This beast is so manly I'd just find some chick driving a VW and have her haul them for me.

Major issues today, the car had its first serious breakdown. Luckily, I found the solution at the local parts depot!

I was thinking about getting some of these anyways but this way it doesn't count as a mod--counts as maintenance! :)

wooot! Ive never tried the silverstars, but I seem to burn out a regular bulb every 6 months. How do you like them compared to regulars?

Halon 03-14-2014 10:08 AM

Re: TRUCK STUFF! (actually its just a passat)

I ran Silverstars in the old Green Dragon. The plug on the harness that plugs into the bulb couldn't handle the additional heat and ended up melting. Had to buy a new harness plug and go back to normal bulbs. Probably just shitty mitsu design, but maybe just a heads up to keep an eye on yours.

Re: TRUCK STUFF! (actually its just a passat)

We installed Silverstars in customer's cars at the shop if they requested them. They aren't white, they don't have a tint of blue. They are just a lighter shade of yellow than standard bulbs. And they seem to burn out faster since they burn a little hotter.

Hmm might as well just get an HID kit. I think my old kit on the m3 was around that price haha.

+1 , That has been my experience as well.

I ran Silverstars in my 1G and Evo IX for years with no issues, they were the best halogen bulb I could find. I was happy with them.

Yup, it says right on the box that they are not designed to last as long as 'normal' bulbs as they burn brighter and hotter. The light output is a noticeable difference.

Hah, the install looks like 1000x more work than I'm interested in for this car!

This is why I was willing to give them a chance. Yours seemed to last forever! I certainly didn't want to pay the extra-premium price at o'reily's but I did anyways just to avoid being caught with a light out & traffic stop.

Re: TRUCK STUFF! (actually its just a passat)

Looks like you already have projectors. Do they have a decent cutoff? If so, could prolly just rock a PNP kit, pretty simple to install.

A//// Guy 03-14-2014 04:55 PM

Re: TRUCK STUFF! (actually its just a passat)

Yea thats what i was thinking too, shouldnt be a big install, just have to get the bulbs inside the housing, wire them up and mount the ballasts.

Re: TRUCK STUFF! (actually its just a passat)

I've done a handful of the cheap Kensun HID 4300k kits from Amazon. 15 minute install and been good so far. A couple of the kits I did are running around in India(nephews cars) in their severe conditions also doing fine.

Re: TRUCK STUFF! (actually its just a passat)

Went garage hunting today and found not two but THREE tires up in the attic! One has a nail in it but is otherwise fine. Two are from beaterX, the alignment was borked the second summer I owned it and the fronts wore uneavenly to the point of being wrecked. The rears however, still tons of meat left on them!

The third is from when I rolled my evo8. The Rota P45F was unsalvagable and I decided to get a new rim and tire just to be sure. SO much meat on this tire, it's practically new except for the fact that it still has gravel/mud on it from the ditch :P

Cool car but proabably half of the reason I like this little VW so much is the price. Mine has 2/3 the miles of that bimmer and I paid half the price. :) Very nice car though!

Heh, think of it more like having a civic AND an evo (and another evo?) and then you're up the alley where I'm parked right now. That 535ix is friggin schweet though!

Just took this hog on a pretty epic trip. 2300 miles round trip!

Only the basics? Dropped these off with Thielen since he had some extra room in his car.
http://www.scheides.com/albums/passa...6406.sized.jpg

My brother and his (now) fiance flew in from Florida & North Carolina to Minneapolis and we headed up to Fergus Falls to pick up my dad.

http://www.scheides.com/albums/passa...6408.sized.jpg

Strapped on dad's rooftop carrier and filled with skis, snowboards, cookies, and more beer

http://www.scheides.com/albums/passa...6410.sized.jpg

Four people, all our ski stuff and a weeks worth of stuff, we were fully fully loaded but still averaged 25mpg teh whole way there and back. Ran misc 91 octane and the thing didn't skip a beat. Sixth gear on long uphill mountain climbs the car would do 85mph no problem, boost up to about 5psi and fall as we reached the top.

http://www.scheides.com/albums/passa...4_74.sized.jpg

Once we got there, the skiing was epic. Laps of untouched powder in the bowl, pole-deep powder tree skiing, and I don't think I went to bed before midnight any night...out drinking :D

The lowered suspension seemed to fine with the extra weight, we didn't bottom out too many times and made it through the deep deep ruts in the mountain parking lots. Roads were shyte through all of the hairiest parts of the trip but the snow tires did just dandy.

Changed the oil when I got home for the second time nice and easy on the TSI engine. Love it. 5800 miles on this oil change and either it burned 1/5 of a quart or I didn't fill it to tippity-top max last time I filled it. Either way I'm happy!

Seats were comfy and enough to take care of our bashed bodies all the way home. I'm super happy with another round of TRUCK STUFF!

Panties be droppin! I put the wheels on, yeow! The car looks great. They're almost *too* flashy...then again they are super clean and the car is just meh kinda dirty so I guess it needs to even out a bit.

Fitment is good with the 245/40-18 sumi tires on it but today I had 3 guys in the car (counting myself) and some light gear in the back and it was rubbing on the inside wheel well on heavier bumps. Sigh. Sucks. Not sure what to do about that....I did notice when I got home the tire pressure was at like 45, LOL....lowered to 35, maybe that will help. We'll see.

For now, yee haw love it!
