Now I just gotta pay attention to everything you do lol.

I've decided to give the big F-you to my VF37 and go bigger right away. If I can afford it, I'll go FP Black (They call it the 82HTA for Subaru's for some reason). I'm also considering a few PTE units. The shortblock is begging to be built, and I'm already planning on GSC S2's. So, I feel it would be a waste of engine not to. Tentatively, I'm thinking 98mm 8.5:1 JE's, and possibly Manley T/T rods. Decisions, decisions.. |
Re: Project Slowbaru
dont cheap out on rods, manley t/t's are good for just about anything you can throw at them and priced fairly well, and as for pistons i would do cp pistons, you mind as well go rotated turbo setup too =) there are better options for a fp black sized turbo if you go rotated, and it makes working on the car SOOOOOOO much easier!!
P.S. i'll just leave this right here =) http://mnsubaru.com/threads/fs-ft-rotated-kit.42388/ i bet he would trade you with some cash on top |

Oh we definitely gonna race! |
Re: Project Slowbaru
with going to a 6262, your gonna need a 6speed =) a 5speed wont hold that kinda power for long!

Re: Project Slowbaru

I'll probably just upgrade to an '08+ 5-Speed. Those seem to hold higher power better than the older ones. |
Re: Project Slowbaru
Soooo I can get in on this race too right? ;-)
Looking good! |

With the tires that are on my car right now you probably won't need any car lengths lol

Re: Project Slowbaru
You bastard!
If I had $3K sitting around I'd hop on it, dry hump it, and make it my bitch. |
Re: Project Slowbaru
I got a little work done on the Slowbaru today. I got all of the interior wiring out of the WRX, and only have to pull the front harness with the headlight wiring out.
Yesterday I picked up my slightly larger turbo. It's a Turbo Lab 20g. It has no shaft play and has the wastegate flapper welded shut, so I can use the EWG up-pipe I'm getting from Ryan. It only has to get me through this season! http://i1156.photobucket.com/albums/...ning/TL20g.jpg Today I went to pick some parts up from Phill @ Grimmspeed, and ended up buying a never used protoype Grimmspeed 3" catless downpipe. The only thing I will have to do is change the 2-bolt flange to a 3" v-band and take a few inch section out to get the length right. http://i1156.photobucket.com/albums/...Sdownpipe2.jpg http://i1156.photobucket.com/albums/...GSdownpipe.jpg http://i1156.photobucket.com/albums/...Sdownpipe3.jpg I ALSO, got my hands on a true JDM Legacy rear window, which includes a rear wiper. Since I have wiring from a wagon, the steering column and controls are all ready for me to add it on. Evidently these are extremely rare and people pay upwards of $350 for them. It'll look like this. http://jdmvip.com/jdmcarpictures/199...-Rims/rear.jpg I'll have my heads back from the machine shop by next weekend and at that point will be able to get the motor back in the car. Ryan is holding the rest of my FMIC piping and will only have to switch BOV flanges for my Tial. I ran in to a set of FiveO Motorsports 2000cc top feed injectors and will be sending them to Raven Works for cleaning and testing. I'm also almost done piecing together my top feed rails, -an fittings and braided hose, and will be picking up Grimmspeed 8mm phenolic intake manifold spacers as well. I'll probably get a DeatschWerks DW300 fuel pump to back everything up. The last big purchase I have to make is my Accessport unit, but I think I've gotten the worst of it bought already! I'm getting antsy! |
Re: Project Slowbaru
Sounds like it's getting close

Re: Project Slowbaru
Just an FYI I think there is a Walbro 255 in there. After the pump went out for the 2nd time Im pretty sure I swapped one in... Sad that I dont remember.
The car is looking really good! Cant wait to see it up and running again |
Re: Project Slowbaru
Also, last I talked to Shane he said a modded 255 flows more then a DW300.

Well shit, since I have two 255's now, I'll definitely skip the DW300. |

Why the Accessport?

Re: Project Slowbaru
I understand the speed density part, but the map switching part is the lamest excuse ever to blow 600 bucks on an AP when you can do it for like $6 yourself, or free by using the tps map switch.

