Yea, pretty sure it was brownman that turned me onto it a few years back. I said 'meh' for a while and then when it came time to do fluid changes on my car & a few others at the same time I sprung for it.

Yes sir, a few years ago when I used to make it out. I came to help you and a couple others do random stuff and there were a lot of diff. fluid changes and everyone fell in love with it like I did.

I highly recommend it.

Hah even I don't know unfortunately. I always appreciate the help but tonight is a classic example...car runs fine so all I gotta do is finish brakes and bleed ACD then go drive it right? I got two pads and a rotor installed and phone rang for work...ran to edina, just got back in time for bed. I'm trying *really* hard not to stress out about getting this thing done for proving grounds but this pace is fucking killing me right now.

Good luck, my schedule appears to be freeing up more lately too.
So if you or anyone wants a hand let me know.
More mitsu's at PG the better.

Well at long last the car is officially back on the road!! Work owned me all week but today I bled the acd (thanks tephra!), finished the brakes, aligned the steering wheel, reassembled the bov, and buttoned up the bumper cover.

35 miles on the clock and no apparent leaks, oil looks good...fingers crossed!

Oh! And look what showed up today :)

Here's the Girodisc S/S pads:
http://www.scheides.com/albums/evox-..._006.sized.jpg

Catch can installed:
http://www.scheides.com/albums/evox-..._001.sized.jpg

Generic mounting bracket that came with it had to make do for now....it ain't too purdy up close:
http://www.scheides.com/albums/evox-..._002.sized.jpg

But like the rest of the car, from a few feet away it ain't bad (also, here's a shot of the engine bay all buttoned up):
http://www.scheides.com/albums/evox-..._001.sized.jpg

Car is back on the road! 150 miles on the clock so far...no major leaks. I'm still undecided on break-in procedure....Proving Grounds is 2 weeks away and I want to try and do some WOT tuning before I hit the road up there.

Started car, full warm-up.
Changed oil. 10w30 Fleet Farm oil.
Drove 41 miles, vacuum pulls, vacuum pulls, vacuum pulls.
Changed oil. 2.5x 10w30 Fleet Farm oil, 2x O'Reily 10w40.
150 miles now, do I change to synthetic at 500 miles or...
change oil at 500 miles with some 10w40 dino oil and then go for 1000 before going synthetic....I don't know if I have time.

http://www.scheides.com/albums/evox-..._004.sized.jpg

Also need to fix the BCS lead I broke during disassembly, do the rear brakes, bleed them all around, and change the rear diff fluid. So far so good....

Nice! 500 miles should be fine to go to synthetic. Ring seating should be all done by then.

Thanks guys! Yea, make no mistake this endeavor was completed in 20 to 60 minute increments. Sometimes I'd get lucky and get a few hours in a row but not often. Even yesterday I put the engine cover, manifold heat shield, and strut tower on in my work clothes on my way to work :)

Next weekend I'll change over to synthetic and hopefully have some virtual dyno plots (maybe some real ones?) to post :)

only 250 miles on this thing, I was hoping to be to 450 by now....too much work and too close to the office, I'm moving at a snail's pace! Going to have to plan a few shopping trips this weekend or something to try and attempt to get close to 500 before leaving for PG....otherwise I'm going to have to change my dino oil at the track and tune on the drag strip...

I know a guy in Hastings that could use some help replacing a timing chain.

Problem is it's my DD, so I need it all day every day :) I drive it to work, then to datacenter, then customer site, then back to office, then customer site, then home...trouble is these have all been like 2 mile drives lately...silly inner-city businesses :P

Working with a customer down in edina today/tomorrow/next week so I think with a few social outings and maybe a dedicated drive or two I may be able to get'r'done.

Game on :) I am still hoping to do my rear diff fluid and rear brakes this weekend too but I could let those slide until after PG.

Haha you got more miles on it then I do. Mines still sitting on jack stands in the drive way. I'm driving the 100 miles tomorrow though then dropping the oil and heading up to park rapids for part of my 1k break in.

Hope you have it done for pg.

Re: beaterX project thread

Bombed around the city thursday/friday/saturday running errands, taking the wife out for fun, and visiting Shawn C in Hastings (helped him swap on a new non-stretch timing chain on his X) to click the new motor's odometer over 500 miles. Went to about 550 miles actually, vacuum pulls and such as much as I could.

Car drives really really nice and today I gave it some final love before next weekend:
-fresh rear diff fluid
-girodisc rear s/s brake pads
-ATE Super Blue brake fluid, fully bled system (thanks for pumping that brake pedal spazzy!)
-AMSoil 10w40
-yanked valve cover, everything looks peachy! Bolts are tight and clearances are in spec :)
-fixed ripped-out 3-port BCS harness (oops my bad--during disassembly :( )
-fresh OEM spark plugs gapped to .018"
-full tank of E85
-boost!

Started her off easy ~25psi and the car feels great. More boost this week, keep watching for leaks, and few more little things before heading to BIR!

http://scheides.com/misc/pics/evox/evox-motor2-01.jpg

Lots of clunking coming from the front, I'm going to order new strut mounts/hats as it is getting really annoying.
Also I have a loose endlink on the rear sway bar. It's not terrible, but might be causing a clunk here or there. Just annoying because I the bolt is basically frozen on the endlink and doesn't want to budge...might be sawzall time ;)

scheides 06-16-2013 10:01 PM

Re: beaterX project thread

After looking at logs, realized BCS was plugged into the wrong plug--oops! Corrected it for a flatter boost curve going forward :)

Thamks Scheides for your help on Saturday. The car is mostly back together finishing up assembly tonight. You car sounded so good when you pulled up, gotta love a fresh rebuild!

Re: beaterX project thread

Any updated charts for viewing pleasure? It looked like you are ripping at 32psi now?

scheides 06-19-2013 11:37 PM

Re: beaterX project thread

No real charts, decided to save it for this weekend. Car is making about 550 whp @32-tapering to 30 according to Virtual dyno which is identical to what it was making last fall before making 599@MAP. So, numbers are with a grain of salt, if I can just have fun with it this weekend ill be happy! Car just revs and revs, power is fantastic above 7500rpm.
