Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Awesome! Bean field lol, glad no damage or walls to hit. Ill leave the racing to you! haha
|
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Very nice! Glad to hear your temps were rock-steady!
|
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Very nice and glad to hear wasn't a wall you hit too.
|
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
LOL @ bean field. Glad it wasn't anything harder that you ran into.
Why do you think the spoiler being higher would help? To get more air to it? I would think if you increased the angle to get more airflow across it, it would help keep the rear end down at higher speeds. |
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
It's below the roof line, in this slow/turbulent air going across the flat rear deck. Raising it up 2" into clean airflow will really add some downforce. Several wind tunnel tests done to show how poor the low stock height is for functionality.
OR, I could do a fastback conversion :) for mega bucks though: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TIQU0mwxNp...2B1-776201.JPG Forgot to mention, it ate up maybe 1/3 qt of oil in 4 sessions, so 80 minutes of racing. In my last session on the long left sweeper I noticed my oil pressure would flicker as I got into the higher rpms exiting the turn. I was told to be careful on long lefts because they can oil starve. It was at the min line on the dipstick. So next time I have to bring oil with to top off between sessions, and I decided I'm going to do the oil pan baffles mod. |
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Do you have a catch can full of oil or is it burning oil?
|
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Anyone overfill a quart when tracking those? Reasonably common to do so on other makes. Not for oil consumption, but for oil starvation due to sloshing etc (no baffles).
|
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
I bet those bean plants were softer than tires and concrete. Going off is a learning experience for sure.
Oil pan baffles are definitely a good plan if there's a starvation risk and they are fairly available. |
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Well, it turns out I have the latest model oil pan (there were a couple revisions), and mine already has a bunch of baffles, I just need to keep it at the full line and there should be no problems.
I have figured out my winter plans. Going to convert from the standalone MBE ECU to a Ford ECU, should improve driveability, this is what the Rossions came with, I just need a couple parts and the Rossion harness for the conversion. Going to Ohio sometime next Spring to do the conversion over a weekend. Also going to upgrade the GT28R's to the newer billet GTX2860 compressor wheels, should allow for more power since the GT28's top out around 18psi/500whp. Also converting to E85 to max out the turbos and hoping for around 22psi and 550whp. I think I'll be the first Noble on E85, most of them have an aluminum tank, but I have an E85 safe fuel cell and all SS fuel lines so it should only require larger injectors, maybe swap out to my E85 filter as well. |
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Badass!!
|
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
550whp?!?!? That's going to be back to the future fast. Definitely want a ride in it.

Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Siiiick

Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Yeah buddy!

Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Oh, new diffuser installed too. I think it looks pretty sweet. Much better than some of the lotus ones that extend way back with huge fins.
Also installed an OMP Superquadro steering wheel, but I don't think I'm going to keep it. It's a bit smaller, but the bad part is the top is much shorter and blocks the tops of the gauges. I think I will probably get a Momo Mod 80 Evo in suede, which is very similar to the stock one, but slightly better grip and suede instead of leather. http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...ght_corner.jpg http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...eft_corner.jpg http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...fuser_side.jpg |
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Wow that is sweet! Aero is so hawt but so spensive.
|
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Agreed on aero being hawt but expensive. Fortunately the diffuser was cheap because I helped the company make the Noble prototype and organized the group buy.
Next aero mods are some vortex generators, higher wing mount, and smaller profile carbon mirrors. Totally different subject, it's super easy to get a kit car title in Iowa. I've heard many horror stories of NY and CA where you have to wait months for all these forms to be filed to get an OBDII exemption, smog exemption, etc. Next Thursday I have an appointment with a DOT inspector, and from what I heard they mainly just check that you have lights, seat belts, mirrors, etc, and then just want to talk about cars for awhile haha. Should have my Iowa plates in a few weeks, good bye sales tax money :( |
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Looks awesome!! Great news on the title too, hope that goes smoothly.
|
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Looking good! Bummer about the wheel.

Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Big plans for the winter. A guy who builds/tunes these cars in Ohio is selling his entire setup and doing an LS swap. I purchased everything but the motor/trans from him, including two BW EFR 6258 turbos (rated 44 lbs/min each), full 3" v-band exhaust, 60lb injectors, full wiring harness + ford ecu, etc. This is from his personal car, so I know everything is in great shape.
The turbos have way more power capability than the stock GT28R's, with slightly quicker spool, win-win. The standalone MBE ecu that came on the Noble doesn't have the best street manners, the Ford ecu conversion should help a lot in this regard. This is what the Rossion Q1 comes with (the now US-made equivalent of my car), so it's all plug-n-play for the ECU conversion. He is currently packaging it all up and sending it next week, I'll take a bunch of pics when I get everything, plus the install of course. Setup should be good for around 500whp on 16psi. Easily capable of over 650 with e85 and fuel upgrades if I ever decide to get crazy. |
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
very nice. so the ecu is already tuned for that set up so you dont have to do it?
|
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Exactly, ECU already has his tune on it, so it'll be 99% of the way there, may just need some minor tweaks after some logging.
I may start taking off some parts this weekend, only bad part is I'll have to leave the escort outside until I finish the project. Not enough room in the garage to store the rear clam plus all the parts. |
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
even better for you
|
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Pimpin! That will be awesome, will need ride this spring to compare!
|
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Def. going to want a ride.
That is an insane setup!! Can't wait to see this. Don't take it apart until Sunday! |
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Very cool on the ECU and turbos! I bet it's a blast to drive already and it will be even crazier now!
|
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Wow, should be stupid fast!
|
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Interesting...now I need MORE POWER too!

