Well first step is after its cleared going to let it idle for at least 30 mins and let the ECU relearn everything.

Then make sure the code doesn't come back. If it doesn't come back then Hooray, otherwise I have other things I can check I guess...hopefully it was just some of the bad e85 left over.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Given the recent events, it is high time I bought one...

Just ordered a tactrix 2.0 Cable...time to be able to log...when it gets here I will get a copy of evoscan too.

I hate not being able to read codes, this is needed. Next up I am going to get a wideband and wire that in for on board wideband readings.

This stuff is all overdue. I was really really wanting to get a milspec TB and maybe some porting for the intake mani but I am already going to be adding some great power with the tubular manifold, so I'd rather invest in some much needed logging stuff. I will probably start to look into tinkering with tuning stuff too.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Logging stuff is priceless.
I don't think u need to worry about power, remember there will always be someone faster than you.

And even if you want to be king of the mitsu boards, we have too many shops around.

When you get a wideband make sure u get something that works well with your software, I know with link some of the wideband will be off a few points when logging thru link when compared to the gauge.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Can't you just disable the P0300? Lots of 8/9 guys do, its just annoying and nothing to worry about really. If the car is misfiring real bad it's not like you won't be able to tell anyways, ya know?

Murlo26 02-23-2011 11:23 AM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I don't think they have that disable for the X yet, but they might.

Shane did tell me thats what they do on the 8/9's but it sounds like he said he doesn't see it on the X's at all. So unless it keeps popping up (and there is no reason for it) I'll just leave it be for now.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Well the FID manifold should be at MAP Friday, finally haha.

It is getting nice out slowly but surely and I am getting ancy so I keep bugging Chris...can't help it still haven't drove the evo much at all in the past year.

The plan is an all day extravaganza on Monday with at least 4 manifolds being tested...possibly 5. we expect the testing to run into Tuesday so I will be missing some work...dang ;)

I just dropped off some new oil (high zinc yumminess) and filter, oh and Scheides' old mani.

Last night I swung by Scheides house to grab the mani and setup Evoscan and stand alone data logging on my Tactrix cable. BIG THANKS TO SCHEIDES !! (I owe you yet again) It would've taken a lot of reading to figure out most that stuff, much easier to learn hands on. So now I am set to log and someday make minor minor changes...probably mainly fuel stuff at first..I'll leave timing and mivec etc to Shane.

MAP is gonna swap out the oil quick this week and recoat Scheides mani too as it had a few scratches in it...wouldn't hurt right :)

So it looks like the plan is Monday strap the car down right away at 9ish and do baselines on the DD tune which is around 30-32psi..so should easily shows gains from parts swapping at those levels.

Order:

1)ported stocker from MAP that is coated.
2) MAP's short runner
3) FID Mani
4) Map long runner (scheides)
5) Possible revised MAP mani if necessary.

It sounds like MAP might try to make another mani this week that we may test. There is no reason to redo their design though as the current one works great but if they need to they will attempt to improve upon it.

So let the fun begin...stop by Monday if you wanna check it out.

No crying here...unless my car has mechanical problems, lol...

I don't foresee any drama this time as SLS/FID isn't on this website haha.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Baselines are done for manifold testing. Still running good...car is very consistent, basicallly spot on for the numbers it put down in October, that's a good sign.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/33fc7777.jpg

They are going to try and swap mani's on the dyno, but I doubt that will work and they doubt it will too...but they are going to try damn it.

Sidenote: Also picked up an AEM wideband, going to install that this weekend so I can get it working with evoscan/logging. Should be a fun little project.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Car is running 13.5 AFR's on boost and 12.5 up top according to MAP's tailpipe Wideband.

My car has always seem to run a full point leaner on the dyno from DB to MAP. I think Jim said his always does this as well, anyone else see this?

It's lean but not stupid lean. On DB's dyno it was 11.5 up top and here its 12.5. We are going to shoot for keeping it consistent obviously...I will check it against my wideband after I install it next weekend. I saw 1 2 count of knock and that's it...that was in spool up as well which is something else I need to get sorted, but otherwise up top it was a clean pull. I am not too worried as long as knock isn't there.

Kracka 03-21-2011 12:55 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

My IX was always a full point higher @ MAP vs. DB too, I think Scheides also saw the same on his VIII.

Matt D. 03-21-2011 12:56 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Could this be why numerous people have reported their cars leaving MAP's dyno with less power than when they arrived?

Ok, so it is consistent then.

It's just a reference anyway...they are just going to aim to keep AFR's consistent through the testing. So works for me.

That makes way too much sense, now whose device is faulty?

Murlo26 03-21-2011 01:05 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

well I'd rather have it reading too high so you get a lower power/safer tune then reading low.

I will confirm with my wideband on the street which will be a better judge.

Well, my AFRs were not a point off at RS. Shane has told me that he uses one of the most expensive widebands and I doubt he'd do so if he didn't think it mattered.

Murlo26 03-21-2011 01:52 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

AFR's on the short runner didn't change at all really. We are swapping that out for the next manifold now.

Looks like average gains of 25ish whp 13 wtq.

Graphs and stuff will be done later tonight or tomorrow night. I guess it will depend on when I get all those graphs.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I've never been on Map's dyno but my wideband showed exactly what it did when Shane tuned all of my cars. I'd go with Shane's dyno being a bit more accurate.

Do you have any examples of this? We obviously start with a baseline and I can't recall a car leaving with less power than when it came in...

Murlo26 03-21-2011 02:36 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I guess I haven't heard that either Chris.

I didn't want to start a debate about how the widebands read, was just curious if others see the same thing. It sounds like they do.

I will confirm with the wideband I just bought from MAP this weekend or next week sometime and report back.

The tail sniffers are never perfect and everything is prone to error to some degree.

v8klla 03-21-2011 02:41 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Yep I agree the absolute best option is a permanent install further up stream, next time we get a car with one on the dyno I'll be sure to compare both readings.

Of course not, no one would ever post this online. It's all been word of mouth.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Well we broke the stock ECU Evo 8/9 record twice using this wideband and I trust it with my personal car. Cars don't come in here for tuning and leave with less power unless they are knocking and on the ragged edge, in which case we did the customer a favor. /rant

Murlo26 03-21-2011 04:21 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Well...very very interesting results so far. I honestly am a little dumbfounded that we got what we did with the FID.

The FID still picked up power over the stock ported mani...but was basically put to shame by the short runner from MAP. We are starting to wonder if the short runner is the BALLS of all the manifolds, lol. Still have the MAP long runner to test.

Now timing seems to be very consistent on all of these runs we are doing. I think the AFR's are all pretty close as well.

I am going to put graphs up later of the logs for timing/boost etc but wow is all i can say...the short runner had 20whp over the FID for their best runs. Average was closer to 10-12ishwhp over. Keep in mind we didn't do any tuning at all...just been watching AFR's and knock so far.

And I'll add my car to the list as another that's reported a full point leaner on MAP's dyno.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

We didn't get to the long runner we called it around 6:15 or so last night. I am heading back there around 3:00ish today and we are going to finish up. We actually got a lot done yesterday, more than Chris expected. They were almost done installing yet another manifold when I left so they were going to save some of that for today.

I should have the rest of the results later today hopefully.

By the time I got home and made dinner I was wiped...didn't get any sleep sunday night as I knew I had monday off :) So I went home and basically fell asleep.
