No, it looks like Vimeo is worth a try. I'll upload it there tonight.

Months and months of issues and this whole build for an uber-track setup, and all you can say is you lost a muffler bolt? C'mon man, did you have a blast tearing it up on the track or what? Or did you just do a few laps and call it quits after the CEL?

I'm a noob, what can I say. I spent most of the day frustrated with my lack of ability. I never quite had a 'good' lap on the long course. My last session on the short course was good by my measure--I hit the line very well for a couple laps. I'm slow because I don't know what the limits of the car are and I'm afraid to find them.

My instructor was one of the instructors with the BMW club. He took me for a ride in his M3 and DAMN. I think I still have imprints from the harnesses on my chest.

I'm definitely going to do one of their 'car control' days when I get a chance.

It threw two P0137's (rear o2) but that could be from losing the bolt on one of the two mufflers. It had previous recorded three P0136's (front o2) in the last few weeks.

I ordered a new o2 today just to have it on hand. If I could just convince this exhaust to stay on the car...

You don't have the magnaflow catback by chance do you? I know I watched scheides' old one just pop right off the hanger before. The rod part of the hanger didn't have the little edge on it to keep it inside the rubber.

That wasn't my magnaflow, that was the ghetto catback that came on the car when I got it, made by a shop in SD. The magnaflow has given me zero issues.

Long in the morning and short in the afternoon.

This is actually the nuts working off the bolts. This is the third bolt/nut that I've lost. I picked up some lock washers for the replacement hardware. We'll see if that does it.

Oh, gotcha. Thought it was a magnaflow ;(

The Magnaflow hangars are very well designed, no way they'll ever pop off. My guess is they actually be harder to get out of the rubber hangars than stock.

That looks like a winner. Not a terribly good video, anyway, but my sister-in-law shot about 20 and it was the best that she managed.

Fueling seems to be solid. I saw KnockCEL once when I was entering the main straight but I'm not sure what that was about. It was the only time that I saw knock indicated. AFRs were running mid-12's most of the day...at least on my gauge.

Re: Evo X upgrades

The good news is that it looks unlikely that the muffler is going to fall off. The bad news is that the one bolt holding it on is now stripped. hmpf. I guess I'll be swinging by an exhaust place tomorrow.

Did you get your wideband wired into the rear o2 input yet? Stand-alone logging would be super nice to see through a track session, all the important stuff.

Nice video, I'm going to up the size of the embedded vimeo format, the videos on that site are always such great quality.

I wasn't planning to do that since my PLX OBD gauge was already plugged into the port. I fried the control box the other day experimenting with the wiring (it was frequently freezing and now it won't boot). The interesting thing is that with that thing broken, now the NAV works. It appears that gauge isn't 100% compatible with Mitsu can-bus.

Not sure what I'm going to do now. I'm too annoyed to deal with it at the moment.

scheides 07-27-2010 10:37 PM

Re: Evo X upgrades

Alrighty, you can still log air/coolant temps, timing, boost, knock, etc. Wideband is just icing on the cake. All you need is an analog out though, 0-5v, the PLX has to have that, even the cheapest AEM & innovate models have that.

It does. The quandry is that I can't have both the Tactrix and the PLX OBDII gauge plugged into the OBD port at the same time. PLX has their own logging software if I want to use a laptop, it just doesn't work with Evoscan.

I have one of those GoPro HD cameras but I haven't tried it out yet (some people say that the video sucks). I've always had an instructor with me so far (why not, paying for it) and I didn't need the additional distraction. Maybe next month.

Re: Evo X upgrades

Worry more about your driving than the logging, sounds like the car is running pretty damn good :) Sucks your PLX gauges are giving you a hassle though. Do you plan to keep them or go another route?

You can get new hardware for your exhaust from any hardware store; ACE sells automotive grade bolts/nuts.

QFT. All the damn gadgets in the world won't make you a better driver. After all, that is why you built the car, right? To drive?

I have a big investment so I'd certainly like to see them work. The question is if that's possible. They are one of those companies that doesn't have a tech support phone number...you email and they don't reply. If I don't get an RMA for the OBD gauge then that one will probably just remain dark. I have AFR & Boost on the other gauge and those are the important ones, anyway.

I picked some up at O'Reillys yesterday but got M8 and I need M10 by the looks of it. I'm going to swing by scheides tonight in case I have to cut the existing bolt off (no power in the ramp at home).

One day at BIR per month and the rest of the month to fiddle with stuff. I'll let my 'pit crew' (brother & his wife) play with the cameras.

I was concerned about checking the AFR a few times just because the setup hasn't been beat on like that before. It held up quite well. The car is incredibly smooth out there. I just need practice with choosing the best gear and some auto-x/car control courses to get a feel for where the limits are.

Autocross is awesome for finding the limit of a car, then bushing beyond it. I spun my IX a few times just finding the edge and pushing past it to see how the car reacted. Well, that and running too much rear tire pressure :)

Perrin shipped a new fmic. I found out that both of their fmic offerings for the X are powder coated, so I went with Silver this time. It should be less noticeable if it peels.

I picked up some larger exhaust bolts and an angle grinder. Super-sized Dremel ftw. :D

Got the exhaust leak fixed last night. Drove the Evo to work to wash it over lunch and I have no boost. I'll be poking around to figure that out today.

I'm not going to panic until I check all the little lines (like the one to my boost gauge).

The silicone coupler that comes off the bottom of the fmic and to the lower IC pipe rubs against the bracket that was for the stock lower IC pipe. UR's lower pipe didn't allow enough clearance and I didn't have anything to cut it off with last Sept when I installed that stuff.

Perrin has already shipped my new FMIC so I was planning to put my new angle grinder to good use. It may have beat me to the punch, though.

Murlo26 07-29-2010 09:39 AM

Re: Evo X upgrades

I know that is where my coupler popped off more than once...

I would just try and check it sooner rather than later with the BBX failures that have gone on. Maybe pull the intake and check the wheels if you can. You don't want to end up like rogue with a toast motor :)

What happened to the motor? I know that the turbo failed.

I was definitely planning to pull the intake tonight and give the wheels a wiggle.
