Valve cover off to Primo for a bit of bling, well kinda, wrinkle black, lol

And dropped these off at DB:

They are technically 1300's, but DW found me a set that flows 1400cc at base pressure:) So I call them DW1400's!

I thought about asking in Scheides thread, but I didn't want to cloud up his when I have my own.

Motor mount, so you guys think just the front should be enough? Is it a power level thing at all? I plan to hit 500 on DB's dyno at one point or another.

Any durometer recommendations? Or can I do like what Scheides did and drill some of it out if needed.

I think you'll be fine with just the front. If you do want to do the rear mount then now is the time while the motor is out.

Stiffness is something you'll have to ask yourself, how much engine vibration do you want transmitted to the rest of the car?

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I would get just the front and go with AMS' 70A durometer to start with and drill holes in it if you find it too stiff. With how stiff the X chassis is a 90A would transmit a lot of vibrations to the cabin and become very irritating on a street car. Now on the VIII/IX's a 90A front mount is about right for a street car.

2nd question then:

i can just get the insert right? or is it really hard to press it in?

Kracka 07-02-2010 01:05 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Most shops or TKR Mark can can press it in for you. With a press it only takes a few seconds and probably would cost you a 6-pack of beer at most.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

K, i'll probably order up the front mount to start with.

I plan to 1/4 mile the car though, so i am guessing the front mount will help the most, are the others really that much more helpful?

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

The front alone is just enough to really firm up the shifts. Worry about the other three when you're trying to find that last thousandth of a second ;)

Cool, thanks Kracka. I'll just go with the front for now then :)

Those pistons will look great in an end-table. :)

You know it :)

they would probably make good ash trays, but I don't smoke and don't want people smoking at my house, lol.

I want to make them like a coaster or something, but we will see. Once they get the new shortblock assembled, i will probably pick up the old one and bring it home to degrease it and clean it and play with it.

+1 on just the front motor mount. I just got the AMS insert, we didn't even need a press to get the old one out or put the new one in at mark's, just a sawzall. If you wanna order one up and bring it over, I have my stock motor mount still (officially it is lomker's, since he lent me his to do my car), we can get it in in about 15 mins pretty easily.

I'll try and get some pics, maybe Thursday or Friday this week if I have another excuse to go up there.

I'll let you know on the motor mount, maybe I can drop that bracket off that you said you needed (not sure if you still do) and we can do it quick then.

Sounds like a plan!

Just got this from Brian at Forced Performance, not the greatest of news :(

The two crucial pieces (covers and compressor wheels) I am waiting for are not here and I don't have a firm ETA. Robert was hoping for the end of this month, I think we are just hoping that happens.

So, July tuning is probably a no go...now I am starting to get scared for the Cookout...I wanted a month of driving at least but who knows if that will happen now.

Is the Red already sold and gone?

Murlo26 07-08-2010 12:46 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Yep, big time. I was scared when I saw a post about a person who said the FP comp covers were on backorder for the X...so i asked FP and got this, doh!

So now I am guessing the car will be all back together just waiting the turbo hopefully in the next two weeks or so.

Maybe I will get lucky and FP will get the parts sooner, who knows.

Yep, I was just thinking that like 10 minutes ago...maybe I should've just kept the red and maxed the shit out of it, lol.

I was just worried it was already maxed at 420whp on Shanes and I want more.
Edit:

Ps. I ordered the front AMS mount earlier this week, or maybe it was last friday. So I will probably run that up to DB when I get it and take some pics of the new shortblock minus a giant gaping hole. Thanks for the info on the motor mount too.

Good news is, another month to make money and pay off part of the build, so I won't have to borrow as much at the end. I already paid off part of the build and my new beater car and a lot of the extra parts I have been buying on the side. So its all gravy.
