. i just figured that there was a auto tensioner for a reason, to AUTO tension the belt. |
Re: Toms Project...
It is a hydraulic tensioner, not an auto tensioner. It will take up slack as the belt wears, but it needs to start in the correct position.
