Re: beaterX project thread
Actually, I just got approval from the boss (gf) to put mine back together on the cheap. No sweet t4 kit this year but I am going STS now :) I think 420whp on a stock turbo is in my future with e85, boost and high compression :)
So I will get to drive it this year! Ordering parts Tuesday. |
Re: beaterX project thread
Havent put a ring on it and already your boss? Yikes.

Nice scheides! |
Re: beaterX project thread
Very nice Chris.
In 12 years I have not had to ask Aly to work on or buy stuff for the cars. |
Re: beaterX project thread
Geez tough crowd here. I will just keep mouth shut from now on lol.
When you spend thousands upon thousands on a car that sits non active year after year I guess I thought it was smart to get someone financially smarter than I's opinion. Maybe I should stick to my old ways, disregard females acquire car part. |

Disregard bitchy/unsupportive females and do what makes you happy. I think its pretty awesome that Chris has such a reliable/fun car that his mods are oil changes, summer tires and new plugs! Keep up the good work |

Re: beaterX project thread
I love this car. I don't drive it enough...it makes me feel like a million bucks!
Took it on our nice 700-ish mile spring cruise through dust, bumpy/sandy roads, rain, etc and absolutely had a blast! Hung with Kevin's SV1000 pretty damn well (though he kept going another gear more than me before looking back so he claims bus-lengths lol!), did a little walkin away from Brandon's Evo9 race car, and drove prego Aly allll the way home no problem. http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/IMG_0461.sized.jpg http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/IMG_0462.sized.jpg http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/IMG_0463.sized.jpg Well, allllllmost pretty well :D Popped off the UICP at one point...reattached it and before long I checked again and this: http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/14_31.sized.jpg Fek. My front motor mount must be giving a little or something idk. Decided to try a KISS fix: http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/IMG_7202.sized.jpg Nice and easy except the new 4-ply coupler was soooo thick it was tough to get the original t-bolt clamps back on! No major issues yet but will watch it as the summer goes on. http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/IMG_7214.sized.jpg Also, idk if its just the fact that I have a STS evo9 in the garage now too but this thing is doggy again. I think something is up with the wastegate or flapper...something doesn't seem quite right. I checked the WGA and there's still plenty of pre-load on it. It still rips at 32psi up top but something just isn't perfect about it. And right on time for proving grounds too! So, I'll bring the IX up there and this thing will be my fun street car for now...I'll mess with the turbo setup whenever I get around to it, the car is still so so fun. |
Re: beaterX project thread
Makes me want an evo
|
Re: beaterX project thread
I always thought my ef4 was "doggy", not awful but it lacked pep down low. But it ripped up top which is why I liked it. And for some reason, I thought it smart to go t4 after that lol. It could be a turbo issue but I think its just the wheel sizes in the stock frame honestly, but worth monitoring. Even my 2.2L didn't help to make it kick down low.
I'll let you try my new/improved STS X when I get it running to compare :) |
Re: beaterX project thread
Hah I had a stock turbo on this thing when I got it, it was very fun! Honestly I'll probably just leave it unless it is actually an issue. I have thought about swapping in a stock turbo but really an ef3 is what this car needs longterm. EF4 is not bad though, it rips! Just different from my IX, that's all :)

Re: beaterX project thread
I always try to use hump hoses at the end terminations (turbo and tb) just because of motor flex. Sure maybe it adds a twat's hair of turbulence into the mix, but whatever to me that's OK if there's a purpose behind it.
Keep up the good work man. |
Re: beaterX project thread
Haha I don't claim bus lengths. Just that from the time we would go I had no idea where you were so I didn't want to let off. I have since changed my sprockets (both lighter and +2 teeth on the rear) so I'm sure now I would pull quite a bit more.

Re: beaterX project thread
I love this car more than ever! To be blunt and to the point I *should* sell it but I just can't bring myself to. It is so damn fun on the street and after detailing it for the cookout it looks better than it ever has.
I got some VIP parking (on accident) at the annual All Mitsubishi Cookout organized by the MN3S club and hosted at White Bear Lake Mitsubishi. Awesome day, hot hot hot and then it rained, but got to catch up with a lot of old friends and got some cool pics of the car after some heavy rain. http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/...e8_o.sized.jpg Pics courtesy Charles Miller aka spaz! http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/...06_o.sized.jpg Pics courtesy Charles Miller aka spaz! http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/...a7_o.sized.jpg Pics courtesy Charles Miller aka spaz! http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/...91_o.sized.jpg Pics courtesy Charles Miller aka spaz! http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/...5d_o.sized.jpg Pics courtesy Charles Miller aka spaz! http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/...71_o.sized.jpg Pics courtesy Charles Miller aka spaz! Originals here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/298435...th/14403924790 Snapped a few pics with my iphone too, they turned out ok: http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/14_5_001.jpg http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/14_6.jpg http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/14_7_1.jpg http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/14_9_001.jpg http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/14_10.jpg Oh, and the accessory belt is squeeking a little bit when the car is cold. Will have to address that soon. :P |
Re: beaterX project thread
Looks awfully nice for a beater! lol
Why would you sell it? |
Re: beaterX project thread
So fresh and so clean!
|
Re: beaterX project thread
Silly to own two Evos...but selling this one would be stupid IMO.

Re: beaterX project thread
maybe i misinterpreted, but I think hughes meant, if you were going to sell one the beater x is the lesser of choices? Dunno, could be wrong.
I vote keep both. I want two evos one day, one 9 and one X, but might not be for a while. Regardless, looking good sir! |
Re: beaterX project thread
I want a 9.

Re: beaterX project thread
The accessory belt on this thing has been a little squeeky on cold startup the last month or so. Finally got it up in the air and took a look, I knew I had a small oil leak back here (likely from the turbo feed but I'm not sure) but it appears as though I let it go a little too long, oil spray everywhere back here and all over the side of the motor, the pullies, belt, etc. Boo.
http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/14_6_001.sized.jpg http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/14_3_001.sized.jpg http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/14_1_002.sized.jpg I sprayed the entire side of the motor down with brake cleaner and scrubbed everything I could and then swapped on a new belt. Squeek gone! I put some miles on it and re-checked it but I can't see the leak anywhere now, motor is bone dry all over. I'll put some more miles on it this weekend for the MitsuStyle fall cruise and check it again when I get back. http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/...49_1.sized.jpg (full size) http://www.scheides.com/albums/evoX/IMG_8673.sized.jpg (full size) Still love this car! Had a serious offer on it and end of the day it made me just want to keep it even more. Blah! |
Re: beaterX project thread
Any chance its CV boot grease slinging around? Mine did that and made a mess.
|
Re: beaterX project thread
The CV clamps were done on this a couple years back, I remember because I sold him the parts. :D
I'd be surprised if they were leaking again but might be worth a look. |
Re: beaterX project thread
Sell it and the 9 and get a 911
|
Re: beaterX project thread
If you get an offer on that bish, sell that nao!