Other than Opensource and AP there really aren't any other reasonably priced programs. Haltech Pro is right around $1,900 and I feel is WAY overkill. I'll have the ability to make all the power I want on the AP and for the price, I can't justify using anything else. |
Re: Project Slowbaru
Really no need to use anything else if you're using the WRX ECU. People have been making huge power for years using opensource.

Shane has never done SD with opensource on a Subaru. And unlike AP, OS doesn't feature live data logging, which makes Shane's life harder (Remember, he is my boss). He is more familiar tuning SD with an Accessport, and since he'll be tuning my car it makes sense for me to run it. |
Re: Project Slowbaru
What??? You're not going to nuke&fuji for a tune!?!? Lol

 I've had people tell me to get tuned by them, even while wearing my DB shirt. It's like, uhhhh really guy? Look at what my shirt says. |
Re: Project Slowbaru
Haha! Making good progress! It will be nice to see this thing up and running!
|
Re: Project Slowbaru
Nuke is a good shit, but no reason to go anywhere than Shane since you work for him. haha

I'm REALLY getting the itch to finish this thing! Once I get my heads back at least I can get the engine assembled and all the engine wiring hooked up. I found an amazing deal on a full WRX 5-Speed swap, but I should be able to get it all swapped over with a full day of work. |
Re: Project Slowbaru

Most of our more modified Subaru customers have no trouble affording an Accessport and would rather have a quick and easy way to read codes and switch tunes instead of dealing with the opensource stuff. I prefer the Accessport since it offers realtime tuning and it's all contained in 1 program. When I tune opensource on the Subarus, I use 4-5 programs and every change requires turning the car off and doing a reflash, which can make SD tuning take a while. It's probably 50/50 for opensource versus Acessport tuning on the Subaru's I do, versus 95% opensource on the Evos. It's funny how few people use opensource on the DSMs. But DSMLink is very good and it's SD implementation is extremely good (better than any opensource and better than the SD on the AEM EMS), except it's VERY slow to update. |
Re: Project Slowbaru
Do you think there will be a difference in the quality of driveability between opensource and AP with the 2000cc injectors I'm planning on using?
|
Re: Project Slowbaru
This morning I picked up a WRX transmission, driveshaft, rear end and subframe assembly from Andy at Grimmspeed. I can now convert my clutch to hydraulic, make use of the entire WRX pedal box, and can use any clutch and short shifter for a 5-speed WRX.
http://i1156.photobucket.com/albums/...nsmission2.jpg I'm unsure of what driveshaft I'll have to use, but I'll be dropping that tomorrow. I haven't taken a look at the rear until now. It's not too bad, but the rust makes it look like shit. Once I get it taken apart, I'll go through, sand out as much rust as possible and paint it black. I also plan to disassemble the WRX subframe, replace all the hardware, and clean up the rusty parts as well. [I want to get rid of those stupid plastic end links too.] http://i1156.photobucket.com/albums/...ySubframe1.jpg http://i1156.photobucket.com/albums/...ySubframe2.jpg Decided to get the front mount installed as well. The existing bumper beam holes almost lined up. I could have probably made it work, but one of the bolts would have been crooked. Wasn't really feeling that. Before http://i1156.photobucket.com/albums/...g/NoBumper.jpg Holes drilled, checked for alignment. http://i1156.photobucket.com/albums/...MICBracket.jpg Installed with fresh hardware http://i1156.photobucket.com/albums/...ICBracket2.jpg Done! http://i1156.photobucket.com/albums/...Installed1.jpg Here's a shot from inside the engine bay. http://i1156.photobucket.com/albums/...Installed2.jpg Lines up nicely with the bumper cover support http://i1156.photobucket.com/albums/...Installed4.jpg And one more. http://i1156.photobucket.com/albums/...Installed3.jpg I'm really happy how it turned out. I should have plenty of clearance for piping, and I got it pretty much dead center without having to modify the intercooler bracket at all. |