Holy crap, that kit is wild.

Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
So it begins. Worked about 3 hours on the car tonight, clam removal = 5 minutes, literally. Take out 2 r-clip cotter pins for the hinges, 2 more for the cables that stop the clam from falling too far back, unplug 1 harness connection for all the rear lights, and then just lift it off the car.
http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...clam_off_1.jpg http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...clam_off_2.jpg Started off by removing all the intercooler and intake piping, then the intercooler and fans, heat shields, etc. I was left with the exhaust and rear turbo: http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...rear_turbo.jpg Next I removed the rear turbo and all exhaust pieces except the front turbo downpipe. One of the five turbine housing to downpipe studs was a major PITA. Minimum 30 minutes of cursing at it, could barely fit a 1/4" drive socket on it, so I was turning it 1/12 of a turn, refitting socket on the nut, etc. Sucky. Fortunately the new turbos have a v-band discharge. The dust you can see on the diffuser was part of the crusty turbo blanket coming apart. http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...xhaust_out.jpg http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...piping_out.jpg Here is most of the stuff I took off tonight. I was really surprised how freely the wheels spin on the turbo, maybe it's the ball bearings vs journal bearings which I had on the Talon. No shaft play, and never smoked when I was driving the car, so hopefully I can sell them for decent money. http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da..._removed_1.jpg Also noticed that my exhaust manifolds are stainless steel, I did not expect that, I have no idea if they are stock parts, will have to ask on the forum. Neither the turbo-manifold or turbo-downpipe connections had gaskets which I thought was weird too, I'll be adding gaskets between the manifolds and turbos when I put in the new ones. http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...t_manifold.jpg Next steps for this weekend are removing the diffuser & undertray and putting the car on stands so I can get under the car. This will allow me to remove the front turbo and downpipe. Also need to remove the intake manifold, fuel rails, injectors, coils, spark plugs, etc. Last step will be removing the entire wiring harness and ECU from the car. Basically everything but the motor/trans/clutch is getting replaced. I'm meeting the guy in Illinois next Saturday to pick up all the new parts. |
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Hot. So. Much. Piping!!! :D
Brave pulling it apart before you have all the new stuff. If your stock turbos were ball bearing, they will spin very very freely--like when you shut the car off you may still be able to hear them spinning for up to a minute afterwards. |
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Made a lot more progress today. First took off the million screws for the diffuser and undertray. Then got to work on the front turbo, another huge PITA. But I got it all out, the downpipe for this one was wrapped.
http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...ront_turbo.jpg I got everything unplugged from the motor, took off the intake manifold, got the injectors out, etc. I think I found the ECU right on the passenger side of the firewall, so next step is taking that out with the wiring harness. http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...ng_harness.jpg On coil #1 I found a bunch of goop, so either there was water that got in there, or maybe an oil leak from the plug seal on the valve cover. Will have to investigate later. Also found a bunch of grime below the front valve cover near the cam sensor, so I might need a new gasket there too. |
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
good work for 2 days
|
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Tires so sticky they double as parts holders!
|
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
The tires are the new DSM valve cover (for purpose of holding stuff), they actually hold a lot of bolts and tools at once. I was using them as a temporary location while I took off a part. Once a step was complete, I put the bolts with that part somewhere in the garage.
Another thing I have added to the list is to fix the red bull can zip tied to the chassis (bottom left of last pic). The power steering reservoir doesn't have baffles, so if you're using sticky tires on the track, some will spill out on corners, so he did this make-shift mod to avoid spilling any on track (vacuum hose runs from reservoir cap to the can). I'll probably make something very similar, but just looks better. Someone makes a nice PS reservoir with baffles, but I think that's a little overkill for the 1-2oz that might spill out in a track day. |
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
wow awesome!!
|
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Car is back together. Boost controller is only set at 13psi right now, still made 422whp, and running in the 12.5:1 AFR range, so we shut it down early around 6k rpms. With more boost and some fuel, it should be pretty close to 500whp.
I'll get pics up next week. The Borg Warner's sound awesome spooling up, but it's weird not hearing a BOV when letting off the gas. |
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
yay, so you are coming on the cruise then? :)
|
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
12.5:1 is a little leaner than I'd like for such a long cruise. I'll drive it around town until I can get it dialed in better. I don't have the handheld device to add 10% fuel or whatever, I have to mail my ECU or I'll most likely take a weekend road trip to Ohio to get a dyno tune.
I will be riding with someone from the TX caravan on this cruise. |
Re: 2006 Noble M400 #141
Wtf 422whp?
Oh man that's gotta feel good. |
